Quote from: From the Bunker on Today at 12:54:50 AMIsrael considered the most hated country in Eurovision... yet ended up with one of the highest volume of public votes.

Your daily reminder that social media is not an accurate reflection of reality.  :-\
How did they manipulate the public vote, by hook and by crook I assume.

People who wanted to support Israel made an effort and used their phone.
Supposedly this was expected as a lot of regular Eurovision fans refused to vote in it. Would be interesting to see total votes cast from last year to this year

The long i was outside the easier it was to see with the naked eye. Although thats the main beneift of living in the country. Expecting it to be a bit more northernly tonight so won't be as easy to see

3 wins and a draw for Celtic against Rangers in the league this season. That's the winning of the league right there

Quote from: square_ball on May 08, 2024, 10:49:14 PMLinesman shouldn't have flagged but Madrid players had stopped playing before the ball ended up in the net so who knows how it would have panned out.
The linesman flag carries no weight, players should only play until they hear the ref's whistle.
In any VAR the linesman's flag would be ignored.
The linesman isn't meant to put their flag up until the end of the play even if there is suspicion of offside. It was a massive error. The player does look marginally offside but it's hard to know for sure unless they use the technology. Also the champions League offside system is vastly superior to the prems

Wha?! Clear foul.
Most obvious foul in the box you will see. Especially since it gave Nacho the space to kick the ball onwards towards the goal

Upsetting your little narrow mind?
Aw diddums

No, but this country has some great musicians and singers. The fact that this was the best  they could come up with  is  bonkers.
We've sent good musicians before. We've sent a LGBTQ act that resonates with a lot of what eurovision stands for. We've sent good singers. We've sent popular social media acts. We've sent a god damn turkey. We've now sent something completely different to what we've ever sent before and it actually stands a decent chance of doing well on the left hand side of the board for first time in a long time

Quote from: Captain Obvious on May 07, 2024, 12:14:14 AMIf the odds are to be believed the Irish song "Doomsday Blue" by Bambie Thug will sail into the final as is currently 5th to win it out.

1st and 2nd favourties to win and both better songs than the Irish one IMO.

Whose is it to lose though?
Ireland finished 1st in press poll and 2nd in audience poll so it should do very well this year

Quote from: upmonaghansayswe on May 05, 2024, 05:24:51 PMDuring the advantage period of 5 seconds, I thought any technical fouls by the attacking player was a free against them. i.e you can't just stand there or overcarry to claim the free.

Eamonn Fitzmaurice said the ref came back for the advantage after Conroy overcarried in the 1st half.

I thought you could. Otherwise what's the point of the advantage it would actually at times be a disadvantage
No a technical foul during the advantage should result in reversal of the original decision

Eh? Where you getting this from? It's literally an advantage, not 'might be an advantage'! Have you ever seen advantage reversed in any game due to a technical foul, ever?
Foul Subsequent to Advantage Award
If, during the advantage period, a foul is committed by a player of the team which was originally fouled then the advantage is cancelled and a free kick/puck awarded for the "second" foul.

And for clarity, an overcarry is a technical foul? Took a punt there.. It's pedantic but if that's right, it's mad that a co commentator would say that.

Also think the midfield mark should in include the AFL 'play on' at any time. Speed the thing along, Mayo 12 (I think) got caught. Needless stuff.
Yes an overcarry is a technical foul

Gaelic Life has confirmed that Barry has tore his ACL. Absolutley awful luck for someone so gifted that was just coming into his best form in 2023. Would be an awful big ask to get him back again next year and I wouldn't blame him if he didn't fancy it.
