theres a thread on this in the non gaa section as well. delighted to see him win it although derval or p harrington would have also been deserving winners in my book. gerry kiernans comment that only achievements from abroad count for him was off the wall. henry is a class act.....

pats first job is to have a chat with mick mccarthy and try to change his mind. delighted sean geaney (just lost his father in law, a great football man - john (walla) oconnor two weeks ago) will be involved, did a good job with the minors....

the gaa said today that while there will be no tour at junior or senior level to austrialia in 2007 a consultation process will begin outlining what is needed if the series is to continue and when this process is finished the final document will be presented to the afl for their view......

paddy collins is the latest county board official to launch into a mindless rant about international rules. doesn't really matter what the players think they should have no say in it. not content with that he then takes a swipe at all Australian sport saying "they take great pride in their various sporting success around the world but show a blantant disregard for even the most basic of sporting principles"  really? someone should call the Austrialian ambassador, the gaa would be better off without muppets like him....

GAA Discussion / Stadium Planning
December 07, 2006, 01:39:22 PM
i see clones is in line for a 30m upgrade following hot on the heels of westmeath and kildares stadium plans. surely its time for some sort of central stadium planning body in the gaa. what this country needs is one centrally located stadium with a roof that can seat 25,000 and finally weather proof our games. how about the athlone arena, a central enough location where every sunday a double header top league games can be played. giving up all these town center locations for stadiums that will be empty for 99% of the time may be a bad idea in the longterm... what do others think?

the gpa and the afl players association today came out in favour of the ir series. they said that the series has the overwhelming support of both codes players and that the refereeing of the series is an area that needs attention. just looking at the start of the ashes series in cricket it would be an awful shame if the gaa (ie nicky) were to let our own series go down the tube....

american football with all its money was unable to spread its reach. what make the gaa (or afl for that matter) think they can do it? the fact is gaa will only ever exist in ireland and theirs nothing wrong with that. it would be great however if the international rules could survive as it the ONLY meaningfull (ie pull a crowd over 2000) international outlet available imo...

I think that Counties should only be allowed to change their shirt after they have won the All Ireland or a provencial title (hurling or football). That way you reward success on the field with commercial success. Fermanagh would have to play in skins but I still think it would be a fair system.

in soccer i'm pretty sure when a team wins a wc they get to put a star on their jerseys. why not something like that in the gaa (small ones for kerry!). on another level there is to much going on in most gaa jerseys and dont think any really look great bar the beautiful green and gold......

have to say i was hoping crokes would do it this year. anyone who saw (crowd was about 10,000) bryan sheehan last point will never forget it, maurice himself would be proud of it. gouch had a chance to square it up but missed in the end. the whole day was saddened for me with the news of Liam Higgins passing, a well of knowledge of kerry football who has left a lasting legacy especially with all those he taught. RIP

PS the other Liam Higgins holds the course record for waterville gc if i remember right and david is currently in q school for the european tour...
