by fu*k that was a hot day. and i got lost on the clones hill!!!
I still regard that match as the best Tyrone game I was ever at.
It had just about everything that day, including the right result ............

Does anyone have a copy of the game or even of the highlights of Tyrone v Derry in 1995? I need it to settle a long standing difference of opinion.
We could maybe settle it here??
I used to have it on Video but God knows where it is now?
Wouldn't you imagine RTE would make a bomb selling old matches either online on on DVD?
What's the question?
What team finished Derry as a competitive footballing force after their 1-in-a-row triumph in 93?

Down and the derry county board in 1994. BTW Tyrone just kep doing 1-in-a-rows also.
OK the difference of opinon is on whether Pascal Canavan cut Barton open under both eyes before being sent off.

it got the biggest cheer of the day from derry fans too ;D
Remember the incident well and cant remember anything of Barton being cut when Pascal milled him. He got a left and a right to the jaw but they just bounced off him to be fair to him. He had Pascal by the throat at the time.
Yeah my memory was Barton had grabbed him by the throat trying to get a reaction
Pascal waited for him to release but when he didn't he gave him to good digs to the jaw.
I'm just wondering how long to reigning AI champs tend to last in Ulster the following year
Can anyone tell me Who beat ...
Down in 1992 ...................
Donegal in 1993.................
Derry in 1994.....................Down in the Marches I think. Was it the 1st round?
Down in 1995....................Tyrone in Ulster final

Tyrone in 2004..................Donegal in the semi I think
Tyrone in 2006..................Derry in Omagh in 1st round
And....

It happened right in front of me - from memory (I was only a cub) but yes Barton was cut badly. Under both eyes I cannot be sure but defo blood there.
That match has great memories for me as I was driving that day and had myself and a lad from Newtonstewart and then 2 Derry mates who were all mates from UUJ.
With Rivalry already high from previous games there was great banter on the way to Clones.
On the way back there was a lot of
"Oh its all gone quiet in the back"
"Oh its all gone quiet in the back"
"Oh its all gone quiet"
"Oh its all gone quiet"
"Oh its all gone quiet in the back"
And of course
We beat Derry with 13 men doo daa doo daa
We beat Derry with 13 men doo daa doo daa Daay!
Ah we were young, single and they're only response was
"There's no SAAAAA....M in Tyrone"

The Tyronies are always quick to forget we only had 14 men. :D :D
From my recollection Barton wasn't cut, however, the derry team were all pretty cut up after the match.....
Ach now Tyrone were a dirty pile of hallions alright, Meath soon sorted them out the next year. :-*
I have a copy of highlights somewhere. I will find it get it on to DVD and get you a copy.
So has anyone got a full length copy then ?
I wasn't broadcast live if my memory serves me right so doubtful if there is a full length version available.

Why anyone would want to watch that game is beyond me... what Tyrone did that day was a blight on the GAA and was the beginning of 'puke football' imo. An absolute joke. One lad came to play football and the rest to fcuk about. Thank God they were denied the most undeserved All Ireland of all time and I wasn't too unhappy to see Meath teach them a lesson the year after!

Sounds like a Derryman who is still shook up by that defeat 13 years on. Get over it!
Sure Derry never recovered after that defeat, and Tyrone went on to win 3 All Ireland titles..................
We're still learning from the lessons thank God !!!!!!! ;) ;)

If it wasn't for your truthful outbursts us Red hand defenders would have nobody to enjoy any more.
Now that the Apple Munchers have fell into their Ulster title slumberland happy with their ango Celt to show around the schools of Armagh
It was a classic eventful game alright and definitely one of the most exciting games of that decade along with Derry v Down in 1994
What would ye Derry lads say was yer most important victory over Tyrone?
its been a long time since we met in a Ulster final.
Would the league final in 1992 where Brolly bribed Plunkett be the last high profile game?

1997 always brings back fond memories. :)
2-15 till 2-03 I think.
Keeping the inbreds scoreless in the first half of the 2006 clash was also nice.
The banter coming out of Clones in the 2001 All-Ireland quarter-final was also hard to beat. There was Tyrone men looking to fight because "we already bate them Derry wans earlier in the year, its not fair, they shouldn't be let back in!! :'( :'( :'(" :D :D.
There's definetly something unique about Derry vs Tyrone games anyway. Brings out the worst in both sets of fans.
Best chant I heard at the 2001 Quater Final was: "There Is No S.D.L.P. In Tyrone"

Do we meet this year in the league lads?
Should be interesting to see Paddy Bradley doing some keepie uppies in Omagh
I see its another year where we cant meet in the Ulster final.
Can anyone remember the last time the two teams met in the final?

