Quote from: redsetanta on April 17, 2024, 10:15:01 AMU20's seem to have made a right go of it last night.

Meath had the ability to get goals and the scoreline doesn't reflect how close they were. Two very early goals and then one in the last minute.

Laois put up a very good performance last night but shot themselves in the foot on too many occasions. The scoreline does not reflect the closeness of the game. Mid way through the second half, in my opinion, Laois were looking the better team and most likely winners.

Kieran Kelly has done a good job with these lads.

I think you are right. Its now an entirely devalued competition so let it take the place of the O'Byrne Cup at the start of the season.

Offaly the better team by far. Positives for Laois; we are not playing Dublin in Croke Park, opportunity for everyone to rest for a week or two begore giving the Tailtean Cup a go. Playing eight games in the league (in awful weather conditions), these lads have had no break since January.

Its a crazy system, whereby teams who have been successful in the league go straight into the championship with little or no break.

No disrespect to the older players, but lets see a couple of newer faces in the Tailtean Cup. Its time to bring in the likes of Fingleton, Burke, Dunne and Murphy.

Lets see a fresher team in the Tailtean Cup.

Good luck to Offaly against Dublin. They will play them with no fear.

Quote from: The Boy Wonder on April 10, 2024, 11:18:49 AMDublin straight into semi-final after winning 2/2 in 3-team group.
Kildare straight into semi-final after winning 2/3 matches in 4-team group.

Laois into quarter-final after winning 3/3 matches in 4-team group.
And their reward ? A date with 2021 Leinster Minor Champions, Meath.

In fairness, i'd say the group Laois won was the weakest of the three groups.

Great win Laois. Any time a Laois team lifts a cup in Croke Park is a great day. Should be a big boost to the confidence. This win is much more important than doing  well in the upcoming Leinster championship. Lets see now how we do in the Tailtean Cup.

What clubs are discouraging their players from representing Laois? Hurling or football or both?

In fairness, didn't Peter Fitzpatrick double job with Louth footballers while also being a TD?

I can't help wondering whether Justin McNulty's return to Laois football will actually happen! Apparently he is coming under pressure from the SDLP leadership for his decision to get involved with Laois again.

According to Suzanne Breen of the Belfast Telegrsph,  Fianna Fail's NI spokesman accuses the SDLP leadership of trying to "force out" MLA Justin McNulty from Stormont for taking a job as Laois football manager.

Instead of wishing him luck with a difficult task, in typical Laois fashion, let's have a big argument over his appointment.

Luke many GAA people in the county, these lads are just losing interest.

Quote from: High Fielder on October 03, 2023, 09:13:24 AMI'd say you're right Saint. Looking like another desperation appointment and a rushed preparation for the new season. Truly hopeless

A shambles. You'd have thought that, after the debacle against Down, the early appointment of a credible management team would be a priority. Not so. Any time will do. Useless >:(  :(  :o

Why do chancers provide the precise make up of the senior football management team when interviews are still ongoing?

Donald Trump is the man that would make Laois great again.  ;D

Judging by the standard of the senior championship matches last weekend not even God almighty can save us let alone Trump , Mary , Joseph , Jesus , Kinsella , Martin Murphy and whoever else's name gets linked to the managerial vacancy

This kind of negative, hopeless commentary must stop. With a good set up and the best 30/40 players fully committed to Laois football then we could progress to div 3 or maybe 2. People making doomsday statements only serves to make our county football team less attractive to management and players.

We know where we are. It's not good but it's definitely salvageable.

I think you make a good point. I know I have contributed to it myself, but the constant, unrelenting negativity does no one any good.

It would appear that there was a meeting of the CB Executive Committee earlier this week. Was what happened in Croke Park last Sunday discussed? Who knows? Does the Laois GAA public need to know? Apparently not.
