Laois / Re: Laois Senior Hurlers 2024

Quote from: burdizzo on January 09, 2024, 08:45:44 PMHeard some chat that Mullaney was going abroad in the summer. Hoping the timing of that doesn't affect his ability to commit. Didn't see him at the Offaly match, all the same.

In the 'absent' category, Macca is one that would be no harm to have, I'd have thought. The others have probably given their best by now, and I don't think Obular has the hurling for inter-county level.

agree with the above, although J kelly of R/E would surely be a  big addition, he wouldn't be that old? I don't know if he's not committed or wasn't asked back in, but i would have him in.

Yes, most definitely would blame them. To discourage any young player from playing isn't good. It doesn't help anyone. County teams need everyone. Albeit in Laois the silverware might not be a certain, it still gives the player the opportunity to paly at he top level.

1:01 is bad scoring. 4-5 on the county final team not starting/available and a wedding the night before apparently. it still would be a big ask to put up a battle if they had them players. KK junior champions would probably put it up to Portlaoise.

Naas aint a bad team, however camross will be disappointed not beating them. Leinster is wide open this year with Ballyhale not in it.

The teams that won Premier intermediate, Intermediate and Junior A last year all relegated this year.

Hopefully C/B can get a result, been a good few weeks since raperees played their final, so CB should have a slight advantage that way. Dont think Ballinakill have much of a chance against Glenmore if honest. dont know anything about the team trumera plays.

but heres hoping 3 results for the laois teams

Great games yesterday. B/K should have held on to it and got the win. The started so brilliant and with such intensity. They will be sick today having let it slip. I though Mathew at no 65 was very good, got on a lot of ball, gave no chance to Jordan walsh to make an impact. CB never panicked, stayed plugging away, Picky and willie Dunphy the main forwards for them. Once they went ahead near the end, they looked like never losing it then. Credit it to them, I do feel for B/K, 3rd ion a row to lose.

Only saw the 2nd half of the Ballyfinn and Ballinakill game. Don't think Ballyfinn scored from play in the second half? Hard to win a final when no scores from play in the 2nd half. The penalty miss kinda changed it. Ballyfinn chasing it after that miss. Loyns inf airness scored a great goal from the 21 free, made for an exciting last few mins.

Any predictions for Sunday's games? Winners? First goal scores? Man of the matches?

Hopefully two good games. I'm going to go with Ballinakill by 4 & Borris Kilcotten by 2. B/K coming in as underdogs and I think they have a surprise for C/B.
Premier Intermediate, I just think Ballinakill have a bit too much for Ballyfinn, think they'll lead most of the game and win by 4.

First goal scores – Willie Dunphy & Cha
Man of Matches – PJ Scully & Cha

Obviously no one want to see someone transfer from their club to another club, especially when your own club is a small rural one. But my question is, what do you do if a player wants to transfer clubs? Dennoy them that opportunity and make them play with you when they don't want too? Which could result in them not playing at all. I do realise that there has to be restrictions in it or it would be like the premiership with players bouncing from one club to another. But  if a player is looking for a transfer there must be some reason for it, perhaps if they collaborated the reasons behind the requests for transfers they may be able to solve the issue. I presume most transfers from small clubs to larger clubs is to play senior/higher grade, so the CB should give these players an outlet to play at a higher grade (Gaels teams/Divisional team) but still play for their own club. Probably easier said than done though.

Looks like Laois got the better side of the draw, yes they have an extra game and not been cocky here but they should beat either Carlow or Antrim. One thing though, and I know this is only a dream, but imagine if Laois had a season like Leicester City last year and won the All Ireland how many Championship Games would they of played in the season? 9 or 10? In comparison to say Kilkenny who play probably 4 games to win an all-Ireland. Kind of unfair really having to play nearly double the amount of games to win the same cup! As I said though, it's only a dream.  ;D

What age is he BA, never heard of him before is he from the village.

MJ is 30 heading for 31, I played under age football with him for Ballyroan nearly 15 years ago, even at under 16 he was slotting over 45's, and had serious skill back then, but always lacked in size, but there's nothing he can do about that, when you're short you're short!!

Fair enough, valid points above. It just seems strange that 2 of the 3 clubs within the same parish amalgamate with each and the other team in the same parish amalgamate with a team outside their parish.

Just reading the above posts, and some people reacting to Slieve Bloom - Ballinakill amalgamation (before it didn't go ahead) and Clonaslee and Annanough amalgamation. Realistaclly its no worse than the Shanahoe and Ballypickass amalgamation, they have no links with each other at under age, they are not in the same parish and geographically they aren't the closest to each other! So why is it ok for them but some people are complaining about the other two? also i see Colt and Clonad have joined. Why in gods name would Colt, Clonad and Shanahoe not join together as they are all in the same parish! they must have serious issues with each other. ridiculous really.

Anyway that's just my opinion on it. maybe some of you have a different one.
