OK the difference of opinon is on whether Pascal Canavan cut Barton open under both eyes before being sent off.

It happened right in front of me - from memory (I was only a cub) but yes Barton was cut badly.  Under both eyes I cannot be sure but defo blood there.

That match has great memories for me as I was driving that day and had myself and a lad from Newtonstewart and then 2 Derry mates who were all mates from UUJ.

With Rivalry already high from previous games there was great banter on the way to Clones.
On the way back there was a lot of

"Oh its all gone quiet in the back"
"Oh its all gone quiet in the back"
"Oh its all gone quiet"
"Oh its all gone quiet"
"Oh its all gone quiet in the back"

And of course

We beat Derry with 13 men doo daa doo daa
We beat Derry with 13 men doo daa doo daa Daay!

Ah we were young, single and they're only response was

"There's no SAAAAA....M in Tyrone"

Indeed, does anybody have this game on tape? Never seen it and wouldn't mind doing so, was it as dirty as it seems?

The Tyronies are always quick to forget we only had 14 men.  :D :D

From my recollection Barton wasn't cut, however, the derry team were all pretty cut up after the match.....

Ach now Tyrone were a dirty pile of hallions alright, Meath soon sorted them out the next year.  :-*

Why anyone would want to watch that game is beyond me... what Tyrone did that day was a blight on the GAA and was the beginning of 'puke football' imo. An absolute joke. One lad came to play football and the rest to fcuk about. Thank God they were denied the most undeserved All Ireland of all time and I wasn't too unhappy to see Meath teach them a lesson the year after!
