Easy wins for the Kerry Senior B  Intermediate Champions (the county's second level) in the Munster Intermediate Championship and Kerry intermediate B Junior Premier Champions (the county's third level) in the Munster Junior Championship.
Fossa put the game to bed as a contest by half-time, leading 1-11 to a single point.

In the Rathmore Kanturk game the home-county side scored only once more before the break and trailed 1-10 to 0-2 at the turnaround.

Fixed your post there.

I think Kerry is the most interesting one
In the early years of the GAA the dominant team in kerry was Tralee John Mitchel's, the only team in Tralee.  In 1927 the team was broken into 3 for competition purposes- Mitchels, Austin Stacks and Kerins O'Rahillys. Kerry also has teams amalgamated from a few parishes, called Divisional teams, which also boost competitiveness.  What you end up with is a fair spread of competitiveness across the county. And that is what you need to win  all Irelands.

The top 7 teams have between 9 and 13 titles.
Very different to the Cross model. If Cross are weak Armagh probably won't come up with a replacement.

Small point of order here...

The pre-1925 entrants from Tralee were a representative side, Tralee Mitchels, formed by combining the three street league teams, namely Rock Street, Strand Road and Boherbue.  1925-1928 saw a divisional side just called "Tralee" enter (no Mitchels added, but sometimes referred to as Tralee Parnells which was the hurling team from the town).

1928-1932 saw the three streets enter using their street names.  In 1932, Rock Street was renamed Austin Stacks, Boherbue became John Mitchels and Strand Street became O'Rahilly's (the Kerins part was added in 1953 in memory of club member Charlie Kerins who was hanged on 1 Dec 1944 after Eamonn de Valera's government refused to issue a reprieve following his guilty verdict in the killing of Garda Detective Denis O'Brien in September 1942, but that's a different story).

It is correct to state that Austin Stack (the man) played his championship football with Tralee Mitchels, often a sore point among supporters of both clubs.

Current leaders of County Championship wins is:

Dr. Crokes and Austin Stacks with 13 each

John Mitchels, Laune Rangers, East Kerry, South Kerry have 10 each

Tralee Mitchels have 9

Dingle, Kerins O'Rahilly's 6 each

GAA Discussion / Re: Club Matches / Finals etc.
August 29, 2022, 03:33:32 AM
Kerry's club schedule for 2022 is interesting reading.

County league - 11 games - finished by the All-Ireland final (even with 2 weekends of playoffs).  Started in March, after Divisional league games (maybe 3 per club) that generally count for very little.  League played without county men of any grade.

Club championships, which decide the clubs going forward to Munster club competition, had 3 group games plus the quarter-finals in August.  Semi-finals scheduled the same weekend as County championship quarter-finals, if clubs not involved with divisional teams.  Senior club final will not be played until both are done with the County championship.  Relegation final (Austin Stacks v Kenmare) likewise, although a club that reaches the County final cannot be relegated.

County Championship starts 9/10/11 Sept, with 8 club teams and 8 divisional teams in 4 groups.  Games for 3 weeks in a row, top two to quarter-finals, after a week off 2 Oct.  Quarter-finals and semi-final on consecutive weekends and a week's gap to the final on 30 Oct, replay 5 Nov if needed.

Senior final: Templenoe v Kerins O'Rahilly's

Intermediate semi-finals: Beaufort v Rathmore; An Ghaeltacht v Killarney Legion

Junior Premier semi-finals: Listry v Ballymacelligott; Ardfert v Fossa

For the David and Paudie Clifford fans out there, Fossa would be ranked fourth of the Junior Premier semi-finalists by a lot of the local aficionados, having already lost to Marc O'Se trained Listry, while Ballymacelligott have moved up through the divisions to be a Division 1 team in the County League.  Having no senior county players helps the club in the league.  Ardfert go up and down in seeming reverse-correlation to the effort they put into the hurling as they are a true dual club.  Fossa had their first round Junior Premier game the Sunday after the All-Ireland final against Listowel at the request of the clubs involved due to a wedding the following weekend.  All the other county players had a weekend off after the All-Ireland final

Training only started seriously for a lot of clubs in July...especially the cost aware clubs, a lot of whom brought any outside managers/specialists in on that date.  Club volunteers had a running plan and a bit of training for those who chose to do so once a week for the first six months of the year.  A run in early July for promotion or to avoid relegation might bring training forward a week or two.  Pretty clever use of the calendar by the treasurers there.

