Derry / Re: Derry Club Football & Hurling

Not sure how this all fits but north Derry vocational schools players seems to be ignored largely, this may have changed recently. But I remember St Mary's Limavady playing and wining county championships every year under Micky Moran and those lads never got a look in for development squads, never mind minor squads. Whereas counterparts from the big clubs got the call up, I see the reasoning on both side. If they did make the cut it was generally as men to go in an break ball etc. North Derry players I suspect have a higher drop out rate, plenty of things at play here but ultimately playing Junior or bottom intermediate football is quite the commitment at times and you're never going to put on a county jersey.

There should be acceptance that the Derry Senior set up is basically 100% South Derry, its the elephant in the room.

The implementation of Kerry style model e.g. David Clifford aka East Kerry for North Derry could be something to consider. It may sound ridiculous but they basically need an All-Star North Derry entered into the Senior championship, how would they do, hard to know? But it may give confidence to North Derry, additional support into the club game, something for players to aspire to and show there skills against the best. Or they just continue to ignore the Elephant.

This gave me 2001 Derry Vs Galway vibes and flashbacks. Unbelievable performance from the team, a game of fine margins that went against us whether it was the goal chances, woodwork or referee. When McGrogan went off we where always going to be in trouble coming into the last quarter we had to go into a very very thin bench too early. There for the taking this time but we will be back at the altar.

The Chrissy and Clifford matchup will decide an All Star  ;D

I see tickets up tomorrow, probably best waiting on this on into the week.

McFaul was excellent coming from deep and picking up ball. Glass superb defensively.

They sat too deep at times. Grinded out a result.

In the last two matches Derry have been turned over against Clare and Cork too easily at times. Kerry where excellent at turning over Tyrone as they pressed so a cause for concern, outside the obvious.

Would there be a chance of getting an exception for the Armagh game to be a standalone fixture in HQ?

I'm seriously worried that PSNI / Garda will have to setup escorts to ensure the game starts on time. The scale of traffic we're talking about here is gargantuan

I've never seen anything like the tail back coming down the road for the Armagh Galway match on the Motorway (Was coming back from the Derry Clare match the next day). Bus upon bus load from Armagh stuck at the Toll for miles.

Mighty support and mighty supporters.

Very below average Derry performance. A number of errors and turnovers and lacked a cutting edge at times.
Glass was excellent, he took a woeful challenge and hope he recovers.
McKaigues guidance was missed in the defence.
McFaul was better playing ball in than been stuck in the corner.
Toner for me should start, his engine was missed

On Gough. I've no complaints whatsoever. Did I agree with every decision? No. But I'm sure Derry ones would say the same

The trip on McGuigan was a black card for me. Was right in front of me.

A tough match to referee. Could only consider his performance if I where neutral  ;D

What a battle! Derry got over the line but the team sat too deep at times, similar to the first half of the Dublin game in Celtic Park and when Armagh pressed them high up the pitch they didnt let the  ball into the space behind and struggled to make ground. The team seemed to lack the high intensity turn of pace which could even be possibly noted during there warm up drill with the fumbles. Lucky to get out of Clones with the W. Both team lift all on the pitch. Commiserations to the Armagh team, a bit of composure and they had it.
