Arles Kilcruise are a very small club in Laois and one of the better senior teams.

Why is there 2 Clubs in Arles , was there a falling out  ?

Tough question in Galway as there is the smallest football club and the smallest hurling club and they would be in completely different parts of the county.

In football Na Piarsaigh are from Rosmuc which has a population of about 450. Could be missing someone though.

In hurling not sure possibly Meelick-Eyrecourt on the border with Offaly who are actually one of the oldest GAA clubs in the country. Eyrecourt only has a population of 264. Think they have a tiny pick and might even have a fair few players from the Offaly side of the border. At least they did at one time.

Ballygar on the border with Roscommon has a population of about 640 I think. Glinsk football club also on the border with the Rossies must also have a very small population base encompassing the area of Creggs/Ballymoe.

Actually Glenamaddy only has a population of 516. Thought it would be more. Caltra must also have a very small population.

Feel like I'm missing someone obvious though.

If the thread was to be rephrased 'Clubs who punch above their weight' , you could include Sarsfields (New Inn/Bullaun) and St. Thomas' (Peterswell/Kilchreest); both AI club winners in the past despite having a modest available selection population-wise.

Similarly Caltra in football. Cortoon (Shamrocks) are a half-parish of Tuam and have a small area to choose from but are one of the more consistent clubs in Galway football currently.

As someone mentioned, Menlo Emmets on the eastern edge of Galway city field I think only one club at Junior level; they would have a potentially large population available to them however.

Do the Aran Islands not have teams? Surely be up (down) there playing population wise?

Aran wouldn't have a big pick but they wouldn't be the smallest either I'd say. Population on the 3 islands together would be about 1,250. They are up in intermediate now and fairly comfortable up there and have been getting young lads on Galway underage teams in recent years.

Still reckon Glinsk is smallest gas club in Galway. Especially as St Croans come way into Galway territory

Dromid Pearses in South Kerry are based in Mastergeehy which is basically a townland of Waterville. Waterville is the parrish and Dromid only reformed in the 1970s I think having not fielded for many years.

To put this in perspective, the census of 2011 put the population of the area at 271 people, yet they have produced the likes of Declan O'Sullivan and Jack O'Connor. Fairly remarkable.

Knock , just outside Roscrea , play in the Mid Tipp Division . The Parish is Kyle and Knock but most of the Parish ( Kyle and Ballaghmore are in Laois , where Kyle is the GAA Club ) . Very small catchment area !

Garrymore, Which is a half parish and been playing Senior Mayo football since the '70's?

Pretty amazing considering they're surrounded by senior clubs on all sides (and a county border for
Good measure)

Lusmagh in offaly, the home of Jim and John Troy, Joachim Kelly Brendan Birmingham, Brendan Kelly, all ireland winners to boot.

trileacman

Trillick for a smaller club punches reasonably well. I'd say places like Owen Roes and Clann na Gael do well too I suppose.

DownFanatic

Ballykinlar or Aughlisnafin in Down would probably have the smallest pick of players.

World War 3 would've been less acrimonious.
Well I could keep it above
But then it wouldn't be sky anymore

It's Laois. Enough said. Them yokes would fight with their own shadows. ::)
I'd say the Tremane hurley stuff club must be the smallest GAA CLUB in Ireland. It's on the outskirts of Athleague ( a small enough villageen) and consists of only a few townlands I believe.

Glinsk are completely separate from both Ballymoe and Creggs.

Ballymoe share a parish with Ballintubber in Roscommon and play together in that county as St Croans.

Creggs and Glinsk share the parish of Kilbegnet and once played together. They split, with Creggs staying in Roscommon and Glinsk moving to Galway. Glinsk makes up about 2/3 of that parish population wise. All of Creggs' players come from a single two teacher national school. They're about the same size as Tremane hurling club and indeed their players have traditionally played hurling there.

So Glinsk, likely the smallest football club in Galway, and Creggs, the smallest in Ros, are from the same parish.