After the County Championship and the club championships are completed, the area divisional championships will get going in November.

A player on a club team that would win nothing would play 3 div league games, 11 county league games, 3 group club championship games and a divisional championship game.  That's 18 games minimum.  Being on a senior club or good enough to be on a divisional team for the County Championship guarantees another three group games in the County Championship.

Is 18-21 games in competition per year about what other counties have for the average club player not on a county panel?

Let's hear your breakdown.

Well folks, I'm delighted to provide an update that was a long time coming - recent test show no sign of any suspicious activity and the medics now consider me to be a member of the public presenting for screening tests only and not as a cancer patient.

Had CT and colonoscopy in the last 10 days and all biopsies negative and healing is continuing nicely.

CT and colonoscopy frequency moves to annually now until summer 2025 (so three more), subject to each one's findings.

No restrictions on diet, just trial and error on what effects me - I'd say the tougher to digest items like steak, lamb, brisket, and raw vegetables will be off my menu for a while, but all cooked veggies and salad leaves are back on (small amounts to start).  Won't have a spicy Chinese for a while either. Still can't process wine for some reason and a pint of cider is barely manageable - not necessarily a bad thing.

Delighted with everything.

It's been a long battle since initial diagnosis in October/November 2019, but the amazing support I've felt has got me through it step by step.

This board has been huge for me - a great place to write down my treatment plans and to soak up the support from complete strangers.  You will never know how much of a difference the posters here made, especially when I kinda struggled to meet my commitments to posting on a regular basis.

I can say now that I see no need in providing any more updates, so I'll end up with the scoreline:

Ball Hopper 1, Cancer didn't.

Good man....BH

Your story, in part,, inspired me to have my first colonoscopy  just a week ago.

And that makes it all worthwhile for me...good man.

Deborah James, or bowel babe as she was known through her podcast died yesterday, for me this strikes a chord due to my own father dying of bowel cancer and my sister a bowel cancer survivor...

Some cancer's are easily treated if caught early, I say easily treated but that's from my perspective of doing the hospital runs not actually taking the treatment, my sister had the signs but didn't act until the week of my dads funeral, the tumor was large and aggressive, but luckily for her was contained in the bowel and had breached the walls, one more week or two and I'd be posting a different post..

The treatment of chemo is horrible for most, but until something else is found its the only way to get most cancers, that and radiotherapy, the amount of times my sister told me to f**k off when I said you've only a few more to do you can do this was plenty, we laugh now but it was a horrible time for her and others going through it.

Check your pooh, if your are noticing something different about your body, get it checked out, prolonged niggles or coughs, few friends recently caught throat cancer, non smokers and fit guys late 40's..thankfully for them and their families they have come out the other end after doing something about it.. one of them is doing marathons now!!

Deborah James took some much time to reply to people who messaged her on social media, my sister even got a reply to her last year and listening to 5 live on the way in was a tough listen as she was a regular on that show in the evenings

Early detection is indeed the key.  Schedule colonoscopy when it is recommended, age wise, and earlier if family history.

I'll have my annual colonoscopy along with a full-body CT scan by the first week of August and will report the results here by mid-August.

Initial signs are good...a blood Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) test shows very good results, although the CEA test is not a diagnostic tool, in that low levels prove nothing (but high levels would signal further review in cancer patients).

All other blood work had normal results, except for the glucose.  Just not able to walk/exercise enough to get the levels down - hopefully that will be my only priority come August and I'll be able to start some S&C work at home and in the backyard.

Will update again mid-August.
