Sea The Stars

Hard luck to anyone on the 4-timer. I know they were all fav's and short ones at that but I never thought it'd be looking so comfortable coming to the last in the Mares - how unlucky is that. The other 3 were as impressive as you can get - career best from them all. What a day for Willie Mullins, still got the 4-timer himself!

As a racing novice, pardon the pun, is Ruby Walsh a superior jockey to Tony McCoy. He seems to win more of the big races. Would he have more wins at Cheltenham than McCoy?  Or is the jockey secondary to the horse. Ie: can a good jockey win on a bad horse?

They're very different at being the best.

Ruby is a very calm, measured jockey and the perfect partner to a top class animal.

AP on the other hand, would specialise in getting every last sinew from a horse, whether it's a thoroughbred or a cart horse.

To put it another way, if you're down to you last fiver, McCoy will leave you in doubt that his horse can't have done any more for your money. You might not always feel the same way with Ruby.

Ruby's record in big races over the past decade has been helped no end by being number 1 jockey for the trainers in England (Nicholls) and Ireland (Mullins) who monopolised the grade 1 markets, before settling with Mullins full time. But his part shouldn't be underplayed either: Nicholls isn't  hitting the same heights without him, while Mullins has gone through the roof since.

Donnellys Hollow

Faugheen is something else. There's not many horses who win a Ballysteen p2p and a three mile novice hurdle around Limerick who line up in a Champion Hurdle, let alone win the thing!

He could be a multiple winner if he stays right. He's not hard on himself like some of the flashier types that have gone before him so he has every chance.
There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

SHEEDY

I've a 20quid free bet to use on fridays gold cup and im thinking of an each way bet on road to riches or on carlingford lough. what do the experts on here who know a bit more about racing than me reckon?

Despite losing a right few quid with Annie Power falling I've had a surprisingly good first day. Roll on tomorrow!

Sea The Stars

I had a bad day but that generally happens on Day 1 as I can never bring myself to back the Walsh/Mullins hotpots on Day One! Been that way the last 3-4 seasons. Have to say I never thought the 4-timer would still be on going to the last in the Mares. The bookies were all and truly stuffed up until that point.

Have to agree Donnellys Hollow - Faugheen could well be a multiple Champion Hurdle winner if he gets fortunate with injuries. It's early to be talking about next year's opposition but Jezki and The New One connections have a conundrum as regards what to do next. Douvan could realistically take the Irish 2m hurdling route allowing Faugheen take in a similar prep to this year.

Looking back at the day - Mullins domination today has got to be as close to perfection as you could have expected. First 2 home in the Supreme, Un De Sceaux so dominant in the Arkle, first 3 home in the Champion Hurdle, Annie Power falls at the last and he still wins with Glens Melody. The only way it could have been better was if Tell Us More or Alvisio Ville came 3rd and 4th in the Supreme and Perfect Gentleman won the 4-miler.

Donnellys Hollow

Douvan looks like a chaser in the making. I would be surprised if he isn't schooled over a few fences before he's put out in the field after Punchestown.

Arctic Fire could well end up being a cup horse on the flat like Simenon who was in the same ownership.
