Big day yesterday in college football, as the "Committee" made their first ranking of the year. This will be revisited every Tuesday until the end of the season to try and arrive at the National Semi Finalists, as well as the other 'New Years' bowls.

The Top 25 is

1   Clemson   8-0
2   LSU   7-0
3   Ohio State   8-0
4   Alabama   7-1

5   Notre Dame   7-1
6   Baylor   7-0
7   Michigan State   8-0
8   TCU   8-0
9   Iowa   8-0
10   Florida   7-1
11   Stanford   7-1
12   Utah   7-1
13   Memphis   8-0
14   Oklahoma State   8-0
15   Oklahoma   7-1
16   Florida State   7-1
17   Michigan   6-2
18   Ole Miss   7-2
19   Texas A&M   6-2
20   Mississippi State   6-2
21   Northwestern   6-2
22   Temple   7-1
23   UCLA   6-2
24   Toledo   7-0
25   Houston   8-0

The Big Bowls would be something like

National Semi Final 1 - Orange Bowl  (1) Clemson v (4) Alabama
National Semi Final 2 - Cotton Bowl (2) LSU v (3) Ohio State

Peach Bowl - (9) Iowa v (13) Memphis
Fiesta Bowl - (5) Notre Dame v (8) TCU
Rose Bowl - (11) Stanford v (7) Michigan State
Sugar Bowl - (6) Baylor v (10) Florida

Heading down to see Notre Dame/Pitt and the Steelers/Raiders in Pittsburgh this weekend.

AZOffaly

Don't jinx the Irish! If they get over Pitt, they should have a clear run to Stanford. That almost becomes a quarter final if Notre Dame only have that narrow loss to Clemson.

Wonder were Michigan would be if they hadn't a botched that kick?

AZOffaly

Or Michigan State??? Actually maybe that's the answer. Michigan might be 7th and Michigan State 17th.

Just watched the Colts Panthers game. Carolina won in overtime in a crazy game. Carolina miles in front and  Luck couldn't hit a pass for the first 3 quarters but then hit a hot streak with 17 unanswered points to take it to overtime in the 4th. Both hit field goals in ot then the colts were driving when a pass was deflected and intercepted.  Panthers win with a field goal.

Panthers move to 7 0 while the colts are in a dog fight in the division. Carolina defense was immense for the first 3 quarters but Tired badly.  Lucky to get the win in the end

For anyone interested Green Bay v Carolina is live on free to air TV on Pick TV Freeview (11), Freesat (144), Sky (152), Virgin Media (123)

Should be a cracking game

The Packers are going to have to right the ship, Rogers has gone off the boil by his standards but the protection is not what it was. I expect them to right the ship and make the superbowl.
Armagh, the one true love of a mans life.

Their D is their big problem, over 500 yds given up on 3 straight games

The Vikings and Green Bay in two weeks time could be quite the game.

I'd expect the Packers to be more than comfortable. The Vikings are not as good a team as their record suggests and some of the advanced stats show them up. They started out with one of the handiest schedules and their run in is one of the toughtest. The next five go @Raiders (although they took a backwards step yesterday), Pack, @Falcons, Seahawks, @Cardinals.

Still though, divisional and historic rivals fighting it out for the NFC North should make it fun. At the end of the season though, I expect GB to win the division with a few games to spare.

I can't stand the guy, but have to give Newton a lot of credit this season. He'd looked average enough for the last year or two but has really stood up so far this season and the chatter about MVP candidacy is merited. Still not convinced by the Panthers as a Super Bowl team overall but they should go at least 10-0. Impressive having lost Benjamin for the season in training camp.

Big injury blow for the Pats yesterday. Dion Lewis could be gone for the year. They're better than everyone else at next man up, but they don't have anyone for this . Potentially huge loss...

Jell 0 Biafra

Knicks still dubious, but Kris Porzingis, their pick from the last draft is already special.  He's the steal of the draft, and if he avoids injury, will be a great player.

Yeah, he looks fantastic. New York will ruin him though.
