GAA Discussion / Best GAA books - Recommendations
August 08, 2023, 08:42:05 AM
Like most sports people's autobiographies, GAA personalities often have poor, uninteresting books so I was wondering which books people have read and would recommend.

My personal favourite was 'Raising the Banner' by Ger Loughnane, well worth a read.

Laois / Laois JFC A Championship 2023
July 30, 2023, 09:35:33 AM
Camross GAA Club 1-5 v 6-19 Annanough
The Rock GAA Club 0-9 v 3-5 The Harps
Kilcavan 0-11 v 0-7 Barrowhouse GAA

Some interesting results this week, massive win for Annanough and while they would have been expected to win, the likes of Spink, The Harps or Camross can be a dangerous fixture when hurlers are going well. Kilcavan edged out Barrowhouse and The Harps had a very good win against The Rock. Looks like it will be a very competitive championship.

Laois / Laois GAA needs urgent help
May 10, 2023, 11:09:58 AM
What a dreadful year 2023 has been for Laois GAA.

Our Senior footballers who were Div 2 a few years ago under a progressive coach have failed to reach the final of Div 4 which was contested by Wicklow and Sligo and then slaughtered in the championship.

Our senior hurlers who were competing in the Liam McCarthy and were competitive against the likes of Tipp and Clare a few years ago under a progressive coach have almost certainly failed to reach the final of Joe McD cup which will be contested by Offaly and most likely Carlow.

We dont seem to be competitive at any level and only last weekend we had a hurling development team annihilated against Tipp (12-20 to 0-9) and our Ladies footballers were hammered by the Dubs.

Surely there is need for some kind of emergency AGM to get all GAA folk together and see what is going on and what can be done about it.
This has not happened overnight and there is no quick fix but we need to get all the best and most passionate Laois GAA people together and figure this thing out unless we end up the bottom of the pile permanently.

So sick of politicians use spin and distraction in interviews (along with large sections of the media) instead of tackling issues at hand so it was very refreshing to hear Mick Lynch of RMT speak the truth to cut through all the BS. More of this please.

Laois / CPA Development

I dont know if many people listen to the GAA Hour podcast with Wooly Parkinson, but its a decent listen most times. This weeks one (link below) they speak to Aaron Kernan regarding the the new Club Players Association which is been set up.

It is interesting in that while there are so many senior club players out there (over 230,000) they really have no voice and are not organised in any way. But worse still they seem to have no appetite to do anything about it judging by what he says. Players do their hard work in regards to training an playing but seem to have no real interest in the political side of things, but it is this side that can change things for the better and the club player could be the big beneficiary.

That body could be the most powerful in the GAA as they would have huge influence over what proposals can be brought forward, instead we have the older generation doing the majority of their work and as a result there is very little change.

Laois / Laois Memory Lane

Saw this excellent post on the O'Dempseys website about Laois minor footballers All Ireland win from 20 years ago today and thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for video clips or newspaper articles from memorable Laois GAA events.
