GAA Discussion / Re: Roscommon's next Manager

Just looked back at Roscommon finances for 2014 and including all sponsorship, club Rossie money and a small profit on the famous bus (take note all bus knockers) we still had total income of just under 200k.
Big management teams not doable on those figures. Its just plain reality lads, put the best we can together on our limited resourses, prepare the best we can and go out and give a good account of ourselves. That is the very most we can expect. Evans will get another season and if the management team has learned from mistakes made this season then it should be ok, in other words as good as anything else we could put together on that budget. Until the gaa levels the playing pitch (excuse the pun) there will be different level of prep in most counties, there will always be exceptions with teams of little resources getting good runs and lets hope we can do that next year.

In fairness to supporters Donegal v Galway should be in Castlebar, I for one would travel and I am sure many more neutrals would travel, Galway have hurling this Sunday, its just two much to ask supporters, if Sligo v Tyrone was in Carrick on Shannon a reasonable crowd would travel. Croke park will be empty, 20000 at most, just not good enough.

Yellow bus cant believe you want to replace John Evans with Mulholland. Talk about change for the sake of change.

I have never made excuses on this or any other thread for Ros defeats, 31 counties will have only ifs at the end of September, it is the delusional supporters like Mayos that you have to either laugh at or feel sorry for, every county has a few of them but its rare to get a county full of them. Get out yere bag of excuses now and pick out a few, ye will need them shortly.

Its only a donation towards expenses by a generous Ros individual, a drop in the ocean towards what it takes to run a team, the jersey is still available but no proper sponsor can be found, its the facts of football life and we accept that, its not a complaint its just the facts, we will still be competitive next year regardless.

Ros county board are in financial difficulties and struggling to make ends meet, there is no money in the coffers to pay a top management team unless a benefactor comes on board, we have no major sponsor,
club rossie on the jersey, if Evans goes the manager will have to come from within the county, its time for rossie fans to get real here, Mayo have spent in the region of 3 million euro on the senior team alone in the past 4 seasons, we are not in a position to compete with that and anything that is done will have to be done on a shoestring, those are the facts of life for Roscommon football. To all the rhubarbs sticking their nose in I say " 5 in a row and nothing to show", what will be yere excuses this year ref-venue-bad luck or maybe the real truth "just not good enough"

Massive credit to Dublin for winning the Leinster championship, I think we should drop everything else and talk about this. Such rubbish.
Mayo were brilliant today, are going route one this year and it  suits them. I really think they can go all the way this time and bring the sam back to Connacht, if they do they will be hard to listen to but most Rossies will be behind them 100%

GAA Discussion / Re: Fermanagh v Roscommon
July 15, 2015, 10:21:38 PM
Rossfan I dont agree we have taken a backward step this year, the team have made good strides in all areas but there is still a lot of work to be done, the only thing lost last Sunday was the experience the team would get by having one or two more games in the championship but maybe just as much can be learned in defeat, the six Fermanagh points were all low percentage shots and they all went over by one means or another, anyone with any modicum of football sense will have a fair idea that we were very unlucky in those last few minutes but Fermanagh deserved to be nearer to us before that. I think overall Fermanagh deserved their win and we can have very few complaints about it. The future is indeed very bright for Roscommon football regardless of those 2 horror shows against Sligo and Fermanagh, another season has passed but not without success and massive experience gained. Next springs football league will bring on this team a ton regardless of results but I am fairly sure we will survive in div 1, heres what we need to do.
Management, John Evans can only be removed if we have a top class alternative management in place and ready to go, delay would be costly in terms of team prep for league.
If Evans is reappointed a total change to backroom team is required, John Kerins was our attacking coach and he has always favoured attacking down the wings, he does not believe in the direct approach which I think would suit our team much better.
Goalkeeping coach is badly needed, those mix ups last Sunday would not have happened if our keeper had proper instruction.
Defensive and tackling coaches are the most important of all, we are poor defensively, we have not a clue how to tackle properly or how to ride a tackle, our ball retention stats are terrible.
I would love to see our stats on breaking ball not alone last Sunday but all year, a huge improvement is needed.
And then we have midfield, Cathal Shine  and who else, its a problem, a couple of young lads coming tru but a bit away yet, centre half back a problem?
I think if we get our house in order some of these problems will be solved in the process. Evans had not an easy task over the last few years, in fairness he gave youth a fling at all times and if a player was showing in training he generally got a chance, that my tupence worth, once again our flags have been lowered for another season but remember only one flag will be flying come end of the season. Hold yere heads up lads, dont mind the slaggers, the best is yet to come.

Fair play and congrats to fermanagh, they were the better team on the day, did not deserve to be 5 points down at ht and kept going to the final whistle, their supporters were just great and a credit to their county.
Tonight is not a night for sweeping statements and we have a long summer autumn and a very long winter to ponder on the happenings of the last 3 weeks, when the dust settles we can look at our quandary.
Thanks to the team and management for all the enjoyment ye have given us this year. Rossie forever,

This is 8 ulster teams in a row for ros in the qualifiers, Tyrone x 3, Armagh x2, Cavan x 2 and now Fermanagh, we must have been very bold in a previous life, the bus would look well on a bonfire up there, club rossie had better have a look at the insurance. ;D
Will be a hard game for Ros, Fermanagh topped div 3 and are not far off a very good team, their bench would be their weakest part, Ros will have much the same lineout as last weekend I would say, Those that were unable to tog last Sat will hardly be risked, if Fermanagh were playing Sligo next Sunday where would the smart money be, that will tell you how open this game is, result is only thing that matters next Sunday, shouild be an open game, we had a thriller 16 months ago between the same teams in brewster, looking forward to Enniskillen and some nice Ulster hospitality.
