Last nights result is probably a very good one in terms of league ambitions.  No Europe to distract and now no league cup either - essentially from now until Jan it is league games only while the rest of the challengers are going to be preparing for midweek games and then a day or two for prem league games.  A strong start can now be built on to the point where come the turn of the year top 4 should be a very real possibility.  Just have to look at how Leicester amassed the points in the first half of last season to put them in the position where they could drive on home in the second half.

I always wonder how there aren't many Everton fans in Ireland.
there are a LOT of Everton fans.
they just don't appear out of the woodwork very often.
or wear their full kits around the town

The lack of Irish players probably hampered their support levels in the 90s and 00s.
They have a crap stadium, and lack of success in terms of trophies
They are also probably the least commercialised club in the top half of the premier league, and that matters a lot nowadays

How's that Top 4 finish looking now....

goalie and Seamus looked completely out of their depth today

SHEEDY

Massive win tonight after a poor run of results. The players finally showed a bit of passion and the crowd responded. Thought McCarthy and Coleman were superb but the stand out for me was gueye in midfield, brilliant performance. Not to often Everton get a win over arsenal so it should give confidence going into the derby on Monday.

Thought the fans were magnificent. The noise was brilliant and spooked an easily spooked Arsenal.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

The fans played their part in the final 30 mins but thought they were quiet enough before that.
Was a great battling performance and I see Roy Keane was there to watch it.
We rode our luck I thought at times but there was a lot of raw passion and hard work.

Interesting that Barry wasn't playing and so our midfield with McCarthy and Gana were a lot mobile and didn't allow Arsenal to settle into their passing game. The players looked completely knackered afterwards and that performance alone will give them great confidence going into the derby next Monday. It's a funny old game

It started around the 35th minute. McCarthy made a crunching tackle and the crowd burst into life. Atmosphere electric and partly led to the handbagging in the tunnel at HT.

I was always surprised Koeman took to Barry due to his mobility. A major criticism this last few games has been of workrate which you won't be shy of with mcCarthy about. Apparently he is looking to leave which wouldn't be good for everton.

Dreadful 2nd half performance, offered nothing going forward. Mccarthy was massive miss in 2nd half, Gareth Barry  offers nothing. Always gutting to lose in the last minute, even more so when it's against your lovely neighbours.

brillant result and performance today. tom davies what a player he is, definite motm. pep's heaviest ever defeat as manager.

really good gesture from the club to have little sunderland fan bradley lowery as mascot today. as the motto says 'cancer has no colours'.

Some goal alright, what was Lukaku at trying to steal at?!

johnneycool

Everton seem to have stumbled on a formation that works for them.

Back three of Funes Mori, A Williams and the young lad Holgate, coupled with Baines and Seamy tacking down the wings.

The man/boy of the moment Davis, all action game supplemented the slower legs of Barry yesterday, but you'd see the likes of Gueye being the obvious replacement once he gets back.

Still think Barkley has a bit to do to be a regular further up the park, but was decent yesterday, Lukaku was bothersome and hit the target when the chance arose.

Mighty fortunate not to have conceded the penalty, but Sterlings reputation may have been a factor in the referees mind.

Probably get beat by Palace next day out though!

Fuzzman

Lukaku was just making sure it was going in but if he wanted to have stolen it he would have connected properly.

Everton are having a rather strange season as Koeman has changed quite a lot about how the team play and our personnel. We had 4 shots on target yesterday and scored all 4. Delighted for the new young lads and was surprised Koeman has changed his mind about playing youngsters.

They have beaten both Arsenal and Man City at home now and drew with ManU and Spurs. They were a bit unlucky to lose to Liverpool yet they have lost away to Burnley, Watford and Bournemouth.
Had they have beaten Hull at the end of December then that win yesterday would have been four in a row.

7th is as good as we can hope for I think as I can't see us catching the 6 above us. There are only 5 points between 2nd and 6th and if Costa leaves any of those top 6 could challenge for the title.
I think we need another scoring midfielder as Mirallas hasn't been doing it so far although he looked lively yesterday.
