What is going on down south at dublin airport in particular? They seem to be checking on people leaving the country and anyone who is on Covid payments is getting it stopped? I was reading about a musician who was going to visit his girlfriend and various other cases.

Yip, Govt reckon if you need the covid payment then you shouldn't be able to afford travel/holiday. The more concerning part is the information that is being shared btw somebody and the state.

Yeah I don't like the sound of it. Some boy being told it's immigration then all his payments are cut.

They're only doing it as punishment for daring to disobey their idiotic "don't go on holiday" decrees. They're a thundering disgrace.

But is the Covid payment to help ensure people have enough money to put food on the table, to pay their bills, to look after their children and other essentials?

I wouldn't have thought it's to pay for people to go on holidays abroad.

No, it's to maintain a basic income for people out of work because of the lockdown and associated scare. Note that some part time workers have from the outset been collecting a lot more from it than they were previously earning in work. There is no requirement to spend it on food etc.

A lot of people would have already booked and paid for the holidays before they were put on the PUP so there should be no reason to stop them going on what they had already paid for.

I think the worst part of it is that they changed the criteria to say people have to be actively looking for work to be eligible for it.  A lot of bar staff are on it because the pubs haven't been allowed to reopen, so are they supposed to look for other work when they technically still have a job they are waiting to go back to?

If you go somewhere and then require 14 days quarantine then you are by your own actions rendering yourself unavailable for work. Since they said they would not pay public staff for the quarantine (unless they had holidays) you would also need to have the same rule for people doing nothing as those paying them in the welfare office.