I don't actually remember it, but the only time they met in the Ulster Final was 1957
Seems unreal that doesn't it
When you think How often Cork and Kerry have met in Munster or Dublin and Meath in the Leinster final.
I wonder which two teams have met the most in Ulster finals?
cavan and monaghan at a guess

I'd love to meet the london boys in an ulster final ... there'd be no bother getting tickets considering their support

Please delete those last few posts as it kills my phone when I'm scrolling.
I always wondered could they put a few links on each page to jump to the end or the start or even the middle
If anyone is putting the game online, any chance they could do it on www.irishtorrents.com ?? Not bad for GAA, got this years final on there.
I used to have that game somewhere, god knows where it is now, probably got taped over by Coronation Street. I know for sure I have the 1994 Gaelic Games Video hosted by Jimmy Magee, must wreck out the VHS payer from the attic!
This game has put me in a nostalgic mood... anyone remember the tape they had out that year ('95) with the dodgy song with lyrics such as... "Tyrone are the best team in the country, from every part of the county we will go, as we make our way to dublin in september tyrone will bring the sam maguire home" ... with diddly dee in between most lines.
I can't think about that game without the line from the song "...and with 13 men against the wind in Clones, for the red hand men it was a merry dance!"
The tape had a poem as a B-side, was quite moody, about Ulster teams winning Sam in the early 90s if I recall. Anyone else burn it out in the tape deck of a cavalier??? :D

Tyrone always were the worst for that craic ::)
Also heard a few at it at the Armagh match in Clones last year. Always thought it was funny, its like a piss-take of your own people and gloating over your heritagebeing taken away.
(Or maybe just a good way to get us pissed off :D)
Very, very fond memories of this one, ranks right up there with the All Ireland semi's and finals from 03 and 05 as well as this years final for me. Think I a video tape of it, must take a look for it.

