Decent highlights of this game on the "GAAjustplay" app on iPhone or iPad. Never a penalty!

Nah, if it was a Tyrone infected audience, they would have been asking Joe to give Shane his other kidney.

Joe handled the interview (after walking into such a toxic atmosphere) with consummate ease and that segment was inspirational.  Though I thought he looked a bit thin and somewhat haggard, I hope he doesn't have any comebacks on his own health after all the kidney donor experience.

Thought that too, though would imagine the process would lead to some weight loss.
Should have had Joe on for the first part too, would loved to have seen him tear into the braying mob. No better man for ripping the piss out of a shower like that. Bloody Tyronies  >:( ;)

I'd love to have seen him blow a few kisses to the crowd!  ;D

A living legend is our Joe.
He did give them a big (film star) wave at the end.
When the camera scanned the audience during the few applauses, more than few could be seen with hands clasped tight and facial expressions of pure hatred.

Really, hands clasped tight and facial expressions of pure hatred, on a programme filmed in Ulster. Find that hard to believe. He is always singing the praises of Ulster football. If it were filmed in Kerry or Mayo then I would not be surprised.

Don't think you appreciate the make up of the audience that evening. Was full of Tyrone wans.

There is nothing more important than club.

Absolutely, and a certain Mr Gormley would also agree with you there. He shipped a fair bit of heavy criticism for his stance last year, but didn't waver one bit. If McCormick cup goes ahead (without any date changes) I wouldn't expect any Glen players involved - seems to be a fairly pointless competition anyway.

I see St. Pat's Maghera are due to play in the McCormick cup final on 28th Nov, with Glen v Johnnies on 2nd Dec - bit of a clash here for the Glen lads? There could be anything up to 8 Glen players involved with Maghera. Matches were moved last year to accommodate College's games, perhaps a change of date might be the way to go. Either that or St. Pa'ts may have to field without the Glen players - as they did last year for an arguably more important play off game.

I cannot for the life of me understand how Sean Cavanagh can even be in contention for an All Star this year. Apart from against an average Roscommon side he had a poor enough year I thought. No doubt he'll get nominated at least, there seems to be a bit of an obsession with him among journalists - obviously a very very good player but to read some of the stuff about him you'd swear he was Maurice Fitz, Anthony Tohill and Peter Canavan combined.

Derry final is Glen v Slaughtneil. If Glen win, they'd be defending their McGirr title.

Whoever wins that won't be far away from winning Ulster - Glen have a lot of last year's winning team still underage and Slaughtneil also very strong. Wouldn't think there'll be more than a point or two in it either way.

GAA Discussion / Re: First team meeting of the year

Team meeting a few years ago at our club, returning manager:
"Right lads, we had a middlin' year last year. Did ok in the league, bate in the semi-final of the championship.
But just two players in front of the disciplinary commitee. How the f**k would you expect to win anything with an attitude like that?"

4 players have received bans following this game.  Apart from the McMahon one, the other 3 cant really have any complaints.

Conor Gormley
Martin Penrose
Joe McMahon (Justin - not sure?)
Eoin Bradley

what did penrose do?

will be very interesting to see how consistently video evidence is acted on through the season. Not a fan of it i must say

He gave Declan Mullan a bit of a slap in the last minute or so down at the Tyrone end after trying to get a tackle in. Not much in it, bit silly.

i said around the kildare quarter-final last year that tyrone looked like a team in decline. they continue to  look slow and one-paced. the legs are getting older and they have too many smurfs that can be out-muscled. they need more 6ft+, fast players that are skillful and comfortable on the ball a la kerry and cork. dublin will be a force this year, mark my words. i'll predict now that there won't be an ulster team involved at the semi-final stage of the championship. antrim will do well again, and will be a better match for tyrone in the ulster first round.

as for dublin v derry, the dubs by 4. derry don't have the steel required to match the major teams this year. the main champ contenders will be: cork, kerry, dublin, mayo and kildare.

Are all you county managers reading? Simple as that. Just gather up all those Sean Cavanagh clones that are playing junior football around your county and bob's your uncle.

Think Celtic Park isn't far away from being ready - although 2 weeks is probably pushing it.

Anybody else notice Pat Kenny referring to "the beautiful game" (as in soccer) 2/3 times during to show? An insufferable tit of the highest order.
