However, implementing the GFA agreement as voted for by the majority of people on this island cannot be "selling out" the Irish people or the Irish Republic.

What I meant is that they no longer have any interest in a UI, never mind a 32 county socialist republic.   FTR I am all for the implementation of the GFA as I believe it will eventually bring about a more equitable society in the north.  I think that's the only vehicle whereby a UI can be brought about in the long run

and are you not contradicting yourself saying that Sinn Fein have sold out on a united Ireland, but adding that the only way to achieve a united Ireland in the long run is the implementation of the GFA?

Martin Meehan was a 1st class Republican,involved from the early 60's,interned,escaped,jailed again on word of a paid perjurer,got 12 years released again then charged again and got another 15 years,66 days on hunger strike,received the last rites 4 times during his life from beatings he received from state forces.Every time he was out returned for active service.After the ceasefire he helped build the Sinn Fein party in Antrim and Newtownabbey which again took balls as he was continually under threat.For me he was a totally inspirational figure great craic and an unbelievable prankster.As for his sons they couldn't lace his boots and Martin og in particular is a complete d**khead.

I was there this year for the first time, thought it was unreal. There's no point saying oxegen has a better line-up, you could go to Electric Picnic and not see a single band and still have a deadly time. The Mindfield Arena, the food, the comedy tent and the body and soul area makes it a lot more varied. Oxegen has a great line up but far too many spides there to ruin it.

I'd post on 'Slugger' fairly regularly. I'm also fairly regular on Munster rugby and the Scottish Football Association sites. Like I say, I'm here for the general discussions, not the sport. I do post on the Celtic thread, as I've been a follower since about 1967. I remember watching the '67 final live on tv. How many on here can say that? Also remember watching the '70 final against Feynoord.

Stew -  The US needs illegal workers, it really does. Maybe the current economic crisis has hurt many people - but all the people I hear bitching on the job forums and news lines in Reno are more than welcome to apply for the janitorial jobs, the McDonalds jobs and so on. They dont however. They would rather sit at home and bitch about whatever administration is in power and live off the state - at the same time crying about the mexicans taking their jobs. I would have GLADLY worked in McDonalds - or any other minimum paying job during the 8 months I was jobless - but my hands were tied in that I could only work in an area related to my degree in order to maintain legal status. I dont see the average unemployed american taking their future in their own hands right now and doing lower paying jobs just to be doing something. A slice of bread is better than no loaf - but they cant see that.
