I just realised that as i came to the discussion late i completely ignored the thread title.

The burning of Orange halls is despicable and to be condemned without reservation. In itself it is a factor in promoting sectarianism and bitterness.

The SF guy falling off the roof of the OO hall, i nearly cried laughing when i heard this, u couldn't make it up!! What an arse.

DB in my previous post I feel i did make the distinction between Band parades and OO parades, i do understand the difference. For me the major problem is the band parades, the vast majority of OO parades as you say are church related and there are very few issues with most of them.

As regards the practicalities that is a different matter, i realise the significant difficulties in implementing any of these ideas. What i am saying is that for society here to normalise [and this is regardless of any constitutional situation] i think these issues need to be addressed.

Anyway i was just giving a general outline, i'll leave it up to the rest of you to get it sorted. I'll check back on the progress made on Monday week. I expect to see results!!!

What would you suggest should happen to confront it?

Well for instances all bonfires should be banned immediately.

All flag flying in public areas should be regulated to stop the practice of intimidatory flags being hoisted on every pole, lamp post etc. These regulations to be strictly enforced.

Band parades should be restricted in their numbers held. They should also be strictly regulated to ensure that paramilitary bands and associated displays are banned.

OO parades should be restricted in their number and extent. [not interfering with church related parades.]

The practice of closing entire towns off for hours at a time on a weekend night  a couple of times per month should be stopped forthwith [or at least restricted in its extent and frequency.]

In my view the OO has been the single most negative influence in NI. Their influence, though on the wane at the moment thankfully, is pervasive and malignant.

They have established and fostered sectarianism. Their laughable annual parade charade involving the attendant 'bands' with their thinly disguised paramilitary links is an excuse to renew their blatant anti-catholicism and hatred of all things other than their own hatred. This is treated as normal in this society and is laughably accepted as culture. It's not culture, it's sectarianism.

That should've been Indiana i misquoted in my previous post.

Glad to see this, a fair sentence. Some of the reaction here [even from some Derry posters i might add] is obviously more a result of the hyperbole on TV rather than what actually happened.  GNevin's  'for God's sake would somebody please think of the children' shows just how far some people have lost the run of themselves.

If this is the worst thing thing, or one of the worst things, you've ever seen on a football pitch you obviously haven't played or indeed watched much football.

This is definitely true, Brian Mullan's ban [the length of it] is being appealed. I cannot quote a 'news' source for this but it is definitely true.

I agree that this should be appealed as 8 weeks is too long given the length of bans for another similar recent offence.
