Very poor from Derry, sending off aside. So flat.
First half us where the game was lost, too many dropped short.

Too many of derrys star players were nowhere to be seen, glass didn't seem interested.

We were chasing the game, lachlan Murray just scored 3 I think, made a score saving tackle and Harte takes him off. Can't see the logic in that.

Galway were good. Should rightly leapfrog derry in the AI rankings and must be in that top 3 tier now.

Didn't listen to the commentary after the game but there can be no defending mckinless.
However,  I did think in general galway got their frees easier than us.

Such a stupid thing for mckinless to do. I didn't quite catch it in real time, but red for sure.

Derry really struggling.
Still look lethargic.
Must be 4 or 5 kicked short....that's a team short in confidence.

Really up against it now, 2 down, man down, so many injuries.

Quote from: imtommygunn on May 15, 2024, 08:16:30 PMIt seems to be having a big impact on marketing and things like writing contracts. Software wise it can write code for you but that's based on the bank of data you have so new stuff not as much but I am sure that will improve.

It can give you garbage but there is a real skill to getting what you want out of it too.

In the software space we've used AI to help modernise code, taking something like cobol and writing an equivalent. We had some good results out of it but it's not perfect. It does generally get the gist of what existing code is doing but you are right, all depends on the learned information.

Also seen some really good use cases on predictive maintenance on equipment or vehicles like trucks and cranes. Certainly can provide real efficiencies there.

There is some really cool stuff, but a lot of what you here about is generative AI based which isn't as exciting imo.

Where its really cool is when it's able to tell you something you would not have worked out without ai.

Quote from: toby47 on May 17, 2024, 09:23:07 AMPanel named - obviously a few named won't be playing.

Do we know who is in the panel that hasn't been named that will be coming onto the bench?
Whats the story there?
Niall Loughlin not named on panel for one id say

He's out

What's the story there?

Injured - got an opp

Bench looking very light now, betwen those lads leaving the panel and few injuries im nervous for the rest of the season.

No mcgrogan, murphy, loughlin.
Jack cassidy, c mcguckian, m downey left, who else left? Mccarron & mcwilliams earlier in season

Realistically, of the guys that left I don't think any were going to get game time in championship - so you couldn't blame them for going back to clubs to get football.

McGrogan out for the year is a huge loss.
No idea on the length of time Nial O and Murphy will be out - but we really need both available.
If we pick up any more serious injuries, we'll really struggle.

Quote from: Keyser soze on May 15, 2024, 01:53:39 PMNo version of Derry has ever beaten Galway in championship, you can be sure that will be a factor on saturday.

Janey, even Armagh has beaten Galway.

Derry wans trying their hand at the cute hoorism here? Sure Derry were in the big three talk with Dublin and Kerry not just a few weeks ago.

Conversation of the big three talk will be back on should Derry win this weekend.  A win will put them in the box seat to top the group and then perhaps talking on a Mayo,Tyrone or Monaghan in the last eight tie that they'll be expected to win.  Should Dublin play Kerry in one semi final you could be looking at All Ireland final spot for Derry yet.

If we beat Galway with a depleted side undoubtedly those conversations will happen in the media.
But if we get beaten in the manner we did against Donegal - regardless of team on the field, the talk will be of the wheels coming off in the media.
Fine lines between being top 3 and an also ran in the media sphere.
I'd love to win, but if we lose I'm more interested in a good performance as 2 bad ones in a row will do nothing for confidence.

Definately not in my opinion.
Top 3 talk was mostly coming from outside Derry, whereas the rest of us realists were/are hopeful rather than expectant. Been around Derry too long to set the bar of expectation too high.
After the Donegal defeat, and the manner of that defeat, confidence has taken a hit. Now with an abundance of injuries to key players and the fact we are away to Galway - its a case of travelling in hope rather than expectation I feel.

Quote from: gallsman on May 15, 2024, 10:44:49 AMHad a look around but couldn't find a specific topic on this. The pace of change is absolutely absurd. Chat-GPT 4o announced this week and then Google come out with this. Terrifying/fascinating.

https://x.com/GoogleDeepMind/status/1790433540548558853

What if anything is anyone using these for? thinking more in the work setting

We use them to help collate information for tenders - so for example, we can ask our AI where we have previously done x, y and z and it will give us a written response with direct links to previous bids or case studies. It definately saves a lot of time.

