Feckin brill.................. haven't seen those 89 goals in years ... also that Dessie Donnelly goal in 93? ? was a cracker.. Still feel tha the 91 all-ireland semi against the Cats was the greatest ever game we have competed in...

Dessie's goal was that '91 semi. Sambo scored our only goal in the '93 semi. I think we were leading at half time in that one too but ended up getting tanked.

Think you're right .. the '91 game was the one we lost the goal in the first minute .. Mossisey skinned Rogie etc .. what a fight we gave them.. I always remember sitting in the old Cusack and seeing Jim Close turn his man, bear down on goal and kicked it over the bar.. Never felt as sick when the Cats got the two points in injury time to win. The following week mate and I went down to see Down beat Kerry in the football semi .. good crack on the Hill and it sort of got the Antrim game out of the system ,,,,,, few pints helped also.....

Could be wrong but nearly sure we were 3 points up at half time (1-9 to 1-6 if memory serves me right) with Sambo getting a goal towards the end of the first half.

Kilkenny then came out and blew us away in the second half. DJ got a goal where he reacted to a shot coming off Pat Gallagher's cross-bar to bat the ball into the net - you'll find it easily enough on you tube (if you have the heart).

Whatever happened to Gallagher? He seemed to fall away from the county scene shortly thereafter. A Prenter was certainly in goal for the 1996 semi v Limerick.

You're right cloot - 1-9 to 1-6 to antrim at half time and I think you're right about a sambo goal. Everything was looking good. Then the second half a lesson was handed out. Still mind DJ Carey hitting the bar and whacking in the rebound - sickening.

Not sure what happened to Gallagher - not sure he recovered from that day.

Brendan Prenter(was he st endas) did nets for a few years after. Good keeper too. 96 against limerick was another painful day. (was that the year danny mcnaughton died?) They played limerick twice. The first one was an awful hammering. The second one - which i think was 96 - we gave them a better game. Conor McCambride was great that day. That was also the day we near beat KK in the minors.

That 93 game was painful .. Antrim had a score to settle from '91 .. we did lead at half-time and I recall there was a very big antrim support down that day .. then it began to slip away .. three, four points, then a goal ..... a point and a goal .. we collapsed. I recall Sambo had the ball at the final whistle and one of the Kilkenny ones asked him for the ball .. took about three to hold him back from sticking the head in... Still, long gone are the 'special trains' from Belfast - one left at 8 that day and one at 9 and 10... (£9.oo return special fare) .. sitting in the North Star, then LLoyds and whatever stop we could make before Croker ... seriously thinking that we had a chance .. yarning with Tipp men, Limerick, etc (Cats a bit like Kerry never went to semis) ....  actually having big butterflies before the throw in ..... then the trip home - the communication cord being pulled at the Devenish - last orders - and a serious good day out .............. Did you realise that Antrim and Down met in the top of the table NHL Division 1 clash at Casement in Nov. 1992 .. must have been 8,000 at the game - the boy Noel Sands destroyed us that day ... as Down did in the Ulster Final that year.... probably it was all down hill from then..

No lies there cville remember the antrim down league match well. Paul Jenninings got sent off and Paddy braniff cleaned up as spare man. Those were good times with both Antrim and Down having serious teams. OO to have that nowadays

Things really went wrong when they got rid of the grass banks. "Oh they paved paradise and put up the concrete steps".

Good point .. bring back the grass banks now.... oh the memories..... that Down game was crazy . It was pishing down and I remember that the standside was packed. The noise tavelling across the pitch to the hill was awesome....
