Its going to be a lot of upheaval in this Liverpool team initially. Could take a couple of months for everything to gel, so I wouldn't expect a title challenge. But if the remaining recruitment is good, there's no reason why they shouldn't get back into the top 4 and show in the second half of the season that they will be ready to seriously challenge City the following year.

Fair old bit of upheaval to the City midfield as well, it depends on how Arsenal get up and running as they seem to be spending well other than Havertz who I'm not convinced about

Havertz was poor at Chelsea but thy were a shambles and was continually played out of position.  His style of play will suit Arsenal expect to see a much improved version.

Yeah, but you still have that core of DeBruyne, Grealish, Foden, Rodri, even latterly Stones.

Yeah, but you still have that core of DeBruyne, Grealish, Foden, Rodri, even latterly Stones.

Those 3 stroked out offered Liverpool nothing in midfield, bit part would be too kind an expression and even Milner who at 40+ (    ) probably was used to get key players a bit of a rest.

We have bid £35m + £5m addons for Southampton's 19 year old Belgian defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia, but Southampton have turned it down saying their price tag is £50m. Can't say I noticed him at all last season.

You'd normally think that's close enough to get a deal done, but it seems Fabinho's £40m move to Saudi is becoming doubtful and he's to join up with Liverpool's pre season preparations. Apparently a blocker to the move is that Fabinho can't get a guarantee that he can get his two French bulldogs into Saudi! If that falls through I wonder will that scupper our bid for Lavia?

I also read that when Soton bought Lavia from City for 10.5m + 2.5m addons, City have a 20% sell on clause and they have first refusal if Soton sell. No sign so far of City showing interest, but that could change quickly.

Trent has played both pre-season games in midfield, so that positional switch could well be permanent. Not sure we've a good enough right back now though. Bradley has more development to get through. I would like to see Kostas tried there. With Trent and McAllister in midfield, less pressure on the right back to be a creator.

Don't see Kostas at right back being a runner.  Can't think of too many left footed right backs and he is very one sided.  Castagne at Leicester might be a budget solution in this area and can play on both sides. If Lavia gets done as well would be good to have a fellow countryman in the changing room also.

If Fabinho goes Liverpool would need to bring in 2 more midfielders - an experienced defensive midfielder, a specialist in that role who can slot right in and a younger signing like a Lavia. Wouldn't want to be relying on a 19 year old.

Wonder what the plans for Bajetic are this year. He is not a true 6 like Fabinho, Rodri etc which is what Liverpool need. I think last year proved just how important this role is, Liverpool form fell of a cliff when Fabinho did not perform.

Agree about pinning all your hopes on a 19 year old, especially with the track record with injuries under Klopps system.

He'll trot of to Saudi Arabia and be forgotten about. In 5 to 10 years he'll be trotting back to Anfield to play in Legends games and no one will care or know what he though about anything.

Fabinho confirmed as gone.

The lack of a replacement is really worrying at this stage.  Five senior midfielders out replaced by two is not going to compete.  City are City, Arsenal have went big this summer, Chelsea will be better and United should improve again. 

Would also say that another defender would be required. 

The plus side of pre season to date is that all the lads up top seem to be moving well, so goals shouldn't be a problem the issue seems to be keeping them out.
