I met him at the World Amateurs in the Odessey about 20001, I think.
Seems a good guy, very friendly and down to earth. Wierd accent tho, mix of east Belfast and USA.

He was a better 'baxer', than he is a dancer. Fair play to him though.

Hey! Despite all the sniping probably in the top three of Irish boxers of all time! Fair play to him.

I think an Appreciation Thread would also have to pay significant homage to Cheryl (i think thats her name) . She got rid of the original management team and single handedly  is responsible for taking him to the very top.

Remarkable woman.

The American twang is probably because he lives in Las Vegas.

Why would he do that? I've never heard him deny his Irishness. He won an Olympic silver medal for Ireland. What did you do?

He also carried the flag at the opening ceremony if memory serves right

QuoteEven though he was a Protestant from the notorious Shankill area of Belfast, McCullough had no reservations about carrying the Irish Tricolour when representing Ireland at the 1988 Olympics.

"I was fighting for Ireland first and foremost," says the silver medalist from the 1992 Games. "And the way I saw it was 'if I fight under the flag I should be happy to carry it.'  If I was to say 'no' what kind of coverage would I have gotten? I am a sportsman, not a politician."

Yes, that was my point. I could easily explain the USA bit but was at a loss as to east Belfast.
