Even a matter of having to leave the house to go training with no games to look forward to, especially for older players with children etc. maybe its just what they're used to but don't think theres much wrong with how we do it in Armagh.

Any club thats serious and is fielding men and womens teams needs at least 2 pitches, floodlights and a decent gym. Plenty of teams in the country wouldn't have that.Quote from: Armagh18 on May 17, 2024, 12:36:28 AMThe Athletic Grounds are a credit to Armagh compared to a lot of places imo. A decent stadium is well worth the money.Agree to a point, athletic grounds is indeed a great venue. The problem is the plethora of oversized stadia, particularly munster. Every county should have one decent stadium in keeping with their needs.
What we don't need is pissing competitions by county chairmen based on who's stadium is biggest! Similarly, we don't need clubs trying to outdo one another and pouring funds into unnecessary capital projects, even if the funds have been shamed out of some poor tight hoor from ballyholland!
Quote from: Captain Obvious on May 16, 2024, 09:42:28 PMJust Padraig McGrogan that featured in the match against Galway in the league game not named on that Derry 26 and he's replaced by McKinless. A depleted side and potential injury crisis?Rumour has it McEvoy isn't fit but maybe that's bullshit?
Quote from: Captain Obvious on May 16, 2024, 03:34:14 PMI'd say Galway will be a lot stronger this week than they were then. Should be a tight game cute hoorism aside.Quote from: tbrick18 on May 16, 2024, 03:05:47 PMQuote from: Captain Obvious on May 16, 2024, 02:36:25 PMQuote from: lurganblue on May 16, 2024, 08:33:34 AMQuote from: armaghniac on May 15, 2024, 06:44:38 PMQuote from: Keyser soze on May 15, 2024, 01:53:39 PMNo version of Derry has ever beaten Galway in championship, you can be sure that will be a factor on saturday.
Janey, even Armagh has beaten Galway.
Derry wans trying their hand at the cute hoorism here? Sure Derry were in the big three talk with Dublin and Kerry not just a few weeks ago.
Conversation of the big three talk will be back on should Derry win this weekend. A win will put them in the box seat to top the group and then perhaps talking on a Mayo,Tyrone or Monaghan in the last eight tie that they'll be expected to win. Should Dublin play Kerry in one semi final you could be looking at All Ireland final spot for Derry yet.
If we beat Galway with a depleted side undoubtedly those conversations will happen in the media.
But if we get beaten in the manner we did against Donegal - regardless of team on the field, the talk will be of the wheels coming off in the media.
Fine lines between being top 3 and an also ran in the media sphere.
I'd love to win, but if we lose I'm more interested in a good performance as 2 bad ones in a row will do nothing for confidence.
You beat Galway in Salthill with this team by a bit to spare a few months ago.
Ryan Scullion; Diarmuid Baker, Chrissy McKaigue, Conor McCluskey; Conor Doherty, Eoin McEvoy, Padraig McGrogan; Conor Glass (captain), Brendan Rogers; Ethan Doherty, CiarĂ¡n McFaul, Paul Cassidy; Niall Loughlin, Shane McGuigan, Declan Cassidy.
Subs: Niall Toner for Conor Doherty inj. (35), Donnacha Gilmore for Declan Cassidy (50), Lachlan Murray for Loughlin (56), Eunan Mulholland for Paul Cassidy (65).
Other than Padraig McGrogan who will be missing for Derry this weekend?
Quote from: Brendan on May 15, 2024, 10:25:21 PMThought Oisin was quite abrupt and aggressive in his question of Maurice Deegan in this week's podcastGot that wee bit of tension as well, nothing nasty or anything but you could feel it.
Quote from: Kernan_is_King on May 15, 2024, 10:12:48 AMWould definitely have Donegal ahead of Mayo and maybe Kerry as well at this stage, never rule out the Tyronies as well.Quote from: bennydorano on May 15, 2024, 09:46:06 AMKerry are the one team this year who I've felt have been playing their cards very close to their chest, that or they've just been pretty poor. Seeing that's it's Kerry we'll have to give them the benefit of the doubt I suppose. I remember thinking Derry had moved ahead of them in the pecking order but the league reslly is just the league. I'd be tempted to back them for the AI at this stage- not that it would be a huge shock if they won.
Joe Kernan said last week that the the only serious teams were Dublin, Armagh, Derry, Mayo and Galway. We needn't worry about the likes of Donegal and Kerry for Sam, although they are nice to visit.

If the GAA want casual fans to go then it's a stupid time. I'll be there as always for a Roscommon game but I'll be watching something else before hand having a pint. Will 15k even attend the game ?
There was 30K at the game last year and it included the Dublin v Galway Leinster hurling game. There was a decent smattering of maroon around Croke Park that day.
Attendance won't be great. A round of Dublin club games Division 1-4 fixed for 6-30 that evening.
They had a round of junior games on 3 mornings of Leinster championship games. With looking to have leagues wrapped before club championship no leeway to move games.
Sunday?

Quote from: Norm-Peterson on May 14, 2024, 06:59:53 PMDonegal must not be a very Irish nationalist people (as shown in my link) Now you can understand why I would never support an ROI county in football. Maybe they can go play in Connaught. Not sure I'd judge a whole county off one clown with a fake profile.

Quote from: RedHand88 on May 14, 2024, 05:43:41 PMWith technology these days I don't think it'd be that difficult to be honest. Or at least the vast majorityQuote from: seafoid on May 14, 2024, 12:45:28 PMThe condensed season with all the extra matches in a shorter period of time is the real problem. It's hard to keep up with what is happening and not everything can be televised. GAA people have developed expectations about what will be available. And the football product isn't what it used to be either.
Agree with everything here. People's expectations need to be reined in. It is ridiculous to expect every single game to be free to air all of the time, but that seems to be the hill that some are dying on.
