Sad day...
Rip big tom ..
Been to a good few dances but I never got to see him in action.

Myself and an even bigger cynic went to see him in concert in mebbe 1987 or 1988 in my local town in Longford. We called it a study as we would rather eat rusty nails than listen to Country and Irish.

I tell ya. He put in a good show. Sent them home swheatin. Nayther of us got the shift that night as we were too busy propping up the bar looking at the lads with the velvet jackets but I could see why he was popular. Music is music after all and the place was heaving so that was good enough for me.

The RoI dumped all titles and nobility when it switched from GB management. Instead it has its own legends and Big Tom would be one of them.

Country is also very popular in the Gaeltacht.

Dúirt Daniel O'Donnell le RTÉ ar maidin go raibh aithne agus clú air mar "Rí an Cheoil Tíre" agus gur iomaí ceoltóir óg ar thug sé spreagadh agus comhairle dóibh.

Is this kind of music a catholic only thing up the north? Or is it cross- curricular?

Mid and North-West Radio have a lot to answer for!

Not a massive fan of country music but he was well liked in these parts so it's sad to hear of his passing. RIP.

Hereiam

RIP Big Tom. The ole pair are big fans of his and were shocked at the news of his death.

If you turned the radio when MidWest was on you'd get eaten alive when I was growing up. My brother used to do it to drive the parents mad.....he'd turn off the Angelus to.

While not a fan of Country music myself....Michael Commins has a great show on Wednesday and Sunday nights. People call in from all over the world

Exactly. Well? Do they? Do the protestants flock to Hugo Duncan, Philomena etc. as well? I dunno? But I am serious about this?

Read earlier that she refused any more medical intervention. In her 90s.