Deadly memories. Did that include the Ballad if Iggy Jones or was that the '86 tape.
Remember Canavan is the Man?
The Iggy Jones song was on the 1995 tape on Side B - there was some muck on there particularly "The Footballers Deck of Cards"
The aul fella has the tape knocking around somewhere - I remember listening to it on the way to Croker for the final in 2003
Supersubs Cush and McGleenan (with the s whispered) :D ;D
classic frank mcguigan tunes on that tape as well i think?
when peter was a baby - another philomena begly masterpiece
BRIAN COLL sang
"Canavan is the man, Canavan is the man
Hey Ho, ma diaro, Canavan is the man
He's Mr Dynamite
With left foot and the right
Hey Ho, ma diaro, Canavan is the man"
Any of you got the word to the Iggy Jones Ballad.
Another Tyrone classic but not on that tape - Eugene Mc Kenna the Pride of little Augher Tyrone and Ireland too.
Not the Ballad but a fine peice nonetheless in the Roscommon Herald 3 years ago:
Iggy Jones
WHENEVER I see Tyrone teams in action I am reminded of some of the great Tyrone players of the past. The first player who comes to mind is the great Iggy Jones.
I will never forget the day in Sligo about 10 years ago when I called to my dentist to tell him the news that Iggy Jones had died suddenly while on holidays in Donegal. He actually died while attending a wedding. An avid Tyrone supporter, my dentist was ashen faced when he heard the news. Of all the great Tyrone footballers you can mention, the one name that I always associate with the Red hand is one Iggy Jones. If there is one player I regret not having seen in action it is the great Dungannon man.
By all accounts he was a real wizard, one of the great artists of Gaelic football. From his days as a student in St. Patrick's College, Armagh, the diminutive Iggy was regarded as a supreme stylist. He had become a legend in his own lifetime in colleges' football, particularly in Northern Ireland. There used to be a photo in the school and under it they had put the inscription 'Jones' – nothing more. Every student in the college knew who 'Jones' was. He had made a major contribution in bringing the first Colleges' All-Ireland title (The Hogan Cup) to the school in 1946. St. Patrick's defeated the famous St. Jarlath's, Tuam, in the final. Seán Purcell was at centre-half forward for St. Jarlath's that day and he was marked by the great Eddie Devlin.
By all accounts it was a classic duel in a classic game. The Armagh college won by a single point in a high scoring game, 3-11 to 4-7. I contacted my good friend Jack Mahon who played against Jones in the All-Ireland semi-final of 1956. He said, "Iggy Jones was the finest colleges' footballer I have ever seen." He mentioned that All-Ireland Colleges' final of 1946. Iggy Jones missed a penalty in the first half but scored 3-4 from play in the second half. St. Jarlath's turned the tables the following year and 10 years later in 1957 Seán Purcell and Eddie Devlin faced each other again in the league semi-final.
Iggy Jones was famous for his solo run. He was only about 5' 7" and weighed no more than 9 stone. He could waltz and jink his way through a defence like a hot knife through butter. I am told that he would approach a defender soloing with his right foot but he would pass him out soloing with the left or vice versa. In the All-Ireland semi-final against Galway in 1956 he made a famous run down the right wing in the second half, side-stepping his way past man after man and then faced by goalie Jack Mangan, he tried to punch the ball over his head to the net. The Galway captain, however, was equal to it and Iggy's effort and caught the ball and cleared it to safety. Jack Mahon recalls that game. He can still remember that solo run as Jones "zig zagged" through the Galway defence but took the wrong option when face to face with Jack Mangan. Owen Mulligan's solo run against Dublin last Saturday reminded him of that solo run in 1956. Galway won the game by 0-8 to 0-6.
That Tyrone team had some famous footballers. The Devlin brothers, Jim and Eddie, were outstanding. Sadly, Jim was shot dead a few years ago in the sectarian violence in Northern Ireland. I can still remember the great names as if it was only last year, Thady Turbett in goals, Brian McSorley, Jody O'Neill, an outstanding midfielder, sheep farmer Jackie Taggart a tower of strength on the 'forty', Seán Donnelly, Paddy Corey, Frankie Higgins, John Joe O'Hagan, all great players, but the greatest of them all was Iggy Jones. Tyrone lost the 1956 All-Ireland semi-final to Galway and they literally threw away the 1957 semi-final to Louth as they squandered one great scoring chance after another. Some great players have worn the famous white and red jersey since; Frank McGuigan, Eugene McKenna, Plunkett Donaghy, Peter Canavan to mention but a few, but by all accounts Iggy Jones was the greatest stylist of them all.

Barton is a boring shite no doubt about it But have you ever listened to Oisin McConville he can hardly speak English, very hard to understand and just sums up other peoples analysis
Also Ger Holihan, very hard to understand and always had to get in "You cant look past Armagh" no matter what teams were being discussed.
Always thought J Burns was by far the best of the BBC, UTV lot and Brolly was Best of the RTE lot. Both give good insight and analysis and both can be good craic, Brolly in particular.
Absolutely hate Tommy Lyons and Martin McHugh. TL totally hates Ulster teams and will never say anything bad about Dublin and is always talking them up and Mc Hugh just totally hates Derry and Armagh and is always finding fault with them no matter how well they are playing. His analysis at half time between Armagh and Cavan last year was a joke, Armagh were coasting and all he done was pick out negatives and ridicule them. I thought J Burns was gonna explode.

Wonder what the success rate is for most teams.
Who would be the biggest losers in Ulster finals I wonder
What's Damian barton up to now?
I used to dread him on that UTV program with Logie.
Yes Barton is a Derry man, but I have to agree with you. He is the most boring analyst I have ever seen on any of those shows.
Ach now his statement that Steven McDonnell is not a good goal scorer one-on-one was the best I ever heard. The same Steven McDonnell that has scored more Championship goals than any other Ulster football ever!!
GIGO? FYI IMHO WYSIWYG.

No its not the tracking. Its got damaged in someway or has picked up some dirt through the years. After the 1st 20 mins or so its sound.
If you ever get her onto DVD, I'm a definite buyer!! Would make a fine Christmas present to give to myself.

Maybe you could throw her onto youtube or irishtorrents.com or something if its not too much bother?

Who scored the disallowed point for tyrone in the 1995 all ireland final after taking the pass from canavan.... seanie something... wing back i think?
Mc Laughlin Drumquin.
Don't suppose anyone has a video of that match they could throw online? Its a game I never seen again.
Would also love to see that year's All-Ireland minor final between Derry and Westmeath again.

