Maybe we should try and win it this year  :D

Connacht Council have conceded defeat in their bid to stage the FBD League 'away' final in New York.

Provincial secretary John Prenty informed the Irish Daily Star that they had no choice but to scrap the game as it was costing in the region of €50,000 per annum.

Leitrim (2013) and Mayo (2012) both refused to fulfil the fixture with Mayo fined €10,000.

This year's winners Leitrim - who travelled to the 'Big Apple' for a Connacht championship clash in May - escaped punishment because they had given the Connacht Council plenty of notice of their decision not to travel.

Some crowd of Offeeshuls travelling in May I suspect  ::)

Well Sligo gaa posted on Facebook the dates and i asked the question why saturday, didn't get a response, so i'll presume its sunday as Connacht gaa should be right, and sundays will get better crowds at those times, glad its sundays.

The Connacht GAA site got the time of the Brigids-Tourlestrane game wrong and never fixed it so I wouldn't be so sure.

Added venues.

Connacht GAA are losing out on my money ;D. If they played a game in a North Mayo venue, they'd have an extra bit of cash. Not surprising though, they ignored my ramblings and ravings on here about it! :D

Did  you hear the word about the new gym in Roscommon for our players? Soon we'll be able to throw over those Mayo hoors like the invasive species of Rhubarb that they are.

Not necessarily FBD but given Mayo's previous with NY..

QuoteMayo to receive €65k for Big Apple trip
19 December 2013
Mayo will get funding of €65,000 for their 2014 Connacht championship clash with New York.

The money will come from a combination of Connacht Council and the New York GAA Board, while Mayo may also have to raid their own coffers to fund some of the trip. (The €65k is based on a travelling party of 41 and Mayo could opt to bring up to 30 players plus up to 20 backroom members.)

Reacting to news that Leitrim's cross-Atlantic trip in 2013 had cost them over €94,000, Connacht Council secretary John Prenty was of the opinion that too many people were brought:

"They think they're going on their holidays and they have to bring Paddy and Mick and Jack," he told The Mayo News.

"If they were going to play the Connacht championship in Hyde Park, they'd bring 40 fellas, but they bring 60 to New York.

"If it's costing them that much, it's their own fault. We calculated that the official party can be brought for €65,000. Anybody above that, that's not our problem."

Ah sure, they needed the money.

In fairness it's the right thing to do but why did it take the Kings of Connacht™ going over before this was offered?
