Wexford & Westmeath Win In EirGrid U-21 FC
(22 Feb 2017)

First round wins in the EirGrid Leinster G.A.A. Under 21 Football Championship were celebrated this evening by Westmeath and Wexford.
Westmeath defeated Meath by 2-8 to 0-12 at Lakepoint Park, Mullingar, with the goals scored by Ronan O'Toole (penalty) and Boidu Sayeh.

Meath led by 0-7 to 1-3 at half time and were three points up midway through the second half. But they suffered a setback when reduced to 14 players and Sayeh's late strike sent the Lake County through to a quarter-final against Dublin next Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, Wexford enjoyed a comfortable 1-18 to 0-8 win over Carlow at Netwatch Cullen Park. Ahead by 0-10 to 0-5 at the interval, they easily progressed to a quarter-final meeting with Offaly, with Mikey Dwyer scoring the game's only goal.

The other first round fixture schedule for this evening, Wicklow v Louth, could not proceed due to an unplayable pitch at Baltinglass.

Meaney and Lillis add to Laois injury woes ahead of clash with Tipperary
Experienced duo added to lengthy list of absentees

21 Feb 2017

Laois senior footballers have been dealt yet more misfortune on the injury front as both Kevin Meaney and Kieran Lillis look set to miss this Saturday's game against Tipperary in O'Moore Park.
Meaney picked up an injury in the loss to Armagh last weekend, and it has not responded to treatment as well as was hoped. Kieran Lillis suffered a hamstring injury in training last week, and he too looks set to miss the game with Tipp.
They join an ever-increasing list of absentees for manager Peter Creedon. The Cork man revealed to the Leinster Express yesterday that Brendan Quigley was still six weeks away from action, with John O'Loughlin 'touch and go' to feature this weekend. The game against Sligo in Round 4 is more likely to see his return.

Gary Walsh, who missed the Armagh game with a hamstring injury, will hopefully be part of the panel for Saturday night, while Evan O'Carroll could also make the subs bench, after he played for Crettyard Gaels in the Kelly Cup over the weekend.
Damien O'Connor has also returned to training after his collar bone injury, but he has not yet been cleared to take part in any contact sessions. Mark Timmons also remains on the long-term injury list after hip surgery.

Laois will be looking to carry the good form shown in the closing stages of the win over Armagh into this Saturday's clash with Tipperary. Division 3 is already shaping up to be as tight as everyone expected, with just two points separating Sligo in second with Armagh in seventh.
Throw in this Saturday night is at 7pm, with the game also live on Eir Sport.

Great day, to win the league from operating in Div3 was some achievement. It was the first day I saw grown men cry in Croke Park, I was a young man then but still couldn't hold back the tears.
Oh for a few more days like that....

Great new topic. Cheers for sharing

Snatched a draw off Offaly in O'Moore Park, thank you Mick Lawlor for banging that goal in late on to force a replay. Won the replay in O'Connor Park

And here is that replay...

I only ever cried twice at a football match, '86 when I stood in the Cusack stand beside my father in law and saw tears in his eyes when we won the league
and the second time was that great day, boy did the tears flow straight from my heart and out through my eyes when he lifted the cup.

Thank god I lived to see that day and hopefully I'll see at least one more before I go....

Terrible result for Killeen, I know they were short the Kingston's but they should be able to put up more than 3 scores in 70 mins.. What's going on there ???
