Quote from: Blowitupref on Today at 02:18:45 PMGalway team apart from Tierney,McDaid that would likely be Galway's strongest 15.

Connor Gleeson
Johnny McGrath, Seán Fitzgerald, Jack Glynn
Dylan McHugh, John Daly, Liam Silke
Paul Conroy, Seán Kelly;
Johnny Heaney John Maher, Céin Darcy
Rob Finnerty, Damien Comer, Shane Walsh.

Subs: Conor Flaherty, Seán Ó Maolchiaráin, Eoghan Kelly, Daniel O'Flaherty, Cian Hernon, Patrick Egan, Kieran Molloy, Liam Ó Conghaile, Cillian Ó Curraoin, Matthew Tierney, Cillian McDaid.
Think the bookies may have got this one wrong 6/4 Galway playing at home with all their main men coming back and good record v Derry, who for the first time in a couple of years their squad is being tested due to injuries should make for very interesting game.

Quote from: toby47 on Today at 10:08:56 AMPaudi McGrogan - ACL, Season over.
Niall Loughlin got an opp this week, season over?
Eoin McEvoy out with hamstring injury.
Conor Doc out
Murphy not back on 26 yet, still injured.
Chrissy & Rogers were doubtful, but looks like they will play.
A few other rumours but nothing confirmed.

Matthew Downey, Jack Cassidy, Conleith McGuckain all left the panel in recent weeks.

After league Dan Higgins, Callum & Enda Downey, Conor McGrogan, Oisin McWIlliams & Ben McCarron were all cut off panel - before team holiday to Portugal.

2 u20's called up since their defeat. Ruairi Forbes & McDermott - Both straight onto the panel for tomorrows game.

That seems to be the lay of the land at the minute. Derry's panel getting thinner, after looking like t was bulking up earlier in the season. Another injury or 2 would seriously derail us, especially if it's to the likes of Rogers who is carrying a hamstring injury at the minute.

From the League Final panel where we were all getting optimistic about Derry's panel finally looking strong we will be missing 7 of the 26.
4 Starters - McEvoy, Doherty, McGrogan, Loughlin
3 Subs - Matthew Downey, Conleith McGuckain, Cormac Murphy.
Would it be a concern the number of players leaving panel mid season, seems to be alot especially given the number of injuries Derry have at moment?

Quote from: gawa316 on May 16, 2024, 02:22:32 PMVery impressed with Arsenal this season and that's without a decepnt keeper, left back, striker and left winger. They bring in quality in those positions (Timber might be good enough for LB) they could definitely push on next year
Trossard had a decent season when played on the left 12 goals from 17 starts in league.  Raya definetely helped by how solid arsenal where in front of him.

Quote from: Armagh18 on Today at 12:35:20 AMArmagh club leagues round 13 is 26th July and round 14 (final round) is 2nd August. Championship will be towards end of August. What are club players doing from March until Tyrone are out apart from playing 5 league games?
I see they had some Jim Devlin cup competition running for seniors some slog for non county players to keep them interested without any meaningful games to do late in year.

Quote from: J70 on May 16, 2024, 10:53:09 AMManhunt is really good.

Dramatization of the Lincoln assassination and subsequent hunt for John Wilkes Booth. Booth played by Anthony Boyle, Edwin Stanton, Secretary of War who was Lincoln's right hand man and led the investigation, by Tobias Menzies.

What platform is this on?

Quote from: snoopdog on May 16, 2024, 07:40:35 AMSpurs had a great season and they're only 6 pts, 2 wins better than a bad United side. If United by some miracle  win the Cup, Ten Hag has had a better season than the Farewell Flopp. The main issue with that team is being constantly over run in the middle. 1 correct purchase could be worth an extra 10 points next season, but it's not too often utd get it right in the transfer market this last 10 years or so.
Would a cup win really be a better season over Liverpool?  Liverpool punched above their weight given the big overhaul in midfield and competed for the title for a prolonged period of time and qualified easily for Champions League.

United are more than likely going to finish on a negative goal difference over 38 games(embarassing given the money spent) and have shifted little or none of the deadwood that ETH inherited when he got the job.  The Manager was questioned if was right man for the job every second week.

Quote from: yellowcard on May 14, 2024, 10:46:26 AMWestmeath is a dangerous match but at least we are forewarned having played them last year. It's probably the critical match in the group for us since if we beat them we are almost guaranteed last 12. Management have a big job picking the players up after Sunday now. Barring injuries or knocks I wouldn't make too many changes either given how well we played for 3/4 of the game on Sunday. Maybe just freshen the team up with one or two players. They are quite a defensive outfit as well so it could be worth starting Oisin O'Neill as we will need to be able to pick off scores from long range against them.

Sunday was as sharp as Nugent has looked in Armagh shirt since he did the cruciate, I would have him in the mix too another player who can potentially score from distance.

Quote from: Estimator on May 14, 2024, 07:11:02 AMGreat angle for Dohertys score. He had no intention of calling a mark.
But something went wrong with the Armagh match ups there. Looked like Hall(?) left Doherty free to cover a man in the middle.

Defo something went wrong and i'm sure that will be well investigated.

