What was brutal about it? Making the best of what we have and dug out a win. The wheels came off with Paudies black card. Not sure wat it was for. Always begrudgers

Really don't see how Matty starts at 6 unless as a sweeper and someone else picks up the marking job on a Cavan forward
I struggle to see how Matty starts at all to be honest having missed so much of the league

McKiernan has nailed 6 and will surely start there, its a dummy team, expect Aidan Clarke to start corner back

My prediction is Matty doesn't start and comes in off the bench for the second half or last 20mins depending on how its going, deployment also as required, could be middle third could be FF
This has aged pretty badly.........

I expect a division one team who are leading by 7 or 8 points to close the game out.

They coukd be forgiven if it was a one off as some of the great teams of the past struggled against the likes of cavan, westmeath etc.  It happens.  This team have been given plenty of passes at this stage though

A lot of players not available and showed character to dig it out. Look at Div 1 league winners last nite against Div 2.. hammered... life is not so formulaic.

I think it's unfair to refer to this 'this team' being given passes, when almost half of the team had no championship experience. It was very much a different team. They were also playing a team that was just off a win against a division 1 team.

They were very good in parts and looked poor in others. That's going to happen with having so many inexperienced players. Experience will come.

Have to say Mattie Donnelly looked in great shape and massive credit must go to him for getting himself back.

Ah now quit nitpicking 😆

A dominant display by Matty, played with a heroic passion and serious class 👏

Team lost its way badly again and Mattie was right to highlight that in his post match interview. All very well to say there were lots of young lads out there but this is a pattern we've seen all too often in last two championships. The game was won and Cavan should never have been allowed back into it. Lucky to get over the line and I didn't see much to suggest we'll do anything against better opposition. The team is packed with talent but lacks direction.

I think Donegals strong running game will cause us serious bother. Kilpatrick being back in midfield would be a serious boost. Maybe him and Harte weren't risked today in expectation of a semi final a week later? Oguz must have been carrying a knock as well not to be starting today. Thought he made a decent impact today.

I'd love to know what L/Ds game plan is bar pack 15 into defence and hope mcCurry / Canavan do something if the ball gets their length on the break.

Have seen very little distinguishing last 3 years tactics from Harte's old defensive approach , except for a more 'unstructured' attack.

Lot of talent there but every game seems to be pot luck in terms of what Tyrone we see. In fact not even every game.... Every half

Some harsh assessments... 9 Tyrone players made championship debut today. Showed great character to dig out that result. Need to temper expectations of a team totally in transition..

No issue with players being blooded, transition years, need to gain experience...all that stuff....fine...

But surely you should be able to see a plan, a system, some kind of tactics beyond the basic, something to give these players a structure to develop in ...

What does that even mean? Lost their way when Hampsey went off on the black card... need to look at that. They were the much better side.

What that means is exactly what it says. It's great to see new players get brought in and given a meaningful taste of league and championship.

There is also a lot of talent there, which means we can go on scoring sprees and look fantastic for periods. All good. So the raw ingredients are there.

What is not evident is a system or structured gameplay to compete with Dublin/Kerry/Derry (and McGuiness back means Donegal are also a much diffeent prospect).

There is zero consistency in the team, from quarter to quarter, never mind game to game.

Maybe I just dont see/understand the current tactics as well as others and I would be delighted to be proved wrong.
