Quote from: Wildweasel74 on March 07, 2024, 11:04:40 PMDoubt Dooher have much time for Tyrone next year saying he appointed NI chief vet.

Ehh, hello. A Civil Servant and no time to themselves does not go together. That's why they join the Civil Service, they'll have all the time in the World to do their "Other Work"

Dooher is not a back office administrator who has little responsibility or accountability. He is the chief vet in the province and he didn't get that job by sitting on his hands and knees so I think that is unfair.

It's very unusual to see an intercounty manager who is not using the GAA as a career tool and both he and Logan deserve a lot of credit for that as it must be stressful and challenging trying to combine the two roles. You need not look any further than Logans recent health issues to realise the difficulties of combining a busy professional career with a county managers role.

Which province is that a mhac?

Some of the mesh systems are a little bit tricky compatability wise with Sky Q etc. Worth looking at prior to purchasing, Google it.

Was wondering why there wasn't a mention of the Wicklow game on Mondays podcast since they usually have a dedicated half hour
Reminds me of time Tullamore lad pushed ref after Leinster club game last year when Tullamore native Paul Rouse said would not talk about it on the Examiner podcast that week but would definitely deal with on another episode. Think he never brought up again.

That said think it's a very good podcast.

Quote from: imtommygunn on February 09, 2024, 08:43:58 AMIt was definitely very interesting and about someone I didn't know very much about but the GAA side of it like you say was probably the least interesting bit. Some achievement taking up rugby at that age and ending up in the world cup.
Not really when you consider the numbers of adult female rugby players and their necessity on going after players from GAA background amongst other sports.

Quote from: ranch on February 04, 2024, 05:07:08 AMOwen Mulligan didn't go to uni to my knowledge, but he has a great collection of medals. Inter county provincial and all Ireland medals at minor, u21 and senior. National league. Club championship (intermediate) at county, provincial and all Ireland level (x2). Senior championship in London.
All Ireland Vocational schools with Tyrone as well as an all Ireland with Holy Trinity in 1998. Pretty much won the lot.

But didn't  ;D

Some haul in fairness.

Still I'd say it's one of that special collection of all Ireland medals to have, think there a few with minor, under 21, senior county, club and higher education (Fitzgibbon and Sigerson) medals.

Think Canning in hurling has the full lot

Mike Frank Russell had the lot won at 21 I think.

Fair play JP, brilliant generosity. He is obliged to give feck all as a tax exile but consistently gives money to his chosen areas.

Many other tax exiles court plenty of media interviews and talk the talk, JP just does it.

When on top they never got that security goal, Liverpool just hung in and got their just desserts..

But for most of the match made Liverpool look bang average
begob you're some man for the soccer

Joyce has had 1 good season and 3 less than impressive ones, he's definitely improved Galway football as a whole and brought the buzz back. Big vocal Galway crowd in Salthill yesterday waiting for Galway to catch fire but the 2023 version under PJ is a lot duller than previous incarnations and feels like it's their undoing.

Having +2 back in defense makes heroes out of inexperienced defenders and in reality with the dominance Galway enjoyed in middle third being outgunned by Mayo is a big role reversal to the days where in Galway broke 45/55 with Mayo they invariably won. Appreciate it's a different game these days but some habits are hard to break. PJ blaming ref once more and injuries doesn't cast him in any great light, bitter and deflective perhaps. Winning tight games is an art and one Mayo are no masters of but 3 wins and a draw v Galway this year says something.

The bitterness that has transferred to games has not avoided this fixture, some awful crap being spun on all sides. Surprised An Fhairce's finest resorting to calling out O'Donoghue as a tr**p, not many innocents out there yesterday. Kelly bravely started on the much lighter Hession and was rightly taken to task about it, Kelly was fine afterwards and the game started. Sounds like you are out for your pound of flesh.

Met many a Galway supporter yesterday and only the finest of craic and slagging, few unhappy relations but they enjoyed Shane Walsh shooting long range frees in Castlebar last summer to lead by 6 with 5 minutes remaining to fall over the line by 1.

Happened right in front of us. Seán Kelly was roughing up the smaller lighter Enda Hession before start of 2nd half, O'Donoghue goes in to make life a bit more awkward for Kelly as his team mate getting the bully treatment. Kelly was fine.

From 1997 and into the early 00's, Teddy must have spent some amount of time in chippers, bars and hotels to be the punchline of the yarn that goes like this.
A bunch of Clare lads were giving it socks about how great their hurling team was.
Some Cork wag eventually has enough and announces "Ye think ye're great after winning two All Irelands in 80 years. There's a man over there who won that in two weeks".
At which point, Teddy waves over/gives the fingers/drinks his glass/eats his curry chip.
Anthony Daly got the line in Cork pub when on about his 2 all Irelands "sure Teddy won 2 in a fortnight ".

Carrick on Shannon next sat 5:15 for Mayo  v Monaghan

Double header with Galway v Derry at 3:30pm

Other two semi finals a double header in Nowlan Park at 1pm and 3pm

Kilkenny should get nothing football considering how poor an effort their county board put in to the game.

Pat Spillane.

Kerry have now put themselves in a difficult position, in which they will now have to play an additional game - potentially against a strong opponent - in order to progress to the last eight, in a situation which they had hoped to avoid:

Jack O'Connor made no secret of the fact that he wanted to go the direct route. Now, almost certainly, once they win that one match or two, they'll be going in through the preliminary route. They will be going in the preliminary route, I can't see Mayo being beaten.

If they come second, they've home advantage - that's fine. But that means that Mayo will have a week's rest.

Those teams playing in the preliminary quarter-final will then the following week play the quarter-final, and the following week play the semi-final. Ha! I'll tell you this, if I was a manager, that's tough going.

If Kerry are second and have a home match in Killarney, they've a home match against say Tyrone or Armagh. That's not a gimme.

I'm not writing off Kerry, absolutely not writing off Kerry, but their task got that little bit more difficult since last Saturday.

This is the most open championship that I can remember...maybe somebody said since 2010.

In 2010 the four provincial winners got beaten, and Cork played Down in the final.

Obviously Dublin dominated since then, but I think it's the most open championship. I could pick out about seven counties that I feel have a chance. There's no outstanding team, none at all.

Kerry, Dublin, Derry, I could find flaws in every one of the leading contenders. That's what probably makes this year's championship so intriguing and so open. There are, I believe, seven in with a chance.

Kerry, Dublin, Derry, Mayo, Armagh, Tyrone, Galway...take your pick, in one of the most open All-Ireland football championships in recent memory.
That article took Pat about 3 minutes to dial in.

Kerry lads have big expectations of their Diarmuid O'Connor but he's been either a bit underwhelming or injury prone so far. Is that fair to say and could he now have the maturity to step in to David Moran's boots?