It happened right in front of me - from memory (I was only a cub) but yes Barton was cut badly. Under both eyes I cannot be sure but defo blood there.
No he definitely wasnt cut
QuoteNo he definitely wasnt cut

Just went through a few random videos yesterday that i hadnt labelled from a few years back.found everything but this game, got the 95 ulster final v Cavan, found St.pats armagh v enniskillen in a mc croroy cup final and errigal ciaran v ballinderry in an ulster final in clones!! No sign of derry match tho
Could you put the Ballinderry vs errigal game onnline??
Think it must have been the 2002 sf.
I have got what I can transfered to DVD of this game. There is 2 sets of highlights. The first is extended highlights shown by UTV and the first few minutes are jumpy and loses a picture sometimes. Once it clears the picture is perfect. The 2nd highlights are from the old Monday game show from RTE. Can someone who knows how to upload to a torrent site send me a pm so that I can send them a copy to upload for whoever wants a copy.
God. I would love to get my hands on this.

Just finished watching the 1995 USF there.
Canavan was unbelievable. McKeever tried his best but he took on the whole Derry defence to score his first and after that scored 3 more from play, four from frees, 2 of which he won for himself. All the more remarkable in that Tyrone played with only four forwards for most of the game following the dismissal of McCallan & Pascal. On the question of whether Pascal cut Barton it's inconclusive but he hit him two skelps that Ricky Hatton would be proud of. The game re-kindles great memories. Saw Fergal McCusker the other day and he hasn't changed a bit.
OK I'm burning a copy for O'Neill so someone who wants it PM him their address providing they are happy to burn a copy to pass on etc. That way everyone should get it and the work is shared out.
Would love to watch this but don't know how to burn a copy. If I could get it for a weekend and send it back to the person, that would do.
Thank you. Already sent a message to Oneill, to get a copy.
Got that and a fine viewing it was. Will make a few copies this weekend. If anyone wants a copy, pm me.
I've downloaded manys a torrent before - are they easy to upload?
As for the game, the great Derry side of 91-94 was slightly on the wane and were met with a well-prepared hungry Tyrone side on the up. Sometimes you think back and believe the Canavan Black Taxi joke. There were some other decent footballers. Logan and Gormley had good games in the middle that day. The Devlins were tidy defenders. Seanie McLaughlin was a thorn in Derry's side. Then you had Cush to spring from the bench.....and Paul Donnelly.
Fair play to Barton. He took two good digs on the neb and stood tall. Today, he'd probably be on the floor from the breeze of the first swipe and Pascal'd be banned for 36 weeks.
Thats Darren Conway you're thinking of.
Or maybe Damian O'Hagan
To all those who have asked for a copy - I'll get stuck into a bit of burning this weekend and will send out next week.

Observations:
1) That Tyrone team in 95 didnt win an all Ireland by a kick of the ball, and whilst their conquerers took all the plaudits they were slated because of their performance in the final and people said they were a one man band. Now dont get me wrong Canavan that day deserved to win the 14 inch portable TV more than any. That form of revisionism is incorrect but unfair on the Fergal Logans, Seanie Mc Laughlins, Chris Lawns, Devlin twins, Ronan Mc Garrity, Jody Gormley, Adie Cush, Paul Donnelly etc. Tyrone took on a Derry team that day hellbent on winning a second sam and took them apart in an awesome display. Secondly and a point rarely argued. There were rightly 3 acknowledged great teams in Ulster who beat each other in some epic battles throughout those years. We must remember Tyrone roundly defeated all 3 of these teams often ending their ambitions of Sam when they were there or therabouts and I mean destroyed them. So I will go as far as to say that that game could in many eyes have been every bit as good as Down and Derry in Celtic Park only for the fact Tyrone didnt win Sam. The derry wans always hate this game being brought up, it burns because this was their one that got away, but when they came back to exact revenge and who can forget Barton swearing revenge in the Irish News against the red hands they got their asses handed back to them again in 96. Ill go as far as to say that that Tyrone team but for a little more self belief in Croke Park could have completed the two in a row of Sams in 95 and also in 96, when unfortunately a lesson in cold blooded Thuggery was served.
2)John Mc Bride used to score great goals, but that was before Frank Mitchels voice broke.
3) Incidently a youthfull Mark Sidebottom does the round up of games describing the Kerry tipp game as Tipp travelled hoping to cause an upset until they were hit by 5 first half goals. Was that how low the once mighty kingdom had fallen during this period that Tipp were planning to beat them. It made me think when the kerry golden years finished in 1986, men like sean Cavanagh were 2 or 3. When the Kerry men talk of neaveaux riche I think listen to them - the old has beens. They would need to send up a few videos of their golden years to remind some of these upstarts of Tyrone players what tradition they should be afraid of. Please try and get the videos converted to DVD for a modern audience if possible and it might bear fuller fruits than in recent years.
4) Also Tohills tips were great I learned how to kick the ball with my foot and to pass the ball using just my fist. (If i had watched them at the time)
5) Finally I wonder who won the weekend in sundrenched Lanzerote.
Next who has the video for Tyrone V Armagh 2002 first game. or Tyone V Armagh 1989.

