Favourite song of all time has to be And a Bang on the Ear by The Waterboys. I grew up with that song in my head. Story goes my owl man went to work in London for a few months when I was a youngster, he came back with a mixed tape with Steve Earle and The Waterboys and various other songs on it, and I used to listen to it flat out. Which I suppose would be true enough, Because I cant remember ever not kowing all the words to that song, if that makes sense. :) Every time I hear that song it makes me think of him. Apparently because I was so young and he had been gone for so long, Ma said when he came back, I nearly didnt know him, and would be scared of him, but when he played this tape and that song in particular, I had a big smile on my face. Im gunna get all emotional here, better stop talkin... :P

don't give up

I like both of them but I hate this song.

fair enough, I never get sick of it because it reminds of a place and time.  It came out in 86, Thatcher's second term as Prime Minister and around the middle of her 3 terms.  I was in final year in college in Belfast, due to graduate with no prospect of work at all and this song summed up the despair at the time.  Times changed and better times came around but I've kids now in a similar position to mine at that time.

I didn't mean anything by that, I just don't particularly like it.

But instead of just criticising I'll put a song up to be knocked:

Was just listening to the Joe Dooley song there. Best GAA song I've heard. Another one i liked was the purple and gold song from Wexford. Joe Mcdonogh's powerful rendition of the west's awake in 1980 also deserves a mention. There have been plenty of dire efforts as well - the worst i ever heard was "Offaly No. 5" to the tune of "Mambo No. 5" back aroound '98 or 2000.
