The Lord Mayor of Dublin was on BBC Radio Ulster's Talkback on lunchtime and took pelters from Cllr Mannix Flynn who inferred this was SF waging a personal vendetta against Geldoff. What's the story there? This was more venomous than a DUP V SF spat?

Does Belgium not have a bigger claim on /responsibility for Geldoff than Ireland?

He did at least do a decent job at the Self Aid Concert in 1986 deputising for the then recently deceased Phil Lynott,as lead singer of Thin Lizzy during their set.

Same everywhere.Ordinary people don't matter as far as the political elite are concerned. The Grenfell tower victims won't get justice either from the UK Govt.

My vivid memory up here about Stardust was Ian Paisley openly expressing heartfelt sympathy to the families.

What's wrong with saying RIP for Amy Winehouse? Wasn't she on the RIP most of the time anyway?

Life is full of things one doesn't like. There are letters still published in the press complaining about the former Belfast City Airport being named after the town drunk (which I certainly don't like).A retired Cardinal has been shamefully savaged incessantly on this Board (and just wait for the posts on this thread when he finally passes on) which I found nauseating  but accepted as free speech. Why can't everyone have this attitude, don't like it or appreciate the benign humour just skip on to the next post.

No.In all seriousness this thread shows the absolute hypocrisy running through many aspects of this board.I use my formidable wit to lightheartedly link the news of celebrity deaths to aspects of their lives. This is not mocking the death itself.

However it now transpires that joking about death (in a way which is,unlike me, mocking the death) or even glorifying in the death is totally acceptable according to your perception of the deceased (e g Margaret Thatcher),or if you happen to know the deceased personally (🙄).

So it is ok to mock the dead and far worse, glorify their deaths as long as you perceive them to be Thatcherlike.Max Clifford was a sexual predator who spun horrific stories and people? Is it not okay to mock his death then? In short is mocking death (which I stress I don't do) right or wrong or does it depend on your perception of the deceased

Mixed messages here. Lambasted for light hearted humour drawing on an important part of a celebrity's life, but it is ok to glorify the deaths of the likes of Margaret Thatcher,or make a joke about a person if they were known to you? Does not make sense to me.

Was Denis Law saying he was surprised George Best turned up at his own funeral offensive?.I'm sure Max will be happy to be remembered as the King of Spin or Keith Chegwin glad that his own long career is remembered  .

World of difference between expressing joy at someone's demise.

Denis Law was his mate, you didnt know any of the celebs you have made jokes about, nor do you make jokes about them when they are alive, wait till they are dead and then you have fun.

Oh right so it's okay to joke about your mates' deaths? 😮😮.

Will someone point out where I have mocked anyone's death (and that by the way includes political hate figures)? The sort of humorous linkages I make about celebrity deaths are I think, things you might hear at their wake (if they were ordinary people),and might even give them a laugh themselves.I do not wish or take any pleasure regarding the death of any human, famous or not.