No, he did get sent off on the AI quarter final against Derry in 2001 tho.
I'm talking about the semi final in 1996. His marker kept hitting him dirty digs off the ball and going in with the knee which the linesman didnt call to the refs attention. Once Derry were blown out of the water and the game was in the bag, Canavan exacted his own revenge and didnt even wait for the ref and just walked off, knowing he'd only get a month and be back for the final. The crowd went wild as the Derry back had it coming to him all day.

I think it was Paddy Heaney who asked Peter when and why he'd developed a physical edge to his game around the turn of the decade. Peter retorted that the exact point was when he lost his front teeth!
Next you'll be telling me the Lawns were twins and the Devlins werent. ;)
If Paul Donnelly had played, if Adie Cush hadnt been fallen on in training by Mc Callan, if Canavan hadnt slipped, that team would have made the breakthrough. They had some tremendous performances pre 96 Meath game. Donegal in Breffni were walloped, Down in Clones annhilated, Derry in Clones (2) - massacred, - the first team in 18 years wasnt it to do back to back. Tyrone paid the penalty for Donegal, Derry and Downs lose knit victories over the dubs. Ulsters quota of luck had been used up by the predessors. I always believed of all the victories Derrys against an auld done Cork team was the least memorable but in fairness Tyrone were beaten by an auld done Dublin team, just 2 years later. In 96 we were arrogant I heard at the time that key men werent applying themselves in training as they should have been, and for the first time in our history we were favourites to win Sam and we only had to survive the football challenge of Meath. We just about survived never mind the football but that team was finished.

No, don't think so
cornafean, it was more that he'd have been liable to have taken a walk to the line, and that's where the management's "courage" would have come into it, as you said.
With the greatst respect rrhf, you judgement is tainted by the fact that Tyrone have won 3 titles in recent years. Pre any all ireland senior success it was widely accepted that the team in 95 wasnt good enough. Too many weakness, one man band etc etc. Now with a little success we are getting the what ifs, maybes and so on. IMHO they werent good enough. You talk about self belief and luck, however i dont think anyteam has won an all ireland that hadnt that self belief. No disrespect to any of those on it, as a package , i dont think they were strong enough !
As for the Meath game, it provided a lesson that still hasnt been forgotten. Peter Canavan mentioned this in the aftermath of the 2003 victory. To paraphrase it was along the lines of , it showed what was needed to win and never again would they allow themselves to be walked over in the fashion they had been.
Thanks Bensars but between 95/96 Tyrone teams were coming on the back of all 3 ireland winners and 4 years of wins from the same province. Leinster football teams were put to the sword in 3 of them 4 finals. Dublin football couldnt cope with the Ulster teams. It was to be Tyrones turn and that Dublin team were on their last legs. Undoubtedly you dont win a sam if you dont deserve it but Tyrone were a much better outfit in 95/96 then they were ever given credit for, beating a Galway team that went on to win 2 ais in the semifinal in 95 too. Maybe my point is therte were no great teams at that stage and Tyrone were as close as any and should have won one anyway in a fairly average era. By your logic that Dublin team had consistently proved they were not good enough and yet the still took one home with them, even though they proved they were done when falling out of their provincial setries the next year to a Meath team brimming with youthful exuberance and cold calulating mature cynicism.

Without dismissing the facetious nature of your comment regarding Kerry, they have won 4 All-Irelands in this very decade. They're probably available on blu-ray!
No but in the golden years they werent really challenged at any time ie very few stood up to them. Nowadays when they face a decent challenge theres a case of golden tears and a stampede to change the rules.

