GAA Discussion / Serious contenders for Liam
April 20, 2009, 01:22:21 AM
Who do you rate as contenders for Liam and in what order. My opinion based on current form:

Front Runner
Kilkenny

Realistic Chasers
Tipp
Waterford
Dublin

Still a bit to do
Offaly
Cork
Galway
Clare
Wexford
Limerick

Wont make an impact but might case an upset

Antrim
Roscommon
Down
Westmeath

Not next nor near it
New York
The rest no disrepect

By the way this is my opinion on how I think things stand, so no personal attacks please. Also please give your own giving the above format if you wish. Yes i have robbed the idea on oakleafer, thanks.

Schoolgirl rapist shot in attack

The attack happened in the Rosemount Gardens area of Derry

The man shot in both legs in a paramilitary-style attack in Londonderry was awaiting sentencing for raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl.

Keith Burnside, 37, from Rosemount Gardens was convicted in March of raping a girl in his car at Sandbank Cottages in 2000.

Two masked men entered his home in Rosemount Gardens at about 2315 BST on Monday and fired a number of shots.

He suffered injuries to both legs, and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Community worker Tommy McCourt said such incidents made people fearful of a return to violence. "It takes you back to the bad old days," he said.

"We believed that those days had passed and nobody wants to see this kind of thing happening again."

SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey also condemned the attack. "The people who carried out this shooting have no support from the local community and no place in a civilised society," he said.

The police said that those responsible were of slim build and wore tracksuits, baseball caps, and scarves over their faces.

The first man was 5ft 10ins and the second 6ft 2ins.

They want anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the men to contact them. - BBC

What you think of this story? Personally i feel he deserved it and hope he gets a good kicking in jail too!

Hurling Discussion / Brian cody story
March 24, 2009, 01:11:43 PM
I heard this story before the tipp game thought i would share it.

The lads are in getting changed, Cody is setting up the drills. As the lads start coming out of the dressing up, Cody sees one of the fellas is wearing white football boots. Cody walks over to your man and tells him, go and change them boots or ye wont be training. This fella is stunned but instantly runs back to the dressing to change his boots!

When the fella returns codys says to the team, white boots are for posers!

Apparently the policemans lawyer has said that the video is misleading.... He comes into the cell feet first and then leads her out grabbing her hair!

What do you think?

We'll begin with a box, and the plural is boxes,
But the plural of ox becomes oxen, not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese.
You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice,
Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.

If the plural of man is always called men,
Then shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?
If I speak of my foot and show you my feet,
And I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,
Why shouldn't the plural of booth be called beeth?

Then one may be that, and three would be those,
Yet hat in the plural would never be hose,
And the plural of cat is cats, not cose.
We speak of a brother and also of brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then the masculine pronouns are he, his and him,
But imagine the feminine: she, shis and shim!

Let's face it - English is a crazy language.
There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger;
neither apple nor pine in pineapple.
English muffins weren't invented in England .
We take English for granted, but if we explore its paradoxes, we find
that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea pig is
neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't
groce and hammers don't ham? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends
but not one amend. If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all
but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught?
If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes
I think all the folks who grew up speaking English should be committed to
an asylum for the verbally insane.

In what other language do people recite at a play and play at a recital?
We ship by truck but send cargo by ship. We have noses that run and feet
that smell. We park in a driveway and drive in a parkway. And how can a slim
chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are
opposites?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language
in which your house can burn up as it burns
down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out,
and in which an alarm goes off by going on.

And, in closing, if Father is Pop, how come Mother's not Mop?

General discussion / Pranks played on the trainee...
December 11, 2008, 06:42:26 PM
We've all been a trainee at some point in our working lives and therefore, we've all had the obligatory pranks played on us. Whether it was going to the fire officer and asking to get an empty fire extinguisher 'fully charged' or sent to the DIY shop for special shelving screws called 'long short oval-rounds'.

The best I've heard was one my dad and his colleagues played on their trainee. Basically, they work in the hospital as maintainence, and they sent the trainee down to the morgue to fix a lightbulb. As the trainee was walking passed what was an apparently dead person laying under a white sheet on the table, the 'corpse' just sat up and turned it's head (still under the sheet) to stare at the trainee. He 'sh*t' himself and run full pelt out of there.

Absolute classic!

So, what pranks did you have played on you when you were a fresh-faced 16 year old trainee?

General discussion / Ryanair question
November 16, 2008, 10:44:45 AM
Im going to book a return flight to belfast from liverpool. Its £20 inc taxes if i book and check in online.
I was going to do this but i need to bring a bag, but at the minute i cant afford the extra 20 odd quid so... What are the charges like if you book(without any bags) and check in online, then to check in a bag at the airport? Will they look to make a fortune of me both at both airports?
