GAA Discussion / Re: McKenna Cup 2012 PowerNI

Good to see Niall Geoghegan get a chance, good goalkeeper.

Inexperienced team but the potential to unearth a few gems is there. Really hoping McVerry can push on and show more of the potential we saw in 2009. His first half against Kildare that year was awesome

Victor Wanyama work permit granted.

Anybody know anything about this fella? I know he's a midfielder and Lennons plan is to play him as a centre back (he's 6ft 2"), but other then that ???
I've read his wiki page but that doesn't really say if he's any good of a player.
He's an unknown, so were Kayal and Izzy. Hopefully he's as good. Made his debut for Kenya at 15. Looks like he's built like a shithouse, hopefully we see a bit of him in pre-season.

Would agree the scouting system has been ok with Kayal, Izzy and Hooper being great finds.

Read that Victor Wanyama (great name for the terrace song writers  ;D) was suspended twice for 3 matches for bad tackle and on video evidence for an elbow in the face!! Will be interesting in the next Glasgow derby.

To the tune of the Rhianna song.... "Wanyama, that's his name, Wanyama, that's his name, that's his name, that's his name..."

Had to youtube that song - class, almost sounds made to measure  :D

I thought the song "Free from desire" by Gala fitted quite well too.

Parts of his manifesto. The scary thing is that this guy has written a 1500 page document about his ideals, this wasn't just someone who flipped out and went crazy. The court case tomorrow could be a soapbox for the man, and the scary thing is that many far right people could laud him as a hero of sorts. That is seriously scary. Some of the pictures in todays papers are horrific

To describe this as heart wrenching would be an understatement.

I didn't know Michaela, I spoke to her once when she happened to be standing beside me at a game. Seemed a lovely girl. As other have said, it seems strange that you sort of felt you knew her just by seeing her with her father. The poor families must be going through hell.

Words on a page dont and never will suffice at a moment like this. No-one that young should ever be taken away, and no-one should ever be taken away in the way it seems she has.

The GAA is a community, always has and always will, and right now and in the days, weeks and years to come them families will need the support of that community like never before.

that is shocking news. I dont post too often here but read a lot, and while I wouldn't have agreed with everything he always said, he had his opinions and was respected for it. Such a sad, sad situation. It is very surreal to not have known someone except through a computer screen, and still feel a bond and a sadness when they pass.

RIP

It was Carragher. You could see it clearly from the Gerry Arthurs side.

Looked a square ball to me in the clip on the website

It may have been, it looks close. if you look at the video, gough (9) is standing outside the square so definitely wasnt him who scored the goal. Couldn't work that out myself when i picked up the paper this morning

Armagh's Nicky Rackard game with Sligo has been moved to Breffni Park, sat at 5pm. Armagh had home advantage. why the game couldn't have been played at Crossmaglen before the Donegal baffles me.

Especially considering the average attendance at the other Rackard Cup games in Cross this year has been about 50.

exactly. it was a great chance to give the hurlers some prominance, especially as both they and the minors have been doing well this year
