GAA Discussion / Re: All-Stars 2023

I think Morrissey was asking McKinless about Mickey Harte because he thought Derry players may have mixed feelings about him but I don't think Morrissey realised that McKinless is from County Tyrone. I assume he lives on the Tyrone side of that parish. I wouldn't be surprised if he grew up supporting them.

I may be from County Derry but I would prefer to see Cargin win as I live close to it and I have ancestry from close to their ground. I will support the Glen players when they are wearing red but there is no need to support them when playing for club.

On another note, Maghera and Toomebridge both have quite a bad reputation around this area.

Not the first time a Tyrone footballer has been involved in a "ball grabbing" incident. I remember watching a movie on an adult site if anyone gets my drift.

As long as Derry get to the All Ireland series that is fine with me, I think some Derry fans are forgetting how poor Derry have been for 18 years. Even if Derry get beat in a QF it is a successful season.
I just would like to see Derry give Armagh another sickener in the Ulster final and beat Tyrone in the semi obviously. I've spent too long reading comments from Armagh and Tyrone people online and I have bitterness towards them.

Ballymaguigan are traditionally an Intermediate club, they even own the cup used for the Intermediate championship. Either Ballymaguigan have declined over the past decade or the Derry Intermediate championship has become much more competitive. I think both things are true, the 2001 Intermediate final was Ballymaguigan v Moneymore and nowadays both clubs would be unlikely to win the intermediate. They got to the Intermediate final in 2018 but they lost a few players since then and the best player in that team transferred back to Magherafelt.

An interesting point about Ballymaguigan is that one of their best players is 43 and he is playing along side some of the children of his primary school class mates.

GAA Discussion / Re: New Jerseys?

The people hating on the jersey will still end up buying it for themselves or their children which allows the company to get away with making such a product. If people want them to not make the same mistakes again then don't buy the jersey.
People hated it the last time they released a Derry jersey without the full hoop in 2012 yet I am sure the jersey sold well. I still saw those old jerseys at recent games in the crowd. Maybe if fans hadn't bought them back then O'Neill's would have known to not make the same mistake.

I personally haven't owned a sports jersey in 15 years but I do worry how bad this jersey will look if Derry manage to win the All Ireland in 2024 or 25. The photo of Glass lifting the cup will be a famous image for decades just like the Henry Downey one has been. That ugly jersey could be a very famous one.

It is 6 months before the games, It started in April last year. I would like to see Derry draw Antrim for the first time in 17 years.

I feel as though I am supposed to support Kielty as he is a northerner but in reality I can't listen to him with his posh county Down accent and I never found him that funny. Also what was the purpose of the Palestine conflict speech? People over there aren't going to be watching The Late late show or even clips of it on YouTube. Maybe it is directed at people from that region living here. Cringey stuff either way although Tubridy did cringey speeches like that too especially during Covid.

Check out the haka after a funeral on Home & Away. I thought it was very cringey seeing modern men acting like that.
I am sure the ancient Irish Gaels had dances like this too before war and funerals. Thankfully none of it carried on to today.

Quote from: nrico2006 on October 10, 2023, 10:40:19 PMHow can you get a lifetime ban from the GAA, i.e. what are the actual offences in the rulebook that warrant such a ban?

There are players playing currently who have actually done worse than what Gallagher has allegedly done, should they get life bans too?

There is a GAA youtuber who often invites a former player onto his podcast. This player was in court for abusing his girlfriend and threatening to kill her, there are newspaper articles about it. I sent the youtuber a link on twitter and he blocked me. Human hypocrisy knows no bounds.

My last time at Casement Park was when Mickey Harte's Tyrone beat Derry in 2009. I remember there was loud mouthed Tyrone fans after the game trying to taunt Derry fans.

Hopefully it isn't ready for 2028 as I wouldn't like to see Northern Ireland fans with their flags at the ground. I would rather see it bull dozed and houses built on the land that have that.

I don't get comments like this. Are you implying that someone like me who doesn't watch women sports are a danger to women in society? Sure if I did watch it people like you would be accusing me of being a pervert anyway just like in the 2014 Olympics when men were watching the beach volleyball. We can't win.

I personally have grown to dislike soccer anyway and haven't watched it in years. I dislike the celebrity culture of football and I hate the look of the players with their tattoos.

Quote from: Hereiam on July 31, 2023, 09:19:36 AMSo that's a wrap for the 2023 County football season, what the hell are we suppose to do now?

are you one of those people who follow your county but hasn't got an arses clue about what the game is truely about. Club now has centre stage for the next four months

Most people do have a clue what is happening in the club game even if they don't go to games. A quick look at the back pages of the county newspaper or a scroll through Facebook tells you what is happening in the club season. Anyway, I didn't think Antrim had a problem with band wagoners anyway. Sure half the clubs members wouldn't even go to watch Antrim games never mind the casuals.

Quote from: RedHand88 on July 31, 2023, 01:56:40 PMClub snobs are nearly as bad as hurling snobs! Plenty of legitimate reasons why someone doesn't follow a club.
Unrepentant club snob here. Make no apology for it either. Cant stand these gimps (of which there are plenty) who follow Armagh but wouldn't bother their hole going to watch a local club game. Then cry when paid up GAA members get tickets ahead of them.

Imagine actually getting offended by people from County Armagh going to Armagh matches. If their passport says Armagh they have as much right as you to go watch the team. The funny about it is if the stands were empty at Armagh matches people like you would be complaining too.
