Look don't base a year on what other did! Base it on what you did. You won a provincial title for the first time in 32 years. That is yours,. That is success.

Kerry underage will have to wait another year for a elusive AI. No AI for Minor or under 21's for a long time now. Kerry are also struggling to win under 21 Munster titles also. Not sure of the stats but i think it has been the mid-ninties since and AI has been won at either grade. Still it's so far seems to have had no effect on the aristocrats at senior level!

Most songs played at a Wedding are usually corny and embarrassing.

Congratulations
Rock the Boat
Jive Bunny Medley
Souped up  versions of Seven Drunked Nights, Dirty old town, Fields of Athenry!

Funny how people seem to lack self respect when they go to weddings and will dance to any auld sh1te. It's like the music is sh1te but we have to make an effort for the Bride and groom (Which i understand). I suppose that's what happens when you play music to entertain everybody!

Presently a poisoned chalice, No players coming through, the last of the 95/97 crop leaving and no real championship form for some time.

..........Provincial winners gained no advantage over Provincal losers as to progression in AI competition.
..........The Semple gate affair, handled terribly. Amateur players deserve better.
..........Cork could have won an AI having lost two games.
..........Kilkenny have not played a Munster team.
.........Waterford played 5 championship games this year yet only met two teams.
.........No one outside of the Big 8 made the breakthrough.
.........Limerick are in the final having played no one outside of Munster.
.........Wexford got to a semi-final and distorted their standing.
.........League games proved to be a mess with Laois, Dublin, Antrim and Offaly getting hidings.
........The doubling up of replays of quarterfinals with Semifinals to get 45 euro for tickets where often the other game was the other code.

Kilkenny and Cork win AIs. We have 4/6 others who can pretend. And we have 24 others who are just so far off of the mark it is not funny. The Ring and Rickard Cups have tried to address the problem in weaker counties but this has been nearly impossible to grade and the finals just end up one sided. Yes we got some good games but, there seemed to be a case of rearranging the deck chairs to the Championship. You lose here you go into a league Basis, it just seems to be about giving you chances and chances to qualify for the quarters. then again when you have a championship with 8 teams i suppose you have to do that. So much for it being called an "ALL" Ireland title.

GAA Discussion / Re: Do culchies deserve respect ?

Sorry, Gnevin that's the way it is. Ask any culchie last year when the Dubs played Mayo and the Hill incident happened. The blood just rushed to the head around the country. Everybody just wanted to see the Dubs lose. Look, ye are the big city team and that will always carry te mantle of ye being a scalp.

GAA Discussion / Re: new order in Ulster
August 13, 2007, 11:17:05 PM
Last year Armagh as Ulster Champions got the short straw in meeting Kerry in the Quarters. If they had met any other team they would have made the semi's. Really the Ulster thing of the past 7/8 years has been just Armagh and Tyrone. Ulster is to broad a term for it. Cavan, Antrim, Monaghan, Down, have been nobodies and Fermanagh, Derry, Donegal have huffed and Puffed to no real effect. 2 out 9, just over 20% of teams in the province does not entitle for it to be called Ulster dominance! if thats the case then Munster football has been very stong because of Kerrys achievements! Not Making the last four means nothing as you can be unfortunate in who you draw in earlier rounds. It's all about who is AI champion!

Look it's the town/country thing! It's the Pale/Rest of Ireland! It's the stereotype Dub/Culchie! We have to cheer against ye. Like we have to cheer against England! Dublin controls our TV. Ye control of Newspapers. Ye control our Weather Forcasts. Ye contol our traffic reports.  We are always seen as second (if even that). Cork tries to compete. But Dublin sees itself as Ireland to its natives and us culchies often feel isolated, so like the old empire (England) when it takes to the sporting field we will back any challenger. It's a love/Hate relationship.

Look lads the best team in Ulster are the Ulster Champions - Tyrone. Monaghan beat nobody this year. Huffed and Puffed against the top sides, played better and lost. nuff said. They are coming but will find next year alot tougher as they will not be hiding in the long grass. Armagh have to be respected and have risen their stock over the last couple of years. As for Donegal and Derry, prize choakers, Have not won an Ulster since '93/92. Tyrone will be the top team in Ulster again next year.

Have to agree with original poster, €45 for a replay is rip-off. No disrespect to Kilkenny/Wexford but it is a nothing game which will generate little or no interest in even the participating counties. Look you have to generate revenue, but is the GAA ethic of an Amateur organisation with family orientated values being lost. The biggest fear i always have with people paying big money to attend matches is that it heightens the weight of pressure on AMATEUR players. if you are paying PROFESSIONAL prices in a PROFESSIONAL stadium to see games, you expect more and the player is who it falls on. GAA is PROFESSIONAL in approach but really is amateur and this is the abuse when you look at entry prices!
