Criostoir Davey,Kevin McDonnell, Cian Breheny would be a few Sligo seniors that will line out for their U-21s on Wedneday i can imagine then all the Henrys Cathal,Kevin,Liam,Stephen who are all good footballers.  Sligo have given us good competitive games at both minor,U21 the last two years and i would expect more of the same in Kiltoom. Hopefully weatherwise its a good night for football & of course we win.

A worthwhile trip to Newbridge in what was total shootout where we had the better gunslingers.  St Conleth's Park a good compact ground narrow pitch with atmosphere as good as any league venue but unfortunately for the locals it has become a happy hunting ground for all the visiting teams in div 2 this year.

They say you learn more in defeat & in the evidence of yesterdays performance we learnt plenty from our fruitless trip to O Moore park. The goals we gave away in the first half yesterday would have floored many teams but our lads showed great character in their play never panicked & took their scores. Second half was a superb display from both the players and management however the butt of the post saved us on one of Kildares breakaway chances a goal scored then could have been a turning point but it was a bit of luck we deserved especially the luck that went against us on the second Kildare goal. A bizarre ending to the game though it didn't make much difference to the result and the best side on the day won.

Must say i'm enjoying our visit back to Division 2 football, much better than our last visit & i wouldn't mind sticking around for another year at least. THB its probably the best place for young panel to develop and improve further as a group though i suppose we'll see where the next three games will take us.

Cavan and Ros on the other hand were real D3 teams.
A little soon to coming to the conclusion Rossfan. Will know for sure on April 5th i suppose. Must remember both ourselves & Cavan were promoted after just 5 games last year the step up to Div 2 as expected much tougher.

Was at the game in Old Trafford Monday night. United played a good tempo & high pressing game in the 1st half & if one side deserved to be leading at the break it was United. The opening goal was schoolboy defending where three United lads were drawn in to the centre while Monreal was allowed to drift in unmarked.

2nd half was slow ponderous stuff thanks in no small part some strange substitutions. Very stop start error ridden stuff. In the end a finely balanced game was decided on a mistake a lapse in concentration by Valencia TBH i would prefer if it was a moment of skill or brilliance than losing like that though it just had to be Welbeck hadn't it. If it didn't happen a replay would probably be needed to separate the sides & of course Uniteds chances of comeback wasn't helped by a foolish sending off.

So the wait goes on for FA cup win & its been a long time since United have gone back to back seasons without a trophy something after decades of success takes a while to get use to but hopefully that drought will be ended next season.

P.S Arsenal supporters were chanting Welbeck a little bit sh*t before he scored while a small minority of United fans did boo Welbeck after he scored because they felt he shouldn't have celebrated the goal against his former club. I suppose that is soccer supporters for you.

Back to the drawing board for us at the least the nonsense talk of promotion will be ended as staying up was always or main target. The worst we played in the league since Fermanagh away 2 years ago if we produce a similar performance in our remaining 4 games we will lose all of them. In truth you simply can't defend as poorly at this level & won't win many games with 2-17 (23) conceded. Credit to Laois though well up for the game today & the 4 week break seem to work wonders for them on todays viewing they won't be in a relegation battle come round 7.

A good LVG interview a few minutes ago, especially where he pointed out how the British media continue to twist is words.

Away wins rare for United this season (too many draws) maybe that win tonight will be a huge 3 points by the end of the season. After the game on BT sports Steve McManaman looked so disappointed with the Man United win while the bitterness of Robbie Savage been released as United youth player remains raw.

On another note hard to believe it 19 years to the night since this famous win.

Nothing wrong with a little banter but the same so called jokes & bullshit posts plus Mayo lads pretending to be Ros posters all needs to be blocked. Rudi,Ringfort,Shrewdness there is a ignore user feature on this forum that works a treat.

As for the game itself 2 changes max from the win against Down i would expect, last i heard Carty was rated doubtful. Last div 2 league meeting between us was a draw (2008 Kiltoom) We are due a win over Meath hopefully Sunday is the day that it arrives.

The grins are for your usual paranoia. You blamed Mayo and Galway for some imaginary skullduggery when the reality is the skullduggery was elsewhere and benefited Roscommon.

'Sligo will always go for the logical vote'.

They did. But something happened their delegate and he voted against the wishes of his CB. That is what I would like to have seen investigated, thoroughly.
Why having a touch of the paranoia yourself? & to repeat why would Galway vote to give their near and dearest rivals home advantage for all Connacht finals.

;D ;D ;D ;D

That is an interesting twist to that particular story.

