Quote from: marty34 on March 16, 2024, 08:05:18 PMDouble bounce by young Canavan there I think.

Some talent.
he only had about 10 steps for one of his points too.

However, he's a serious player. On fire tonight - he'll do damage in the championship

At the best of times it's tough to mark Canavan. But when he's allowed up to ten steps in every play - your fighting a losing battle.

Quote from: AustinPowers on March 16, 2024, 07:44:33 PMYawn!

Man City into the semi finals yet again  , and  on course for another treble.

Is it just  me or is City's continued dominance  really boring?

Was it as boring for non-United fans when  United were  dominating in the 90's and 00's? I can't  imagine it was

The media are in switch off in regard to talking about a Treble. Any other club at it would be the talk. There is no drama, no adversity, no story with Man City. They're just a product of Sports washing.

If Liverpool did not win the League in 19/20, City would be going for 7 in a row titles this year.

United won Premier League in (1996/97) with 75 points - Newcastle Arsenal and Liverpool were joint 2nd with 68 points.

Relieved that Arsenal won their game last night - that's two extra games.
The quarter-final will be played across two legs on April 9/10 and April 16/17.
Arsenal play Villa on the 13th April. That will be a intense week for them.

Between 1955 and 1981 Mayo won only two Connacht Championships. There was no visit for Mayo to Croke Park in the Championship in the 70's. You presume immigration had a big say in this. Then again Roscommon and Galway would also have been affected.

Quote from: JoG2 on March 11, 2024, 06:43:54 PMYes, paid professional soccer players / clubs. Do the 4 professional rugby clubs pull in bigger crowds the the entire LOI combined?

To measure like with like you'd have to exclude Ulster!

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on March 10, 2024, 05:45:29 PMBoring,? U watch much soccer?

yes. It is boring but less boring than rugby union

Rugby is a game based primarily on physical strength and brute force. There can't be many sports where the level of technical skill required is much lesser than rugby. Massive amounts of hype, sponsorship and clever marketing shouldn't cover up that fact. The reality is that for an awful lot of supporters it's just about the big occasion rather than the actual game itself. Otherwise the game would be flourishing at club level. I'd say the majority of people tuning in for the big internationals watch very little, if any rugby in between.

Soccer can be boring but the balance is much more towards technical ability rather than physical attributes.

Is that phenomenon really unique to rugby in Ireland? What percentage of Irish soccer viewers are making their way to Oriel, the Brandywell, or the Showgrounds of a Friday evening?

There was over 3,500 in attendance at the Showgrounds on Saturday. A decent crowd! People from all over the north west in local soccer club jackets, jerseys etc. Soccer is growing a phenomenal level. And attendances in the domestic game are up year on year.

Mayo FC is up and running and it is hoped they will play in the League of Ireland in years to come.

Quote from: weareros on March 09, 2024, 03:50:46 PMYou'd have thought removing these two backward Eamon DeValera clause in the Irish constitution (family is founded on marriage, a woman's duty is in the home) would have been an easy win for the Irish government. Had the vote been held between 1993-2008, it would have easily passed. The mood has now shifted and it's not unlike Brexit or Trump's America where the people want a fantasy country back from the forces of liberal elite, media, WEF, EU, immigrants, whatever you're having yourself. Watch Brexiters in UK, Unionists, right wingers, Catholic Church cheer this result.

This is where you have it wrong - Brexit and Trump was a vote for change.

This was a vote for holding onto what we have.

Quote from: From the Bunker on March 04, 2024, 11:11:39 AMI'm a bit lost in this Casement Park debacle.

The GAA are paying £15m toward a £300m Stadium.

Soccer will be played there in the Euros.

The GAA then get it all to themselves for Games, Concerts, Conferences, etc

GAA get all the revenue?

Where exactly are you lost?

Where I am lost is that the wider community are paying the Bill for this yet the GAA hold the Keys and reap the profits, while basically getting a new stadium all to themselves.
I thought this stadium was for all the community? That it would be ran by an Independent Management Company.
Sure you cant expect the Soccer or to a lesser extent Rugby to be comfortable under such an arrangement?

Soccer and rugby got their grounds redeveloped (albeit at a lower price) and they are getting the benefit of that revenue. Similarly they have got the benefit of long term funding over the gaa. Soccer in particular has benefited from hundreds of council funded pitches. It will also benefit from the Euro's being played there - serious opportunity for exposure for the game locally.

As noted already on the thread the local community will benefit from the stadium through money spent in the area both in terms of match days and concerts etc. There'd be serious money generated in the city from major concerts.

So there won't be any Soccer (other than the Euros) or Rugby played there.

Quote from: trailer on March 04, 2024, 12:42:54 PMIt' sickening and sickening to watch helplessly. Cannot for the life of me understand why other nations in the ME are standing doing nothing. Especially Egypt. Surely evacuating women and children would be an easy start.

In years to come people will look and ask why countries did nothing...

Egypt taking in refugees is what Israel wants. That would be even tidier than genocide in removing Palestinians. Women and children removed would see a bigger massacre of left behind Men. Who would be labelled as Hamas. Media/society never pity a massacre of men.

No mention of the row on TSG. Did Peter Harte get injured in the row?

Row?

A bit of pulling and dragging FFS.

a few gapey necked jerseys was the worse thing to come out of that.

If it wasn't a Row? Then why did 3 players get booked? And why did Clifford the instigator not get booked?

Quote from: tonto1888 on March 03, 2024, 07:48:09 PMI don't think it was obvious but can accept it being given. I just want consistency in that regards and there hasn't been.

This is Celtic in a Scottish League, there will never be consistency. With Celtic's popularity, fanbase and money - Referee decision is the least of our worries. Board needs to be ambitious and adventurous.
