Suprised no word of this on main board:

Derry star Eoin Bradley could be hit with a 48-week ban after he allegedly struck a referee following his club Glenullin's exit from the Derry SFC on Saturday evening.

If the highly-rated forward is found guilty of such an offence, he will miss Derry's entire 2011 campaign and will join his older brother Paddy on the sidelines after he announced his retirement from inter-county football earlier this year.

Glenullin lost to Ballinascreen by 3-2 to 1-7 and immediately after the final whistle, Bradley was alleged to have punched Dungiven referee Declan O'Connor in the face as he made his way to the dressing room at O'Brien Park in Foreglen.

The Derry county board are awaiting the referee's report before deciding what course of action to take.

Can't believe that one of the top players in Ulster is alleged of punching a referee in the face (per the Irish News) and there isn't a word about it on here. If true won't help any new Derry manager for next year.

Already been discussed at length in the appropriate thread here:

If its true due to the high nature profile of the player, the offence and the fact it could rule him out for Derry next year its fair to say its more than a local matter.

What was Paddy's offense the other year?

Was it no, alleged, to be something similar?

Definitely merits a thread of it's own. The Derry discussion board used to be good but being dragged down quite a bit by a few "newbies".

sam03/05

sure Paddy done the same and got away with it, so why not

Refer to imtommyguns post above BB.

This incident is the latest of a long list of verbal and physical assaults involving officials in Derry these last few years. If the county board do not put down a marker here then what message does that send out. The Bradley lads seem to have serious problems controlling themselves but that is hardly suprising when you watch 'The Baker' on the sidelines. Issues like these, that are all to frequent, are the main reason why Derry can do very little on the Inter county pitch.

A good footballer on his day, that cannot be denied, yet very very erratic which leads to game plans going out the window, and accompanied by an ego, which has led to a decrease in team morale. If someone does lift there hand to an official and proceed to play for there county again, its simply a wrong message to be sending out and not something any GAA man should endorse.

Jodyb, I presume that was an attempt to be the 'Keyboard Hardman', hows about steepin off the high horse and catching yourself on.   :-*

Surely the punishment is enough, if not, maybe you should head your next club convention and forward a motion with what you deem to the appropriate punishment?
If you don't want him on the panel for football reasons, fair enough, but there's plenty of players who've transgressed to a much greater degree than skinner over the years.  Whilst not actually as serious as Skinner's slap, but along the same lines, should Galvin be allowed play again?  Canavan did a bit of shoving at a linesman too and I haven't even thought about who's actually done worse.

To be honest I think its the new mangers decisions more than anything in collaboration with the CB to decide the players future in terms of county football, it will represent hugely the image they wish to portray, to the rest of the country and county. I do see your point about Galvin, but not to sound 'old school' but theres a difference between boxing a ref and knocking away his book (feel bad for your wexford man in the porno but, to much punishment in my books :D), but galvins actions should still be condoned and his punishment was 'suitable'. The ulster council has been putting in big work in terms of education of the underage cubs in regards 'respect' and these kinda of things do not help. As for Canavan, I would have banned him for life, and gave him 200 hrs of rounders coaching as community service............I now await the Tyrone lynch mob, pitch forks and silege in hand........ :-[ :-[   The rugby and soccer guys jump at opportunities like this to insult are games, of which this kinds of incidents have no place, the same mentality was alive when the young armagh minor fella was assaulted. Am all for a man hitting someone with the shoulder an letting him know he's there, but lifting the closed fist is unacceptable behavior.

Stop trying to equate what Paul Galvin did to the actions of this thug.