3 of the 5 Connacht CBs decided it would be Castlebar: Galway, Mayo and Sligo. The Sligo delegate at the meeting then bizarrely voted for Roscommon, against his mandate from the Sligo CB. Seeing as one or other of Galway and Mayo appear in the vast majority of Connacht Finals they gave that 'vote' the two fingers and maintained their home and away arrangement, thus scuppering The Hyde's miraculous elevation to Provincial Ground status.

I would like to have seen an independent investigation into that 'vote'.

Not sure what all the grins are for? as i said ye and Galway had other ideas. Sligo will always go for the logical vote. If i were to investigation a vote it would be Galway as why would they give their near and dearest rivals home advantage for all Connacht finals.

To be fair, that is poor form from the business' point of view. I'd say 99% of Mayo people wanted ye to win that replay, I know I certainly did anyway, and I was even cheering ye on in the drawn final too. It's a pity that people can be so narrow minded, especially when young gasúrs couldn't be supported.
Very poor form indeed. I'll always remember the night after the 2006 All Ireland final Mayo men and women coming up to me in Quinns,Flannerys,Coppers & wishing our minors all the best in the replay so some decent Mayo supporters also.

10 million is the price although im not sure why gaa have to pay. The rossies got more or less private loans to get them out of trouble 10 years ago. We paid all that back in spades. Biggest achievement being our underage system.best bar none( mayb dubs in fairness). This return will bring roscommon to the holy grail by 2020. Now that will be money well spent. Rossie for life, heart and soul
did ye win the under 21 all Ireland recently ?
the board can only stomach so much rossie hyperbole and Syf was here first

Seafoid no ye/we from him as he is Mayo man. I have him with his many usernames blocked & i wouldn't have seen that post if you didn't quote it.

Out of interest how much is the Mayo debt at the moment? I'm wondering as we are likely to have a huge burden of debt ourselves once the redevelopment work on the Hyde & training centre in Oran is done, hopefully the GAA will be as generous in the per annum payments.

In '84 (I think) the Ross CC applied to let a junior club be set up in the parish but again the appeal was turned down.
You lads here gripe about Galway and Leitrim doing the dirt and siding with Mayo while your staunch ally, Sligo, did the right thing. Maybe the fact that Roscommon and Sligo were having talks at the time about Sligo moving their championship games to the Hyde might have something to do with it. (I think it was because of structural alterations to Marky Park but I'm not 100% sure.)
Was the early 90s & St Johns is what the club was to be called. The deciding vote came down to Leitrim and their county senior manager at the time was John O'Mahony hmm..

St Johns would be over 20 years old now would be interesting to see what level they would be playing in Ros now and how Ballagh club would fare with less of a pick in Mayo.

Hyde park was redeveloped in the early 90s with the promise to be Clones of Connacht e.g host all Connacht finals but both Galway,Mayo GAA had other ideas once the work was completed.

Has there ever been a Ballaghadreen manager of Roscommon, or Mayo? :D
From what i recall Sean Kilbride was part of Dermot Earleys Ros management team in the mid 90s.

Quote from: muppet on February 24, 2015, 02:13:22 PM

John O'Mahony is from Kilmovee which is in Co. Mayo now, was in Co. Mayo 1898 and always played its football in Mayo. As far as I am aware, he didn't harbour a secret desire to play for the Rossie Globebussers.
Yes Johno is a Mayo/Kilmovee man though he was educated in Roscommon, worked and is still living there i think.

Roscommon: John Maughan, Evans, Tommy Carr
You left out the one that won us a Connacht title, John Tobin Galway.

John Evans restored our faith that outside managers weren't all tools. And he was the one D. Brady called a mercenary too.
Brady has come out with some silly comments over the years like the one about the O'Sheas knowing their own games so well that they even sleep together.

Could say Carr,Maughan were more physical/fitness trainers than managers and they didn't even succeed with that as as we weren't very fit. We were established div 1 team before Carr arrived he left us in div 3 recommended Maughan in 05 & the scars of those two appointments still remain to this day.

Liverpool will choke again when the chips are down, just like they did last season.Wouldnt be surprised if Besiktas dumped them out of Europa League this week too.

In fairness Spurs have a phenomenal record of fecking up finishing 4th and normally from great positions.  If Besiktas dump Liverpool out of Europe then that is bad news for Spurs/Man u. As a Spurs/Man U fan one would be wishing for Liverpool to go a couple more rounds of the competition and add to burn out!

Regardless of the Europa league one would have to fancy Pool to finish 4th at least now.  Lets be honest Pool have hit similar form to this time last year, 70 points will probably be enough for CL football which pool should be capable of getting that after getting 84 points last season. United on the other hand are pack of individuals that aren't performing to their ability & little evidence of a team. looking at Uniteds remaining fixtures they probably finish on mid 60 points, Spurs will finish in 6th or 7th i reckon.
