Also at the minute we dont need to be debating potential managers. Id hope Gleeson in the next week or so would commit(along with all the players) to at least another year.

Quote from: johnnycool on May 29, 2024, 10:27:03 AMIf you are going to give it to someone, internally or not, you just can't go lumping someone else in with them just to suit a certain perceived bias or balance, i.e. Horse with someone from the city!

Whoever you give it to needs to live and die on their own sword and let them bring in whoever they need or want as in the end it's them that will have to work with the whole team, coaches and all.
Yes this whole country/city mix is weird. They are all (potentially!) from Antrim and should be the best people for the job. I remember reading people saying that an outsider like Gleeson was a *better* option has he came with no bias! At county level you'd like to think the management team are picking the best available panel!

I think they 100% will be picking the best side. Its more from the supporters who youd be hearing the bias from. Also rules out the possibility of players thinking this but that is down to themselves and if they are prepared to look in the mirror or not

Theres plenty of antrim men around ulster counties but that doesnt mean they are up to the standard we probably require. A lot of these "county managers/coaches" have done very little at club level in antrim

Quote from: JonnyD_ on May 28, 2024, 10:45:28 AMdont think he's done enough - took Slaughtneil for 6 weeks of the year after they got put out of football? and Tyrone? hardly a tier 1 manager.

And Gleeson's CV was?

Was he not backroom before manager? obviously impressed. Dont think mcshane would be a good move

Its clear every interview how much respect Gleeson has(two way thing)
I think outside is the only way, long term i think our goal is just maintain Div 1 and Senior champ. This chat of Leinster finals etc. Weve a lot of good years left in our top performers, we need a conveyor belt of talent coming to support them. Easier said than done

There are probably a lot of fellas in the county of senior club level but not at a county level s&c wise. Decky McCloskey for example

Dublin was a poor one. But it was really a last 15 mins meltdown for whatever reason. Dublin are a very good side in saying that and a good bit ahead. We're going to need some of these younger lads really putting the hand up next year saying im ready to go here, but at the minute physically not senior intercounty level

From the doom and gloom about whos missing and injuries etc i think weve turned the season around well. With that amount missing im sure morale and training sessions dipped. But theyve dug out 2 wins and looked very good v galway until a couple of howlers from the officials. We got the rub of the green yesterday though. Id love Gleeson to go again

Quote from: asaffgael on May 24, 2024, 09:08:51 AMSo why would you want to win the relegation semi final?

To play in a relegation final that if you lose you get relegated?

Quote from: NorthAntrim on May 21, 2024, 12:23:57 PMYes, they are competing very well. Shouldve been in place years ago

But failing to field in the reserve league as a result.

Hence my reference to everyone working together to get a joined up solution.

Loughgiel are probably the best blessed numbers wise. They have entered Div 2 as a result of limited games in res leagues over the years with (im guessing) other teams letting them down. The stronger reserve teams should play all county leagues in my opinion. The weaker play in the divisional leagues, north and south antrim and scrap these Reserve leagues

Don't disagree with your reasoning.

But then you get into a debate about whether they should play their D2 fixtures or their reserve fixtures when there is a clash and this results in other teams being let down.

I think a collective approach is required to sort this issue out.

Its probably a fixtures issue more than anything. ACHL on a sunday and reserve games on a monday. Do they need to be in both? Possibly not but then that affects the rest, lower number of teams if they dont enter. They also play NAJHL mainly on a thursday night

At the same time not too many teams can maybe get 20 lads out on a Sunday at the same time and different venues so Monday night only option for them. I dont think there is a right answer to be honest

Obviously the ref has either viewed it deliberate or accidental with excess force?
