Quote from: ONeill on May 31, 2024, 11:24:48 PMI don't know much about yer man who accompanies Joe on the podcast, but it must be very frustrating. At the same time, if they're making much money from it, he just bites his lip.

It has got to the stage though that you have a question mark over nearly every story he tells. I heard one recently when he talked about Canavan coming back on v Armagh in 03 and kicking a few more points in the AI Final.

What took you so  long?

And nearly  every story?!

But only if they  actually come on though

Quote from: AustinPowers on May 31, 2024, 06:31:00 PMHow about when a team   comes over the half way line , they have a certain amount  of time to  get a shot off, say 15/20 seconds

It would  cut out all this  sideways and backwards handpasses , and basically teams pissing about  with the ball , and getting  nowhere. While the rest  of us lose the will to live

Defending team gets their 15 men behind the ball and keeps the attacking team out for the 15/20 seconds and they get the ball back. Repeat for 70 minutes.

Sure that's what  is currently happening anyway. Only  slower.

Quote from: Brendan on May 30, 2024, 07:56:17 PMTrying to pin the blame on Jeffrey and distance himself from it maybe?

Is Robinson not just as guilty as Jeffrey?  He stood there with  Jeffrey when he sold his  big lie, and said nothing.

So, big Jeffrey  was lying back in January about the Irish Sea border  being removed (as  anyone with  half a brain cell knew)

Robinson yesterday confirmed  this.

I 'm not sure why they  would  admit  this with an election coming? Surely this will  send many  of their  voters to the TUV (or other parties)?

Not only that , but Robinson stood with Jeffrey in January knowing what he was  saying was a lie.  Can unionist voters trust a word he (or the DUP) says again?

Is this the end of the DUP?

Quote from: general_lee on May 30, 2024, 03:42:43 PMIt's a complete racket. I'm reluctant to ever actually claim off my insurance (touch wood, I've never had to in 20 years driving)

You're as well just lying to them to try and keep the premium down(car stored in garage, parked securely at work, only 3k miles a year). It's not like you won't get shafted anyway if you're honest and actually need to make a claim.

Apparently reducing  the annual  mileage thing  doesn't make any  real difference to the cost .

I dont even  know why they ask you your annual mileage  , because they can  find out how much you did  between  MOT's. It's all online

Risk - the more miles you do, the greater the chance you will be in an accident.

Yeah I understand that , but  a few years back I changed jobs.  I had kept the same mileage (around 15k)  , but went through the details the following year, and asked them to reduce it to about  to 5-6k , as I was doing a lot less miles. The  insurer said the cost was the same

On the other hand.... A cousin of mine  used to  do a night or two  of  pizza runs (unofficially)  and  I asked him if his  insurance company ever said anything  about his extra  mileage.  On his policy he  said  about 7-8k and he was doing 20k plus.  Nothing was  ever mentioned.

So , do insurance companies really check  your annual mileage?

Quote from: NotedObserver on May 24, 2024, 11:40:24 AMOasis an easy band to criticise but how they delivered their music was normal to alot of people and connected. A lot of songs that bring back good and bad memories for many including myself. Different band members throughout the years but Oasis and their music would be nothing without the 2 brothers. Top band

Oasis would have  been nothing without Noel.

This should probably be  in the WTF /grind my gears thread.... but on  a side issue , what is it with British  people pronouncing it 'Gall-ig-ger'?

Well, there's no point in  Brolly attacking  Mickey Joe down  the road who coaches the u-12's. That won't  cause any controversy and get people  talking about  him.

Brolly knows  what he's doing.  He's like  a  spoilt child constantly seeking attention.  He's actually  become  a bit pathetic to be honest.
He's getting worse. You'd question why. It's not like he needs the publicity or anything to make a living, he's just losing peoples respect at this stage.

He doesn't need the  publicity to make a  living. He just needs the  publicity.

Quote from: Sportacus on May 28, 2024, 02:43:19 PMYou can talk about structures all day, but the coaching tactics are so god awful that you'll be very lucky to see a good game. May as well tune in for the semifinal and final.  Most of the rest of the games are just cat and mouse nonsense.

Tyrone Donegal was a joy to watch I though.

Cant but admire the conditioning of the Donegal players.

Whilst there are some terrible games, we love to jump on the bandwagon of criticizing Gaelic football without looking at each game individually.

I've seen some brilliant games this year personally, and some terrible ones as with any sport; but there's definitely been more games I've watched where I've came away thinking that was an enjoyable  watch.
That's good, I'm genuinely glad to hear it. I'm sure Louth supporters enjoyed their day as well, and so on.  But there is so much dross, all caused by the coaching, nothing wrong with the rules. Two good semifinals and final in front of a packed Croke Park will end the season well hopefully. But there has to be some reflection on the overall entertainment value of the sport.  It's dying a death in my opinion.

Difficult to disagree with any of that

Next thing ye'll want Ulster winners to go straight to the Final ::)

But I didn't  say Connacht winners had to play  an extra couple of games

One extra maybe  ;D

Quote from: full moon on May 28, 2024, 11:48:24 AMThe fall in attendances are actually incredible in the past 5-10 years, there are too many matches with nothing on the line at high prices in an inflation/cost of living crisis.

So many big staidums now and they forgot to keep the supporters onside

What is needed is competition. Someone noted that Celtic park in Derry had been hardly used for years and this year it has had 3 full house games. The Leinster championship is not getting the crowds of 30 years ago because there is zero chance of a Dublin-Meath game going to extra time. As for inflation, I doubt if prices are any higher than ever they were and most people have no problem paying for them if they are interested, look at the crowds in the Munster hurling or the quarter of a million people who paid out €150 a go for Bruce Springsteen.

Perhaps the price isnt too bad but it's the condensed format that goes along with the price. Big costs for families every week or fortnight is not sustainable for many.

As much as I love the Ulster championship, it is now clear that the provincials have to go.

I think the provincials need seeded.  Ulster is  the most competitive so the winners should progress  a round further in the championship  after they win it.

Munster/Leinster  winners should have to play  another game or two to get to the same stage as  Ulster winners.  If those championships  become competitive again , re-evaluate the seeding

In the Ulster final , practically 15 players  formed a defensive wall, within 40-50 yards of their goal.  In such a condensed space, with so many bodies , opponents  still managed to score freely , yet I don't think there was one block in  the  whole game.

Yes, the scoring accuracy  was  unusually high that day,  but what's the point in pulling everyone back to form a  defensive wall ,  when they couldn't stop their opponents scoring?