In 96 we were arrogant I heard at the time that key men werent applying themselves in training as they should have been, and for the first time in our history we were favourites to win Sam and we only had to survive the football challenge of Meath. We just about survived never mind the football but that team was finished.
One of the most stupid things I have ever seen posted.
QuoteO Neill thanks a million really enjoyed it one for the library.
Anyway thanks O Neill again.
blah, blah, blah...god you talk some awful shite rrhf.
Did ye see Tohill hold his finger to his lips to the Tyrone crowd after he put Derry 9-8 ahead? It would have been more in his interest to track Gormley who scored the winning point.
O'Neill, got mine today and have watched it twice.
Cracking game, and what a memory. Still my favourite Tyrone game in past 30 years.
You might have startded something with these old games......
If anyone wants another copy, PM me and i'll send it out.
Once again, thanks a million.
I wouldn't mind a copy if there's any more floating around
Corresponded with a few who have voiced this idea about trading video/dvds. It'd be a good idea to find out what we have on here.
All I really have is Tyrone v Wexford in 2002 up to 2008. Never really taped games at home.
Matches I'd love to see again:
Tyrone v Armagh 1980, 1984
Tyrone v Down 1986, 1996
Tyrone v Monaghan 1988
I have Tyrone v Cavan, Tyrone v Galway, Tyrone v Kerry, all in '86 championship. Plus, build up and post match reactions from final.
Will try and put them onto 2 DVD's. Galway game not great quality as recorded on fuzzy RTE. Kerry game runs out a few minutes from the end, which is o.k. as we all know what happened!!!!!
I think the trading is a great idea, as we all can have a collection of Tyrone games at home to cherish.
Hope this idea catches on....
PM me and that way I will get motivated to get copying......
Would it not be much easier to set up a thread on rapidshare.
Then anyone can upload any game they may have and more importantly you can download very very quickly. Would save the posting of DVDs.
What format do they have to be on rapidshare and how long would it take to upload a 90 min dvd?
Thanks O'Neill for the DVD which arrived in my wilderness today and was very much appreciated. I have VHS of the championship games against Cavan, Galway and Dublin in 95 and Fermanagh, Down and Meath in 96 if anybody wants those ???.
As for rrhf Id agree the team of 95 was unfairly much maligned. Not in the same class perhaps as the lads that followed but a very good team and still very close to an All-Ireland and built on a superb U-21 team panel. At the time people felt the win over Galway in the semi was unconvincing but that Galway side went on to do great things. Had Tyrone had Cush fit for the final I believe they would have won Sam. The 96 team looked even better and Dooher, Cavlan and an song Cush was a great half forward line but obviouslyfor various reasons it all went wrong in the end. The teams of this decade had a bit more quality but more perhaps more importantly a lot more mental strength, a belief they could and would (and maybe will yet ;)) take on and beat the best in Croke Park.
At least we got it right in the end ;D

There was some difference between the Galway side from '95 to that of '98 & '01. The Galway minor side from '95 contributed many important players to those successes.

