GAA Discussion / GAA on the TV
June 15, 2017, 07:43:58 PM
I see after the demise of Seo Spoirt Dara O'Cinneide has a new gig starting on RTE this Monday. GAA Nua.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9R1BvzziX0

In fairness it looks good and I think the Kerryman is good TV and should be brought in for more things. One issue I have is that it talks about unrivaled access when the teams let them in during the league and it seems to be much about the new trends in the GAA.

As It stands now Seo Spoirt is gone, I don't see anything about Thank GAA, or a similar preview show either. So on a Friday or Saturday at the height of championship we won't get to see anything on TV??
As I said the new show will be good I am sure, but it's on a Monday and won't have anything in relation to current matches or issues.

Maybe I am out here, but it seems wrong that there is no TV show on a Friday where we hear from players or managers about what is actually happening. That being said the media bans are getting so bad now they probably wouldn't even appear anyway.

Maybe I am the only one that gives a shite but promoting the games THAT weekend would surely be in the interest of the broadcaster.

GAA Discussion / Say nothing! (The meeja!)
May 08, 2017, 08:47:40 PM
Just reading a piece by Mick Moynihan where he listed a recurring theme on how GAA players are not allowed give interviews even at sponsored launches and the likes.
On one hand you say fair enough but the GPA have rates for lads to get a few quid. The extra cash in the player scheme should have come with stipulations on this in my mind.
All the talk of the GAA competing with other sports and the main assets are stowed away and dont say anything ibteresting until they are retired.

This is getting some Twitter action today.

http://www.independent.ie/sport/sports-bodies-face-financial-penalties-unless-30pc-of-their-board-is-female-35286125.html

I just don't see how you enforce it in the case of the GAA. What would you class as the top table ie board of directors?
Most of the positions within the GAA are voluntary so is it not unfair to parachute someone in when another person has given up years to get to a certain level?

GAA Discussion / Club Fuels County
September 14, 2016, 12:45:18 PM
I was on the DART this morning and had to have a little laugh to myself when I saw the poster for AIB 'Club Fuels County' with Aidan O'Shea from Breaffy.
The same club that couldn't play a championship match recently that was three weeks out from a Final.

That is not my issue it is just leading me to ask lads here how often their respective county men actually played for their clubs this year. I know in Kildare there was meant to be an agreement that they would play 6 games in league but it never actually happens.
There tends to be a manager saying 'Yeah they can play' but then there is some other pact within the camp that sees them on the sidelines in tracksuits looking on.

I am just wondering how good/ bad it is in other counties??

Just saw this. Kilkenny lads playing club but in kildare and most counties the real games get shut down for months.
Can't understand why teams don't copy the Kilkenny model

Lads

if you could take a bit of time to give a look at what the students from St Kieran's KK and KK CBS did for the schools final on Sunday.
All work by the students.

God I went away after giving up twice on that other thread!
So down to the game ahead.
I reckon Kildare will need to absolutely play out of their skins and have everything go their way to come out on top. We also need McGeeney to do something he never has - out think a manager with better players at his disposal.
This craic of dropping men back as sweepers will only invite the Dub speedsters onto us so I'd much prefer us pushing and tackling/ cynically fouling  ;) from the front.
Any thoughts? Just about the feckin game here...

GAA Discussion / Club v County
May 07, 2013, 10:02:42 AM
Lads just wondering what is the story in the respective counties re county players being available for the clubs?
Just in Kildare as it stands the championship is on next week and the clubs haven't seen sight nor light of their main men.
At the start of the year there is meant to be a minimum number of league matches that they are available for but we never see them for it.
It's beyond a joke and what annoys me more is that you have the likes of Cody (who you would feel as the natural template for success) making his players go back to their clubs to play.
Just getting ridiculous at the moment. I'd put this up on the KE forum but the Hail Geezer brigade would have me labelled as a 'Geezer Out' merchant, which I'm not.
