GAA Discussion / John Horan
November 24, 2019, 08:27:22 PM
As he comes to the end of his second year in charge, he has achieved his main goal, which was to introduce a Second Tier championship.  He is also reviewing the fixtures.  Was there anything else he should have been doing?

The Club Players Association have pulled out of the #GAA fixtures task force, citing a loss of faith with the process. Has anyone any strong opinions on this?

GAA Discussion / Underage Grades
November 10, 2019, 08:13:24 PM
Bit of a mess, if you ask me.  Anyone following this?  GAA trying to get all counties to follow the under 11,13,15,17 rule.  After that it's up to each county.  Under 19, 20 or 21.  But this was supposed to be what the Special Congress was for...

Launched yesterday.  What do you think.  I really like it.  Think it sums us up well to those who don't know us.

Just wondering what you think of this guy. Some of his podcasts are really brilliant. Comes across as really intelligent, but what's with the plastic bag over the face etc?  Anyone know anything about him at all?  Seems to talk some really socio economic sense.

Ten members (Cora included) have walked out of the squad citing 'personal differences'. No statement from either side.

GAA Discussion / Derry are now in Division 4
March 25, 2018, 08:10:40 PM
Would you ever have believed it?  Some serious soul searching needs done in that county over the next few months.  Where are all the players who refused to commit?  Why is there STILL no real proper strategy to develop the game in Derry city?  How come a club with three or four of the best clubs in Ulster, can end up in Division 4?  And all these clubs were there when they were winning the All Ireland and Ulsters, so the attitude can't have changer THAT much.  And if it has, well why has it? .  How come a county with two of the top Ulster schools for MacRory (champions three out of the last 4 years) be in Division 4?  Derry are in Division 4.  Jut say that slowly...,  Seamus Heaney, Martin McGuinness, Dana, John Hume, Anthony Tohill, Derry Girls, Nadine Coyle, that Aileen girl from the Graham Norton Big Red Chair, Gregory Campbell - Your county is in Division 4!!

Cork Ladies. Finally beaten this evening by Mayo who were inspired by Cora. What a team. What a record. Such ambassadors the lot of them. Many of them dual players - their whole lives dedicated to Gaelic games. I'm sounding patronising now, but Jesus, what a group of athletes.

I can add nothing to this. Nothing. He has refused to retract.

Tonight's meeting of Belfast City Council voted on the following motion;

"This Council is opposed to rogue bonfires where they present a threat to life, to property, to the environment, where they cause damage to public amenities and where they facilitate hate crime activities.

"On the basis of these concerns this Council gives permission to our Council officers to remove bonfire materials or employ contractors to facilitate the removal of bonfire materials from Council sites and other sites which belong to Statutory Agencies and those which are in private ownership.

Of course, the unionist parties voted against.  No strategy, leadership, charisma or sense.  But incredibly, and this utterly defies explanation by any raitonal human being, the Green Party which exists apparently to help us to improve the invironment, voted AGAINST! This motion. I mean. WTF?  WHat the hell is going on with this party?  Please, someone explain this to me. It just makes no sense that a party of the environment could not support a motion that would seek to eradicate rogue bonfires which burn tyres, aerosols etc etc. Just totally defies explanation.

http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/politics/anger-over-arlene-fosters-disgraceful-sexist-description-of-sinn-feins-michelle-oneill-35713118.html

Her political equal, the person with whom she is supposed to be working towards sharing power, the person who put out her hand at the funeral of Martin McGuinness for her to shake, the leader of Nationalism and Republicanism in the six counties.

She is asked to describe her in one word.

'Blonde'.

For any of you 26 county people trying to get a handle on us up here, just remember this one.  Put it along with her calling of Irish speakers 'crocodiles', the fact that she is the leader of a party that is homophobic, believes the world to be 5000 years old, lives in a constituency that is already on the periphery because of its border location and stands to lose catastrophically due to Brexit, yet she still voted for it...

Worse than the worst days of GUBU.

Just wondering what your thoughts are here.  GB Secretary of State should be neutral on the national question.  I'm sure they stand for other national anthems in what they consider their own territory, so why not ours?
This was at the McKenna Cup Final Saturday night which he attended.  The first ever SoS to attend a GAA match...

Interesting contest and decision. Will he ever be Prime Minister?