Fair enough but back in 95 Tyrone took a bit of stick for only beating Galway by 3 points. Mayo had been hammered in Croke Park in 93 and Leitrim well beaten in 94 and the feeling at the time was that Tyrone should have been beating Galway by a fair bit. The fact that Mayo then went on to do very well in 96 and 97 and a number of the 95 Galway lads went on to win AI medals showed Tyrone's 95 win wasnt as poor as some made out.
The players of 95 and current era
1) Finbarr V J Devine V Packie
2) Paul devlin V Ryan Mc Menamin
3) Chris Lawn V Cormac Mc Anallan V Justin Mc Mahon
4) Fay Devlin V C Gourley V M Magee V Joe Mc Mahon V Conor Gormley
5) Sean Mc Laughlin V D Harte
6) Gavin Devlin V Conor Gormley V Seamy Mc Callan
7) Philly Jordan V Ronan Mc garrity
8/9) Sean Cavanagh V Enda Mc Ginley V Fearghal Logan V Jody Gormley V Hub Hughes V Colin Holmes
10) Brian Dooher V Ciaran Loughran V A Cush
11) B Mc Guigan V C Corr V C Mc Cullough V Barney Gormley
12) G Cavlan V Ry Mellon V Pascal Canavan
13) S Lawn V M Penrose V Tommy Mc Guigan
14) S O Neill v P Canavan V S Cavanagh again v M mc Gleenan
15) O Mulligan V C mc Bride V c cavanagh
adjust as see fit.
If I was picking a team from that lot it would probably be:
Finbarr
Ricey
Lawn
Fay
McGarrity
Gormley
Jordan
McGinley
McAnnallan
Dooher
McGuigan
Cavlan
O'Neill
Cavanagh
Canavan
Justy McMahon was unreal this year at full back considering it was his first year playing there at county level. If was doing the same excercise at end of next year would be suprised if he wasnt on team. Cush and Pascal also unlucky to miss out.
Was away for a few days and just picked up my copy there this weekend.........excellent stuff, many thanks O'Neill
There's an oul lad called William who's burning over the festive period and he says he lives a couple a doors up a road from you and says he'll throw one down.
Would there be any chance of someone throwing this up on rapidshare or one of those sites or as a torrent at all?
Just watched my copy last night (transatlantic post isn't what it should be), cracking stuff.
Peter was magnificent that day, but the indiscipline shown by tyrone was shocking. Interesting too to see them interviewd afterwards in their civilian clothes, when you consider how well the teams are looked after in this day and age with matching gear before and after games.
Does anyone else think paul devlin on the ball cuts a figure a bit like Dooher?
Loved the auld boy at the end however,
"Well, now, in laymans terms, for the neutral like, that was connoisseur stuff"
Ok, bit of a pickle here - I need a copy burned. My copy has been eaten by one of the children and the stored copy on the mac is now corrupt for some reason and won't finish the copying process. I need one posted out to a fellow. If anyone can do this with the one I sent you, please pm me.
Still haven't manage to get a copy of this so if anyone has one to spare or can tell me how to get it from the web somewhere much appreciated.
It was a very relevant game to me as it was the first time I was driving some friend from UUJ to a game.
A lad from Newtonstewart, a lad from Limavady & a lad from Derry city of all places.
The crack mighty on the way up with the usual slagging and great excitement.
The journey home was a little less noisey from the back seat and of course I had to stop of at Kellys for a feed and a drink which they Dery lads just loved.
You've won nothing yet was the repeated phrase that evening but we got to the AI final and at least Everton won the FA cup.
Wonder will there be a repeat this year.
Another call for anyone I posted out copies to to make more copies - a few people are in need still.

sorry o neill i will post that one back to you as requested
25 years ago today. what a game/day that was!
Probably the best Tyrone game I ever attended and that includes the classic all Ireland finals v Kerry
Deadly game. The dead heat. The blazing sun. The hill. The smell. Hog Donnelly with the game of his life. Majestic.
Great game. Unreal heat and tension. 25000 at it. Be great to have days like that again but doubt we ever will.
I attended this game, drove up from Dublin for it. I'm wondering if anybody remembers an incident that happened I think towards the end of the minor game that day, or perhaps just after it, before the senior teams had come onto the pitch. The public address announcer said - but in Irish (which I understand) - that Peter Canavan, uimhir a ceathairdéag, would not play, and that Brendan Mallon would start instead of him. I'm not sure how many people understood what the PA announcer was saying, but it was quite clear to both myself and me oul' lad and we both agreed that Tyrone were fecked without Canavan. Then a few minutes later the teams came out on the pitch and Canavan was there as normal, not a bother on him. Maybe it was an early GAA example of managerial mind games from Art McRory and Eugene McKenna.
Somewhere in an attic I have a recording of this game with commentary by Jimmy Smyth and Peter McGinnity.

How Hog didn't feature in the All Ireland final that year and the following year v Meath is a mystery to me. Tailor made for that game in 1996.

