Messages - Derryman forever

#1
Quote from: Milltown Row2 on May 03, 2024, 11:16:42 PMI used to take my dad away for weekends every so often, headed to Derry one time, was a late Saturday afternoon and heading into town, at the corner of the street when pulling into town, the Lundy burning was happening in a street we passed, I said to the taxi man was it a bit controversial, he didn't give it a second and said, no one is bothered, let them at it and soon enough it'll disappear.

That's gotta happen, kids will eventually go "WTF" and it will die a death

Was refreshing (at the time) to hear.

If only we'd known you were in Derry. We'd a bought you a pint or two

And as Joe (rightly and constantly) bemoans the likes of Trump, the Tories, Israeli gov't etc for getting the lie out first, because that's the message that'll stick more the actual truth, he does the very same re the GAA.

Even our red hand neighbours would love to see us win Sam the year to see the hooer squirm, yes? Surely  ???

Ah here now!

Quote from: Derryman forever on May 03, 2024, 12:42:26 PMIts not that Dublin are producing better footballers, its just that given their volume of participation in Football they are producing many many more of them
Look to Kerry Galway Tyrone Mayo and Derry.
They have plenty of  footballers equal to or better than many Dublin players.
They simply don't have the numbers to cover for injury and rest.
They don't have the luxury of bringing on a Jack mc Caffrey or  Michael Darragh for the last 20.

Dublin compared to any of the others have the quality players to pick two teams from.
None of the other counties do.

So, is it a numbers game or a money game?
Well both.
If you are given funds to develop the game you can coach 20 players for the same amount as 10.
I heard on the RTE podcast that Dublin spent approx 7 million on their seniors last year.
The nearest to this was Cork.
6.2 million I think.
However 40 percent of Corks was on travelling expenses alone.

Ok so why are Dublins hurlers not doing what Limerick are doing with their money and less numbers that Dublin?

People make choices.
 :)
choose which sport to play,

Choices.
Kids choose which sport to play.
Adults choose which sport to support and committees choose where to spend money.

I am left wondering about who prepared these lads or " didnt" in game management.

Derry were the authors of their own defeat.

Quote from: screenexile on May 01, 2024, 08:52:42 PMShould have won that but what a great game!!

Also have to say I think the ref has been brilliant.

Yes the Ref has been excellent.

What did the linesman tell him when he seemed about to book the defender?

I think he wasn't sure who to book as it was a 'double' tackle.

Maybe he asked lineman which player was it but I'd say linesman wasn't sure either.

Little bit more editing to do there.

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on April 29, 2024, 05:10:39 PMSee Jude McAtammey [Derry) got picked up by the New York Giants. He was one of the better players of their 2018 U20 team, Went straight out and tried the NFL route through University football scholarship.

As a kicker?

We could use a good kicker.

Quote from: seafoid on April 28, 2024, 09:28:22 PMWhy is the final between the 2 d2 teams? Hmmmn.

Because this is Ulster, where every team in the province has contested the final at least once  in the last twenty years.
Every game is a lottery.
Its why it the best championship in the land.
You might have a point but there's no need to tell lies.

There appear to be no certainties so if not a lottery its certainly unpredictable.
