Haven't seen any of the Derry Girls yet and going by this thread its getting mixed views.  Mcaleer is probably the driest comedian around hard to see how he would be hilarious?

Adolescent girls engaging in adolescent talk in a strange accent.About as funny as a fart in a space suit

Or most of your "musings" on here.

For a fella that doesn't like it Tony you know plenty about it. When it's on, the age of the girls in real life etc.

Liking it is ok, we wont(can't) think any less of you.

Did you like Moone Boy by the way?

This is the latest in the long line of pish (Father Ted,Mrs Brown's Boys etc) considered funny across the water, not for any genuine comic content, but simply because it depicts the Oirish as fecking mad eejits. This in turn seems to engender some native pride at home and misplaced notion that this has to be comic genius as it makes the Brits laugh.

Did you ever watch, Boys from the blackstuff and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, the Liver birds and other regional shows? The above shows you have mention are just that, local shows that other parts of the country and within that regional area like... to me you are they type thats embarrassed about being where you are from, a snob would define you..

And what if it makes us laugh? What if we see bits that we recognise/can relate to and can see the humour in? What if we see the bits that remind us purely of Derry, or people we know from there, in a way that's light hearted and something we can have a laugh at?

Comic content is subjective. Just because you don't find it funny doesn't mean people from here don't. It's an enjoyable, easy watch that has made me laugh out loud in every episode so far. It's doing the job that it's supposed to do. If you don't like it then there's plenty of other things you can watch instead.

Enjoyed it again this week , but then a comedy that  offends Tony was always going to make me chuckle .

Boys from the Blackstuff and Auf Wiedersen were both top drawer dramas with great social and political undertones, and the comic bits were highly intelligent and relevant as well.
