Former Kerry star Maurice Fitzgerald has been released from hospital after being knocked unconscious during Sunday's county football final.

The gifted forward was knocked out in a freak collision with his South Kerry team captain Paul O'Connor during their one-point victory over Dr Croke's.

"It was a pure accident," O'Connor said.

"And to make it worse I came to the game with Maurice, and he was giving me advice all the way up from Cahirciveen on how to concentrate on my own game and enjoy the occasion. Then what happens as thanks – I knock him out cold!"

So it was O'Connor that he collided with, not Denis O'Dwyer. I was worried there, I though a family feud was brewing
