Think you are right Pat, the Press will go to town on him now.

Yeah it'll be open season. It's all very sad. There was a time Gerry was a breath of fresh air in Irish radio. However he disappeared up his own ass a long time ago. He died in financial difficulties on his own. Tragic for him and more so for his loved ones. His girlfriend is entitled to grieve and she would have been called to give evidence today and it was her who found him dead. However in general she seems to have given far too many interviews since his death. All done in a kind of insecure manner as if she's trying to justify her place in his life. (In sharp contrast with his ex-wife). Her statement today (regardless of how genuine) about there being no drugs in the relationship makes her look very silly when you examine the verdict on the cause of his death. RIP Gerry. A Celtic Tiger tale if there ever was one.

He came across as big headed ass in his bio from a few years ago.

Less sympathy for him from me now he was exposed as a druggie.  Still tragic for his family and the fact drugs contributed to his death will only make their pain worse now as his death may have been avoidable.

Jaysus lads, cut the poor man a bit of slack. He was a fabulous entertainer in his lifetime. One of the best.

Ok, he lived the highlife - ok he took drugs on the inght of his death - I don't think we can call him a druggie and be devoid of symopathy for him as a result.

He was a legendary broadcaster whose private life went up in smoke for whatever reason. He was a troubled soul who lived beyond his means.

I sincerely hope the normally conservative press go to town on him in death.

Fair enough orangeman he was a great entertainer, it is very sad he died so young but even sadder now that his death could have been preventable if he was not taking illegal drugs.

All deaths through drug abuse, alcohol abuse are very, very sad and yes are preventable to an extent.

It's difficult for us who weren't in his shoes to judge.

He appeared to be under serious pressure, from a whole lot of angles.

On the face of it, he was this flash Harry who socialised with Bono and the boys and who appeared to have it all.

Clearly he didn't have it all.

Puckoon

They rarely do have it all. Hopefully the media leave well enough alone.

He would have stood up for the people against the banks if he had lived to see this week.

a bit harsh doogie, I don't understand why people have such an issue will the letters 'il' in front of 'legal drugs'.  It's not often that the populace has such respect for legislation enacted by the great and good in chambers of legislation.

Only because it appears that he may have been a 'victim' of the banks willingness to extend credit.  For much of the last few years he seemed to be a FF hack, standing up for Bertie and demanding that the tribunal stop their pointless investigation into the great man's financial dealings.

Gerry neglected his most important asset, his health, all those big steaks and drink and no exercise and then capped off with drugs were a recipe for disaster. I feel very sorry for his children, he should have been around to direct them in life. His wife looks fairly attractive, what did this south African one have to offer the like of Gerry Ryan?

Quotewhat did this south African one have to offer the like of Gerry Ryan?

Kudu burgers, emu steaks, boerwors, Pinotage......

More seriously, Gerry Ryan liked nothing better than to talk about events of the world and who better than a former ambassador.

never liked gerry, he was spoilt brat from a priviledged background who patronised women and played to the gallery. in latter years his friends were politicians and developers and he lost the run of himself ending up as a ff stooge. then he disgraced himself by trying to belittle eamon dunphy when eamo voluntarily took a paycut and he the "peoples champion" refused. like most of the rte bigwigs he set himself up as a company to avail of lower corp tax rates and paid himself a generous wage and company expenses and to top it all off killed himself with drugs, he certainly would have stuck it to the banks but only to take the spotlight off his ff buddies. good job some of his young kids didnt get their hands on his drugs
