Can someone clarify did Walsh or Cusack not have the option to retract or disallow their statements to be used once Humphries pleaded guilty or when they heard all the evidence?

Ex High Court judge said on TV3 Tonight Show that there was no reason they couldn't have withdrawn their character references between the hearing and the delivery of the sentencing if they wanted.
Isn't that the whole point of a character reference I.e. it is only used after the person is found guilty. There would be no need for a character reference if they are found innocent.
Yes, agreed. But I thought either or both had used the argument that they were misled or didn't know the full story when giving the original references. If there was an opportunity for them to be withdrawn pre-sentencing then this argument is irrelevant. It casts both in a very poor light.

Finished Narcos Season 3 & it was superb - very fast moving compared to the 1st 2 seasons & more characters to focus on.

Started Mindhunter yesterday thanks to Ophelia & 1st 2 episodes are very promising

Coaching the coaches has a lot of impact. And having a GPO within the club gives easy access to a better standard of coaching for the parents who take on coaching roles. GPO's can also come along to training sessions with the kids once-in-a-while to give a session where both the kids & coaches benefit.

That's not to mention the benefit of a GPO visiting the local primary school at least once a week to coach the kids - that doesn't happen in any other county.

Why doesn't the GAA start investing money in Belfast like they do in Dublin? There's a huge untapped playing base in Belfast. It's like Dublin in that many voluntary coaches have come from rural areas but they don't get anywhere near the same levels of paid support from GPO's etc. as volunteer coaches get in Dublin

Nice of RTE to miss the teams coming out onto the field due to their yapping and then to talk over the trophy presentation too.

Maybe it was the above, the short captains speech, or that Dublin won yet again, but the whole presentation/celebration smelled of a Junior B county final win, and not the biggest day in Irish sport.
Was at the game & fair play to Dublin they're a great team to come through in so many tight finals. But the speech from Cluxton was depressing - the most soulless, passionless, uninspiring words from an AI winning captain. He looked like he was reading it off a sheet & wouldn't have looked out of place at a funeral

Normally 9.30pm, I've watched a good few. Some notable changes from today's game even apart from the obvious change from 15-on-15 and once you get it just hoof it down the pitch as far as you can!

In the Down V Meath final there was only about 30 seconds injury time played. There were men down in the 2nd half a few times & also a raft of substitutions. Crazy to think you could just run down the clock by bringing on suns or staying down for some physio treatment. But it seems like simpler times - no complaints from Meath when the ref blew it up

I was in row V in the Lower Davin. Got very lucky in that the row in front us got a drenching and we escaped with splashes of rain water on our feet. That was a pretty intense shower at the end of our game.

Good to hear, I'm in row X tomorrow

In the Davin? Reason I ask is my mum was in row AA in Cusack and got a soaking. Depends on direction of wind I suppose.

Cusack. Hoping the wind won't be blowing our way
Was in GG in Cusack yesterday & got a few blasts of rain when the wind gusted. DD or EE were drenched

Hope Gavin takes Whelan advice & plays 2 sweepers, so Dubs will have 3 defenders marking 1 Tyrone attacker who they will never kick the ball into anyway!

McCann & McGeary should make way for McClure & Rory Brennan. Can't afford to have any weak links against the Dubs

Harte is worried there will be  a repeat of Armagh's antics from the 2014 game. Several of the Armagh lads held on in the pre-match handshakes including whoever did it to Matty Donnelly causing Matty to get booked. It was obviously a pre-orchestrated plan by Armagh prior to throw-in and it worked.

Harte doesn't want something similar happening this weekend. Armagh will want to turn the game into a dogfight, Tyrone don't as they know they have superior players who if they play to their potential should win the game

If results go as expected it looks like a fair chance of a Tyrone V Monaghan rematch in AIQF

If Tyrone and Dublin win then Monaghan will have to play Kildare in R4 qualifier (as Monaghan can't play Down again)

If Kildare win that then they'll play Tyrone in AIQF (as Kildare can't play Dublin again)

If Monaghan beat Kildare it's then 50/50 whether they play Tyrone or Dublin in AIQF

I would much prefer Dublin to be facing Monaghan as playing Tyrone would be a role reversal of AIQF's in 2013 and 2015 when Tyrone came through the qualifiers to turn over the Ulster champions

It is still a possibility for Monaghan and Down to meet  if both Monaghan and Armagh win their respective 3rd rd qualifiers.
Oh right yeah, that leaves a lot of permutations then having to come through for Tyrone and Monaghan to meet

Yeah not much craic on here. Maybe it's because Tyrone are such strong favourites to win, might have been a different vibe if it was Monaghan they were up against. I remember 2003 final all too well though and chatting before it that there was no way you could see Tyrone losing - so won't underestimate Down again. But in truth Tyrone should be winning this pulling up - especially with the strength to come off the bench in the 2nd half. Down were hanging on by their fingernails in the last 20mins against Monaghan and that was after getting a soft enough goal from a penalty.

Anyway, always good to be in Clones on Ulster Final day, a few beverages, bit of football and plenty of banter to look forward to

Dublin are class but in Leinster teams just let them have their way. Feck it, even a late hit would be something but its just let them do what they want.
Every team should be able to rattle it for 20 minutes surely?
Exactly, think there was only 1 card & that was well into 2nd half. At least try to get into Dubs faces, hit them hard, take a card or 2. Don't just stand back admiring them. Spineless stuff

It's not whether he's wrong or not, he's meant to be delivering facts or stats but he can't even put it into a coherent sentence. He says he thinks they beat Letrim, either they did or didn't & you've had all week to do your research. And the constant "eh, like, eh" is embarassingly amateurish

OK but that seems minor in comparison to some of the other faults the programme has
And it's not a minor issue that the "expert" analyst can't string a sensible coherent sentence together