Yes - there was a few changes at H/T with the 2 sendings off.
FLASHBACK: 1995 Ulster SFC semi-final: Tyrone 0-11 Derry 0-10
Sean O'Neill looks back at the 'vitriolic' 1995 game with Tyrone's Adrian Cush and Derry's Fergal McCusker...
WHAT Adrian Cush remembers most was the unmerciful heat.
The temperatures were in the high 70s on the streets of Clones for the 1995 Ulster Senior Football Championship semi-final meeting of Derry and Tyrone. And with 30,000 souls packed into the old ground on that June Sunday, it must have been considerably higher on the pitch.
Cush was introduced as a half-time sub for Mattie McGleenan as Tyrone trailed 0-8 to 0-5. In addition, Tyrone had had two players sent-off in a fiery first-half. Seamus McCallan walked for two bookable offences and Pascal Canavan was lined after clashing with Damian Barton.
The fleet-footed former Donaghmore attacker recalled the atmosphere in Tyrone at that time: "The build up to the game was incredible," remembers Cush.
"When we go back to 1995 - we were the top two teams in Ulster, the rivalry was intense and this game was do-or-die. It started about a month before the game. Every paper you opened, every time you turned on the radio, every time you turned on the TV, it was Tyrone-Derry, Tyrone-Derry, Tyrone-Derry...
"The one thing that stands out was the heat. The hits were going in and the heat was incredible, there were ice bags being thrown on, water bottles being tossed - this was during play. And the people were everywhere. It was just a blaze of red-and-white. The ground was firm, the ball was hard - the conditions were perfect."
Do or die indeed. Tyrone had not beaten Derry in their previous nine league and Championship encounters. This had included losses in the preliminary round of the Ulster Championship in 1991, the National League final of 1992, the preliminary round of Ulster again in 1992 and, in the lead up to the Clones clash, another narrow defeat in the league semi-final.
Tyrone had had to sit and suffer while Down, Donegal and Derry had brought Sam Maguire north in a renaissance for Ulster football. They hoped their time was coming and Cush insists they simply could not countenance another defeat to the Oak Leafers.
At half-time though, it was not looking good for Art McRory and Eugene McKenna's men. That said, he recalled there was no sense of panic as they stood in the dressing room at St Tiernach's Park.
"Our backs were against the wall," said Cush.
"It was eight points to five, we were two men down. I remember in the changing rooms at half-time - everybody was stripped off again - it was that hot. But the one thing that I can always clearly remember - everybody was calm.
"I remember the management telling us that Derry - rightly or wrongly - thought the game was over. But we were convinced in the changing rooms that we had a chance."
In the second-half, Tyrone out-scored their opponents by 0-6 to 0-2 in a brilliant, defiant display. Jody Gormley stroked over a left-footed winner, while the superb Peter Canavan garnered a 10-out-of-10 rating in The Irish News as he finished with 0-8.
Derry, of course, also had Fergal McCusker lined in the second-half and he, like Cush, remembers a game which mirrored the sizzling heat: "It was probably the most vitriolic, bad tempered and spiteful game I can remember," was the Glen man's stark recollection.
Derry, though holding that three-point lead at the interval, were heavily reliant on the free taking of Tohill and Enda Gormley. Indeed, they only scored one point from play, through Eamon Burns, in the entire game.
"That was probably when the rivalry between the two teams peaked," said McCusker.
"From 1991 to 1995, we met eachother a lot in the Championship and the league and, I suppose, with near neighbours the rivalry does build. It was a particularly hot day that day too and that maybe affected a few fans.
"It was one of those days where - I know from talking to people - you thought maybe there was going to be crowd trouble or stuff was going to spill over, but thankfully it didn't. It was hot and heavy, the white heat of Championship battle."
When the dust had settled, McCusker, naturally enough, could not be far enough away from the county Monaghan town: "We were out - there was no backdoor," he said.
"I had got sent-off and I just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. There was a pitch invasion of course and it's just the last place you want to be. A one-point defeat in an Ulster Championship semi-final - it doesn't get much worse, in fairness.
"It was down through Clones and hard to get out of it. And Tyrone fans obviously spotting you and you just want to keep your head down, get up the road and go and hide for a couple of weeks."
For Cush, the emotions were, obviously, in utter contrast: "It was just elation and tremendous relief - there was no way that we could face the Tyrone public again after losing another tight game," he stressed.
"We had suffered heart breaking results against Derry, who were a top team. We felt we were a top team, but we had nothing to show for it. I will always remember the two managers in the changing room after the match telling us that we've won nothing," he said.
"And we went to the training on the Tuesday night and I never put in a session like it. It was brutal - an absolutely savage running match. It wasn't the fact that we needed the fitness - the message they were trying to get across was - we have won nothing yet and your feet are back on the ground."

This report is incorrect. Ronan McGarrity didn't come of in that game infact he was very central to Tyrones running game in the 2nd half. I watched this game a fortnight ago.

Don't shoot the messenger. Article above from The Irish News
I was just saying the report was incorrect.
Jeez when you look back that was a limited enough Tyrone team. McCallan and then esp the forwards. Canavan really carried them.