We also have a private ChatGPT we use in writing tenders. We'd use it to reword reducing word count, as an example.

In both cases, they only give you a starter for 10. Wouldn't, and shouldn't, just copy and paste the output as fact. It certainly needs sanitised and reviewed for use as sometimes it comes back with nonsense. In general though, it saves a lot of time in writing bid documents.

Quote from: Silver hill on May 14, 2024, 11:09:13 PMI hope I'm wrong but hearing that we've a long line of injured players at the minute including Rodgers, Conor Doc, and mcevoy. Big blow if that is correct. Will need everyone to win in Galway.

Been hearing similar plus another one.
Hadn't hear about Conor though.

Quote from: seanyb on May 14, 2024, 02:08:09 PMAll very quiet on the build up to Saturday. Have we a clean bill of health? Murphy and McKinless fit? Not sure what to expect to be honest, let's hope we get the 2 pts and get back on the wagon again

Derry camp have been very quiet since the donegal game.
McKinless is a must at the best of times, but now we are without mcgrogan it add even more pressure on that half back line.
Galway with Comer back are a different proposition and will be high on confidence after winning provincial honours. But, that might help us. Could be difficult for them to re-focus so quickly after winning a final.

For Derry, we really need to up our game after the Donegal match to be in with a shout. Galway are our bogey team and we're away - a huge ask.

I

Agree with all that..I wouldn't be too confident on McKaigue picking up Comer, surely McEvoy goes to no3 and McKinless straight to 6?

I had hoped that would be the setup when mckinless returned to fitness but with McGrogan out who would we bring into the hb line?
Gilmore is more of a sub than a starter at this stage I feel.
McKaigue is way past it imo, but we might not have another option in this position.

Thought I'd kept it at an acceptable level by not detailing what I'd heard - but happy to remove if others feel that's over the line.

Quote from: bennydorano on May 14, 2024, 09:36:35 AMA point I've made about GAAGO a few times is that, to me, it 100% seems like a staging post on the route to semi-pro GAA. Once it gets really established costs will further recede and profits increase. I've no doubt Sean K looks at GAA financial figures throough his previous GPA head - how long before we hear 'GAAGO made €Xm this year and the players who are the product get nothing'  only a matter of time imo.

How is that different than 'the GAA got €Xm from Sky/RTE/TG4 this year...'

I don't necessarily understand the point here (not specifically yours Benny), is it that all games should be available free to air all the time? Or just all the good games? Who should pay for this? Should funds be diverted from capital projects so that people can sit at home with a bowl of crisp and crack open a beer to watch the games?

And Sean Cavanagh has just been completely embarrassed with his hyperbolic statement being called out, I teel you what, based on his handle on numbers I wouldn't be wanting to drop a set of company accounts in to him.

100%.
He's trying to be controversial and failing miserably.
Not a good pundit, doesn't offer any insight and does regularly have digs at people. A poor man's Joe Brolly.

Quote from: lurganblue on May 13, 2024, 08:46:16 AMNot the group Armagh would have wanted to be in of course. It looks like it will be very tough. Westmeath probably should have caught us at this stage last year and they almost caught Tyrone too. That certainly isnt an easy game.

Going to Celtic Park is always difficult for any team.

I dont expect there to be a big margin between the teams in any of the games and so the final standings could well be up in the air. Topping the pile would be amazing.  If not, then getting 2nd and securing that home advantage is essential.

I'd agree. Winning the group is vital.
Galway definitely favourites with the 3 forwards all back and they've have had another 2 weeks training banked

The bookies don't share your view. Derry are 4/5 for next week's game and Galway 11/8.

Ahh naw! Hope the bookies aren't wrong this time

Galway are our bogey team and will be on a high after winning the provincial title.
Derry bound to be rattled and a little bit nervy after the Donegal thumping.
Wouldn't surprise me if we got beat - 50/50 game at best especially as we are away.

Hard to guage this group now.
Will Galway push on now they have some key players back?
Will Derry improve after the tanking by Donegal or fall apart?
Will Armagh be able to recover from the heartbreak of losing another final to another penalty shoot out?
Will Westmeath be rubbing their hands in anticipation of being all but written off by most.

There's no easy games in this group that's for sure.
