If there are prominent retirements after this on the armagh side, what a dissapointing way to go out. Armagh may have failed to deliver on the promise of 2002. half a decade of trying and failing on the big stage (with the exception of the ulster championship dominance). Football will be the loser when alot of those guys take their final bow. Was this it?

Superb result for sligo. Can imagine workplaces might be light on staff tomorrow!

GAA Discussion / Re: Mark Harte

Mark was plenty good to play for tyrone. I think his leaving was a mixture of his lightness causing him trouble at intercounty level (now in the age of so much weight training) and the abuse that his father and him were forced to endure. I saw enough of the back end of his boots at all underage level to respect the man for having talent that most of us posting on here can only dream about. Ill never forget those scores in the 97 minor all ireland series. One point in particular was a gem! The GAA supporters can be a brutal, heartless bunch. Maybe being married might help him beef up for intercounty football, I know its helped me flll out a bit... :-[ >:( :D

I think mark harte quit the county panel (some unfairly might say before he wasnt selected) either in 2004/2005, and declan mccrossan also ruled himself out as long as mickey harte is in charge, but i think there were some work commitment issues also. I will welcome being corrected, but as far as I was aware, those were the reasons they are not in the tyrone set up right now. Its interesting to think of the players that are not involved anymore through self imposed exile, including shane sweeny (without whom tyrone wouldnt have won in 2005).

GAA Discussion / Re: Kerry get a free pass

Its not so much the kerry display that bothers me, but the acceptance or desire to ignore it by the media - and indeed some of the less impartial kingdom fans. This bought notion of puke football reigning supreme in ulster is complete trash, infact, the cynicysm displayed by kerry today could almost be deemed worse than the swarming defensive intensity pioneered up north (IMHO). Tomas O'Se's blatant foul as cork broke in the 66th minute, when the scores were level, was a prime example. Did the RTE guys get worked up about it? Absolutely not, but you can bet your ass that if it was an ulster team, there would be some thoughtless comment about the detriment of the beautiful game. Why cant these people wake up, all we want is a removal of the anti ulster bias, we are no saints, but theres a bunch of "cute hoors" getting away with allsorts up and down the country!

GAA Discussion / Re: Brian McGuigans Bad Luck

Just  wondering, what actually happened in the game that caused such a serious injury? Not that it makes any difference. Tyrone have had too many freakish yet disasterous (im struggling for the correct words here) things happen going back as far as the late paul mcgirr, through cormac mcanallens untimely death and the loss of brothers and sisters of panel members through accidents. While we all want to see brian back in the colours of ardboe and tyrone, i wouldnt blame him if he just wants to be able to live a normal life for a while, without the constant misery of injury, finances and speculation. Games are second fiddle to the health and welfare of every member of the tyrone panel.
