Peter Lorimer, Leeds Utd legend. RIP

Desperately sorry to hear this. A key part of the great side that Revie built at Leeds. So many fond memories of him in the white of Leeds and playing brilliantly for Scotland at the 74 World Cup, when they exited at the group stage despite being undefeated.

Peter made a brief comeback for Leeds in the mid eighties and I was lucky to see him strut his stuff, and indeed score a goal, on the opening day of the 1985/86 football season, when Leeds fell 3-1 at Craven Cottage. He was 37 / 38 and was the best player on the pitch.

May He Rest In Peace.

Lorimer's disallowed goal in the 1975 European Cup final was scandalous

Leeds would have been 1-0 up half way through the second half and probably would have won

My oul' fella was at that match supporting Leeds

The only time a German team beat an English team in a European Cup final and they probably shouldn't have done

Thank you, although ironically mentioning it can get the anger up in me again. There was Lorimer's volley and of course Beckanbeur's (sp?) trip on Clarke in the penalty area!! Robbed!!   >:(

Scored one of greatest goals ever for Bolton in late Seventies, always an entertainer and real party animal. Missed out on dream move to Liverpool after failing two medicals due to 'high blood pressure'. Rumour was it was due to cocaine in his system.

And another ex Leeds players, albeit his presence was only fleeting. I said to Billys Boots elsewhere that he was a real maverick / flair player at a time when these players were getting little protection from hard as nails defenders, on pitches that were muck heaps, although he was not alone in that regard - when I think of Worthington, I think also of his tag team partner Keith Weller at Leicester, Alan Hudson, Tony Currie, Vince Hilaire, Rodney Marsh, Bob Hatton, Stan Bowles and many others. Gave me many hours of entertainment via Match of the Day and the Big Match. Rest in Peace.

Larry McMurtry died last week, Lonesome dove, Brokeback mountain, hud, The Last picture Show and Terms of Endearment based on his writings. His first novel Horseman Pass By (Hud) written in 1961 a novel way before its time dealing with race, sexuality and family relationships was way before its time both in content and the explicit way in which these were expressed. My favourite author.
