GAA Discussion / Re: Attendances

Brought the 2 year old today to premium section and had ticket for her but be aware changing facility is in disabled toilets where sign says for disabled people only.  Of course both times I had to use there were regular punters using them before me. 1 disabled loo in Cusack premium I think. A long day at Croker but went off well other than the result! People were real good to the young one around us, very positive experience.

On to the game itself. I actually fancy Kildare to win this. Cavan should have beaten Tyrone. Kildare had several decent  wins including against Offaly the reigning champions and Dublin and Sligo.

I note Kildare have drifted out to 2/1 which is a big price. I consider this at best a 50/50 match up. Perhaps some are swayed by Canavan and the names in Tyrone line up. Good players no doubt but it's a 15 man game.

How much you putting on the 2/1??

Galway v Mayo in minor at Tuam tonight. Galway ripping it up putting up massive scores look favourites. Mayo full forward line looks like it could do damage if gets enough supply.
Winner goes in to Connacht final, loser gets a semifinal game more than likely.

Would be interesting to see what are the attendances at various fixtures this championship.

Mayo Galway in MacHale Park was 24,557
Sligo Roscommon in Markievicz 6,059
Galway Kilkenny in Pearse Stadium 14,034

Looked like there was more then 14,034 in Salthill.

https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid-40863065.html

Stand was full, looked to be loads of space behind goals. Wikipedia has current capacity at 26,197.

Interestingly wiki gives MacHale Park 25,369 capacity - was loads of room for more for Galway game considering attendance given at 24,557.

Galway deserving winners on Sunday but maroon and white posters here must all be tapping away on the same device - beforehand it was all Galway have no hope and now they have won it's we were rode by the ref. If the ref had any balls he would have red carded the Galway medical team, they did more running than any player - Galway lads dropping at every foul/ tackle and on the meds come a running. He got apparently wise to it and kept waving play on but yet on came the medical team with the bageens. At one stage they were 'attending' another victim of horrendous Mayo rough play and they spotted another 'man down', ahh shtop up the med team get grab the bageen and off to save another fallen hero.
That setup by Galway reminds me of how Mayo under 20s had the game plan to take on Galway last 2 years but may struggle to adapt to the Rossies etc. Shakes up the championship nicely in fairness and the hope on the Mayo side is that players come back in and we get a bit of variation to our game unlikely and all as that may be.
Could well have been a horses for courses setup. They haven't setup in the same way in other games this year.
I heard one pundit saying on a podcast yesterday that Galway setup the same against Derry - I was there and they absolutely didn't.
Mayo have struggled against teams that sit and protect their D in that fashion so it made sense to do it on this occasion.
100% makes sense for Galway to block up the centre and go on the counter once possession won back agsinst Mayo. Challenge for Galway is to put wins back to back against a team that's not married to the running game. Are you happy Galway have a back division that is capable of playing without double sweepers?

Congrats to Sligo, kept going to the final whistle like all winning teams do. Best of luck representing Connacht in the all Ireland section.

Lar was and will always be a GAAboard great, a lovely way of thanking fellows for their contribution and then taking apart their post bit by bit. He loved to rattle the Rossies and specialised in stirring all things Ballaghaderreen. Will miss his wit and musings.

His post on how he decided upon his name here

I was sitting beside an American military policeman watching a Railway Cup final, many years ago in the local pub. The games back then were broadcast as gaeilge.
Yer man wasn't a sociable type of chap and just sat there eyes glued to the telly and getting steadily pissed.
The final whistle sounded and he turned to me and uttered his first comment since the game began.
"Look, I don't understand that lingo and I have a clue about the rules but that Lar Napraka fella is one goddamn footballer."  :D

Gaelic football was so exciting 20 odd years ago! Great to watch, the back door brought in novel pairings. I could count 20+ counties 20 years ago that had something to play for in the Championship. I could count 5 this year! It's so dead anymore.

Most of my comments on here anymore are about Liverpool, Celtic and the FAI.
So you are a soccer fan who moans about GAA non fookin shtop.

Sigerson cup team of the year.

Conor Carroll - NUIG, Oranmore-Maree, Roscommon

Eoghan McLaughlin - UL, Westport, Mayo

Shea Ryan - DCU, Newbridge Sarsfields, Kildare

Fionán Mackessy - MTUK, Ardfert, Kerry

Sean Powter - UL, Douglas, Cork

Eoin Kelly - NUIG, Moycullen, Galway

Sean Kelly - NUIG, Moycullen, Galway

Red Óg Murphy - DCU, Curry, Sligo

Matthew Tierney - NUIG, Oughterard, Galway

Fionn McDonagh - NUIG, Westport, Mayo

Emmet McMahon - UL, Kildysart, Clare

Gavin Burke - NUIG, Corofin, Galway

Cathal Heneghan - NUIG, M Glaveys, Roscommon

David Clifford - UL, Fossa, Kerry

Tony Brosnan - MTUK, Dr. Crokes, Kerry
Other than Kildare's Shea Ryan and Powter from Cork City it's a Sligo to Kerry west coast selection (Heneghan close enough).

Train, bus, match tickets, food,  accommodation (if staying) per person could cost over £300. Ticket to Everton or OT would cost a lot less
Good jaysus you've little to worry about 😂