On Hall, I just dont get his introduction but maybe that's just me. I think we had better options.
You would not be on your own, I think he would be one of the players who gets minutes that would be questioned among supporters. Conor o'Neill/Ross McQuillan for me would have brought more to the table on Sunday that Jemar.

Quote from: bennydorano on May 14, 2024, 10:27:43 AMWholesale changes for Armagh v Westmeath would be madness. It really has to be a guaranteed win or the game will be well and truely up. We're well warned after last year, I wouldn't change any personnel from the weekend - injuries permitting.

See a squad of them on the beer in the Foresters in Lurgan last night, good luck to them, do them no harm.

Yes, was good to see.
Was good to see them letting shackles off. Not a fan of people bringing the children in though for pictures etc, the lads give up alot of time after games to do that for kids win lose or draw should be able to enjoy a few pints in peace after an Ulster Final.

Quote from: lurganblue on May 13, 2024, 08:46:16 AMNot the group Armagh would have wanted to be in of course. It looks like it will be very tough. Westmeath probably should have caught us at this stage last year and they almost caught Tyrone too. That certainly isnt an easy game.

Going to Celtic Park is always difficult for any team.

I dont expect there to be a big margin between the teams in any of the games and so the final standings could well be up in the air. Topping the pile would be amazing.  If not, then getting 2nd and securing that home advantage is essential.

I'd agree. Winning the group is vital.
Galway definitely favourites with the 3 forwards all back and they've have had another 2 weeks training banked

The bookies don't share your view. Derry are 4/5 for next week's game and Galway 11/8.
Good value on Galway at home and a bogey team for Derry.  Galway/Derry to be the top 2 with Armagh/Westmeath battling out for third would be my view. The most winnable game for Armagh is first which not ideal given yesterdays outcome and how flat they were against Westmeath last year.

Quote from: general_lee on May 13, 2024, 11:00:56 AMIf there's a silver-lining to yesterday's performance it's that Armagh put on an exhibition on why the attacking mark should be ditched. Such a stupid rule.

Odd take. I think the attacking mark works. I also don't know why you would get rid of it because 2 Armagh players didn't have a shot.
Why does it work? It stops players from taking a man on and the art of 1 v 1 defending in many instances. I think the general concensus would be that the majority would like to see a player take his man on as that is what gets punters off their seats, not someone being able to take a free shot at goal or worse slow down the attack then kick it back.

It does not stop that, you can still take a man on and many teams do. It does stop a man catching a long ball in and getting swamped by 3 defenders and getting turned over.
Any player worth their salt that catches the ball within 30/35 yards is going to take a free shot at the posts in the majority of circumstances.  The only reason you maybe wouldn't if chasing a game looking and need a goal.

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on May 12, 2024, 06:40:40 PMArmagh fold again on Penalties, Why was Rian O'Neil taken off. Awful way to lose a game. Some Armagh supporters argue that's that a draw! 4 point up with 20 mins to go, Armagh went bck into their shell instead pushing on.
This time Armagh did not fold, good save to win it. Rian couldn't walk at full time, physio was working on him he had run out of gas. Why Oisin doesn't start or come in earlier is a mystery. But Donaghy telling Jarly Og to recycle a mark that was scoreable  points to a mindset that leads to losing games. Twice at least they had the game won and then stopped doing what was working for them. Players running into dead ends and not taking opportunities points to that  same mindset. Something needs to change, if not McGeeney then the back room. They need a change of direction. Some incredible scores yesterday from both teams, fair play Donegal they found a a way.
To be fair they have brought Gilligan into the backroom team this year who is very highly thought of.

Quote from: Keyser soze on May 13, 2024, 09:56:42 AMThat was a great watch, fair play to both teams for a brilliant effort, that could have gone either way. Horrible for Armagh players [and supporters] but that's sport I spose.  Unbelievable that there are posters saying that was a poor quality game!

Can't fathom why 2 Armagh players refused a mark to win the game with time nearly up.

Penalties no way to decide a game, better to keep playing periods of extra time until there's a winner IMO.

Armagh are there or thereabouts, I would say McGeeney has them at near their max on most days out. He mightn't be the best manager about but for sure there a plenty worse. For those of you who want him out and there are plenty on here, who is coming in to replace him that's obviously better?

It is easy to talk the talk but if that translated into the real world there are a couple of guys on this board who would be doing goals for Armagh in a penalty shootout lol

PS Soupy Campbell is one of the most exciting players to watch I have ever seen.

Conaty is a class act too, the directions to recycle came from the side.
Conatys rolling his man for the score in second half was top class.  He doesn't seem the most natural of kickers but has had a very good first proper season.

Quote from: APM on May 13, 2024, 08:35:55 AMDid Armagh do anything overly different in the last quarter compared to the rest of the game. Not really. They sat back and defended they whole way through. They gave Donegal the kickout the whole way through. They were patient in attack the whole way through.

Difference was they were turned over a number of times in the Donegal half. Mackin following a loose pass that skidded away from him, McCabe in the corner, Campbell (off the ground that wasn't). They had a couple of shots drop short and a couple of wides.

Was a period of Donegal dominance not to be expected? They also got a couple of outrageous scores. They are two evenly matched teams after all.
Rian O'Neill broke one in first half which think Murnin got a score of I would agree that didn't press the kickouts nearly enough.
